Will OD be in the D and D campaign I don’t think Matt has mentioned him before but he seems great and I would love to see him in it. Anna and Toms too.
It's gonna be 360p for a while while the video processes. I don't expect this video to do very well, as I sense all the folks out there who want more Running the Game, some folks are waiting for the D&D campaign, some folks are jonesing for more Campaign Diaries, but this is a huge milestone for us. Think about everything that had to happen to get this video up. We needed an office, a truss, lights, cameras, microphones, the hardware and software to record and mix it all and the furniture for the set. I don't imagine watching us play Codenames for an hour is going to be *very* entertaining, but I'm incredibly proud of this video. This is the first multicamera video I've ever edited and it went pretty well AND I learned a lot! Everything else will happen; weekly RtG, the Campaign, everything's happening. But we're gonna make more videos like this, more and different games, How To Play, all sorts of stuff. This is just the beginning....
It's a 4k video. Right now, it's viewable at 1080p and you can clearly see the words unless you're on mobile. If you're watching on a phone...probably no solution will fix that.
It looks fantastic so far Matt! I know it's just a test but this bodes extremely well for the future and is starting to build proper hype for the campaign :)
I know you expressed worry about viewers not wanting to watch people play tabletop/board games, but not only do I watch a channel that does just that as part of the Live content (LoadingReadyRun), I also really enjoy this sort of stuff for precisely the fun back and forth which is presented by friends playing games together and enjoying one another's company. I think it would very much fit with the sort of aesthetic you are trying to create with "making the viewer feel as though their at the table" and I think it is a great form of content that can fill in those slots when RPG campaigns or oneshots are not available to be streamed (since they do typically take a significant larger amount of setup, due to needing a Game Master who can prep a game).
I watch LRR too, I love AFK as it gives me something to put on for a few hours while I mess about in Eve Online on the other monitor or sit in bed. (HEROQUEST!!!!)
Does Matt not know what a palm reader is? Like, someone who reads palms? I was *dying* during some of these clues. Bit tip of the hat to the clue givers, with their completely stoic faces!
The audio is great and the cameras on your lovely faces are awesome! The actual codename cards are hard to read but I understand you were just trying to get them all in one shot. This is a really cool setup. I've been watching your videos for a little over a year now and it's very exciting to see all this come together!
Matt, edits in videos like this make them a JOY! to watch. The solid snake sounds every now and again *Italian finger kiss* wouldn't ask nessaserilly for more just to please keep it up (more is always welcome I love edited videos)
I know you're posting this for feedback, so here's mine: I wasn't sure about the bookshelf idea when originally pitched, but now I love it. I love seeing Axis and Allies, the Green Power Ranger helmet, Zelda figures, and whatnot. It makes the place feel lived-in, like you're actually friends and you're actually having fun. Having that one camera hanging out in Tom's view actually makes it a bit charming in my opinion. It looks like this thing is effortless, and it makes me forget that it's a produced show. And I've worked in radio and stage crew; I know about production.
One of my favorite moments: "Each card is a part of this game"! I was laughing so hard the whole video. Phenomenal job Matt, and I am looking forward to the amazing content you guys are providing just by being yourselves. Ninja edit: I also would love to see your group play Twilight Imperium!
I just bought TI4 2 weeks ago, finally got players and we are going to play it for the first time this weekend. Would be really cool to see these guys play it as well.
And I am not one of those people who say "You must do the thing!" (despite my previous comment lol) but if you could find the players to play Diplomacy, with secret meetings that are recorded... I have to imagine that would be a major hit. Well I would watch it, no one else might.
Oooo play webdiplomacy.net/ with the 12-24 hour turns. And you could record the secret meetings on phones. Then after the game edit it all together. Would be a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG project but could be good. Shut up and sit down/Cool Ghosts did a similar thing for Subterfuge ua-cam.com/video/Fsvuv_kJ9qQ/v-deo.html and that was great (well I thought so).
Well... the D&D campaign is going to have a diplomacy game happening that will impact the state of the city. Matt said the city will be setup for takeover and there will be diplomacy players will be determining the the moves of the guilds (and maybe other political powers). So it will be interesting to see how that impacts the political aspects of Matt's game.
I've been watching for about 30 seconds and I have a serious question. Is O.D. a real person or just a figment of everyone's collective imagination of a British voice????
This is such a great spectator game. Its so much fun watching the faces of the spymaster when their teammates start overthinking and somehow start seriously considering the assassin. The barely restrained panic, while the other spymaster is fighting to hide a grin. Its great stuff.
Please do more of these! This was super fun to watch and curse that cliffhanger! As someone that doesn't really watch streams on twitch getting these uploads to youtube is great.
I like the "Hollywood Squares" individual layout in general. Hopefully, it doesn't obscure which players are side-talking to each other, but I think that should be apparent in game. The sound levels are even and clean for everyone without over-gain blowing out the consonants, and we can understand multiple speakers simultaneously without it going muddy. There seems to be some stereo lateral bias per channel based on sitting position, which helps track individual voices, so good there. It's showing available in full HD range, but at 480p each player is still clear enough to look real. I'd say it's ready to go live with a game session.
I started watching your channel for running the game, then discovered the DnD sessions, then saw your movie discussions and then your 4 hr Dune sessions. now I am a matt colville addict. You are the Avatar of the God of Entertainment.
I honestly really enjoyed this (despite never having played/watched people play code names before). You had a good group dynamic with good banter, and the setup was pretty good. I can't wait to see how you progress!
This was the greatest! I love codenames, so to see other group dynamics is amazing! Also, great to see how other people think. I would def watch more codenames and other games in the future.
That was cool! It was a lot of fun listening to you guys and trying to figure out the clues with you AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT RING WASN'T IT AT THE END BECAUSE FIGHTING/WRESTLING RINGS. I'd love to see more of this kind of stuff! Thanks for posting :)
I think Last Game Wins would make a great ongoing series. The length of the video is great for these kinds of board games and social games. The set looks good and the people playing are all having fun hanging out with each other. I feel like I'm in the living room with a bunch of friends. This makes me pumped even more for the D&D game.
Love the visual setup. You were very successful in your goal of making it so that when players look at other players they are also looking toward their video box on screen. Keep up the good work
I love that I just played this game with my own friends a couple weeks ago. Matt, you've grown your own community of fans who enjoy your passions and young new gameplayers like myself who look to you and other community leaders for their wealth of experience. I'm glad I've been able to see this amazing community grow and God damn, you were so close to winning the 3rd game.
Oh man! I loved this so much! Matt I took one look at the cards on your turn and said out loud "migrate" and walked away. I just about fell over when you said migrate about 15 seconds later!
I like, that there is a recording of this session (on Twitch all but one are gone) but i would appreciate the uncut-version even more. All the thinking and all the banter are part of games like this.
Wow. That's a really slick format Matt! Your guys' hard work definitely shows. Every aspect looks/sounds/feels professional (which, I guess you are, so... haha) Great job!
Looks AWESOME Matt et Co.! The lighting and filters are great. The layout of the cameras on the screen (did that make sense?) is well done as well. Can't wait for the stream!
I was only planning on watching 10-15 minutes of this, but the new rounds kept coming and I couldn't pull myself away :D I'd absolutely love to try this game now!
I'm impressed at how disciplined they are when they're spymasters. When I played this, the spymasters could not be quiet or stop laughing at all the crazy things people say to psyche the other team out.
Oh god yes, this is the fix i need after Wil Wheaton's Tabletop ended. PLEASE upload more random tabletop games with your friends. I don't need an explanation or a lot of editing, I can google the rules, I just love seeing you play with your friends!
Hey Matt, I'm really glad it's all coming together! Don't worry about doing your own thing, I'm sure a substantial portion of the ks backers are happy to see your projects all coming together. Side note, the quality is great. Cameras lighting and audio are all great!
Wes' comment about O.D.'s attempts to break down what 'football 4' meant - "why don't you follow that train of thought and see where it goes" had me lmao
I loved the tabletop games with Will! Really happy to have something that seems as funny and cool as that! Make sure to surprise us with more great content Matt!
And suddenly I've spent an hour watching some people on the internet play Codenames. But it was very enjoyable. Keep up the good work Matt and MCDM! :D
This is fantastic. Definitely want to see more D&D stuff but I love board games too. I encourage you to make this a regular thing, and maybe do something like the old Tabletop show on G&S where you give a quick explanation of the rules beforehand.
I think you have little to worry about from this community in terms of not giving us the exact content we're looking for yet. For one thing, a good chunk of people are going to enjoy these things since they have similar interests to you. Those that don't still understand that this is a process, and you have given plenty of updates to instill confidence that things are moving forward. We are behind you! The anticipation continues to build in the best possible way.
OD is who you hope to play codenames with.
Some code-ees with OD!
Will OD be in the D and D campaign I don’t think Matt has mentioned him before but he seems great and I would love to see him in it. Anna and Toms too.
Tom was preety good. The psychic one.
No, he's who you wanna play AGAINST. In my team I'd want one of the guys who can actually keep their mouths shut at the right time. LoL
It's gonna be 360p for a while while the video processes.
I don't expect this video to do very well, as I sense all the folks out there who want more Running the Game, some folks are waiting for the D&D campaign, some folks are jonesing for more Campaign Diaries, but this is a huge milestone for us.

This is just the beginning....
You've come a long way! Everything is coming together :)
The execution is really good! I hope my comment about the readability of the video only encourages you to make more Codenames content :P
This is really cool. We play this game all the time too. I can't wait until the rest of the P's kick in!
At first I was like "but... I dont know this game! What are the rules ?" And after 5 min I got it.
That's the sign of a pretty good game.
Anna legit has the world's greatest passive face of all time. I would dread playing any sort of bluffing game against her.
Matt’s face when they are debating over the clue for football being hand is priceless
even better when OD says Germany and Matt just deadpan stares at the camera.
"Stone"
Matt instantly thinks of Firestone and throws out the "Stones can catch fire" line as the sickest misdirect literally ever
I love watching O.D. die inside when Tom immediately gets the "reader" four and then Matt and Tom proceed to talk themselves out of it.
Yeah, that read was incredible! I wish anybody in our group could make associations this fast.
Does Matt not know what a palm reader is? Like, someone who reads palms? I was *dying* during some of these clues. Bit tip of the hat to the clue givers, with their completely stoic faces!
That reader 4 was absolutely amazing.
I loved how Matt had to just turn away after giving his “migrate” clue. The frustration at the amount of overthinking was palpable.
28:00 That dead stare Matt gives when O.D. names the previous Mens World Cup winner after he failed at the Futbol question is amazing.
The audio is great and the cameras on your lovely faces are awesome! The actual codename cards are hard to read but I understand you were just trying to get them all in one shot. This is a really cool setup. I've been watching your videos for a little over a year now and it's very exciting to see all this come together!
Exciting! I love codenames.
I also cannot see the codenames.
"We can't do worse than last game" he says while actively debating hitting the card that holds the assassin
Matt, edits in videos like this make them a JOY! to watch. The solid snake sounds every now and again *Italian finger kiss* wouldn't ask nessaserilly for more just to please keep it up (more is always welcome I love edited videos)
I feel like I'm watching 8 out of 10 cats does codenames.
I know you're posting this for feedback, so here's mine:

Totally support the idea of TI4 video :D!
I just bought TI4 2 weeks ago, finally got players and we are going to play it for the first time this weekend. Would be really cool to see these guys play it as well.
well they played Dune. it's as close as damnit.
And I am not one of those people who say "You must do the thing!" (despite my previous comment lol) but if you could find the players to play Diplomacy, with secret meetings that are recorded... I have to imagine that would be a major hit. Well I would watch it, no one else might.

I've been watching for about 30 seconds and I have a serious question. Is O.D. a real person or just a figment of everyone's collective imagination of a British voice????
I'm pretty sure its racist. I am triggered.
I love this Matt.
Matt at the 23 minute, the face of resignation. All is the void. There is only nothing.
This is such a great spectator game. Its so much fun watching the faces of the spymaster when their teammates start overthinking and somehow start seriously considering the assassin. The barely restrained panic, while the other spymaster is fighting to hide a grin. Its great stuff.

After the first couple games I immediately bought a copy. This'll be a great addition to our collection, thanks Matt & co!
That's how light gets in Tom!
This was a blast to watch! Great balance here of personalities. So happy you're streaming!
I bought this game to play as one of my families Christmas games because of these videos. I love watching this group play
I think Last Game Wins would make a great ongoing series. The length of the video is great for these kinds of board games and social games. The set looks good and the people playing are all having fun hanging out with each other. I feel like I'm in the living room with a bunch of friends. This makes me pumped even more for the D&D game.
I love it! I can't wait for everything to be final so we can see this content regularly. Keep up the awesome work guys!
Love the visual setup. You were very successful in your goal of making it so that when players look at other players they are also looking toward their video box on screen. Keep up the good work
As a board game nerd I would love to see more content like this in the future. Loved this video!
Know you've been busy, but have been missing your videos, glad to see your shining face ;-)
This is one of the most entertaining videos on your channel Matt! I love it! More of these :D
I love that I just played this game with my own friends a couple weeks ago. Matt, you've grown your own community of fans who enjoy your passions and young new gameplayers like myself who look to you and other community leaders for their wealth of experience. Audio video looks great! I think this setup is so much better than every D&D stream will have.
I loved this! I love playing Codenames but I just realized that it's a different (and almost equally) kind of fun to watch it!
I like, that there is a recording of this session (on Twitch all but one are gone) but i would appreciate the uncut-version even more. All the thinking and all the banter are part of games like this.
I just bought this game after watching you play. This was an unexpected treat, thanks Matt et al
In every round, Wes suggested the Assassin tile to enemy team at some point.
Setup looks and sounds DMs great! As someone who works in the field, you guys did a great job on the setup!
Really fun to watch you guys play this. So suspenseful! Definitely gonna have to play this game sometime.
Where did you guys find Austin Powers to play with! This is great XD
Oh god yes, this is the fix i need after Wil Wheaton's Tabletop ended. PLEASE upload more random tabletop games with your friends. I don't need an explanation or a lot of editing, I can google the rules, I just love seeing you play with your friends!
I never thought a game of Codenames would be this dramatic. I had no idea who to cheer for; I think that made it even better
That was great, I've never heard of codenames before but I enjoyed watching you guys have fun and play whilst also working out the rules!
Hey Matt, I'm really glad it's all coming together! Don't worry about doing your own thing, I'm sure a substantial portion of the ks backers are happy to see your projects all coming together.
Side note, the quality is great. Cameras lighting and audio are all great!
OD has such a great personality for this setting. The 1080p60 looks amazing. I cannot wait until these videos come out on a regular basis!
I'm so happy I backed your project Matt! Everything looks Amazing!
O.D is such a great character, hope to see him some more!
The look on Matt's face when OD mentions "Russia" of feeling exactly now what Tom was feeling last game is fucking priceless
Fun stuff matt :) Of course, im still excited for your d&d videos to start rolling out!
This was dope, great proof of concept. I can't wait to see more, Matt!
This makes me super excited for more streams, great job MCDM team
I love watching people play this game.
Extra points for the Princess Bride refrence. 11/10
Antarctica the top of the world, had me rolling
maradona, the hand of god, the eclipse, berzerk. ALL is connected.
argentinian here
OMG Matt liked what i post i am the king of the world
Wes' comment about O.D.'s attempts to break down what 'football 4' meant - "why don't you follow that train of thought and see where it goes" had me lmao
I loved the tabletop games with Will! Really happy to have something that seems as funny and cool as that! Make sure to surprise us with more great content Matt!
Holy crap, this was much more fun to watch than I expected.
This is one of my favourite games to play with friends and I’m so glad that every group has at least one person who plays like O.D.
Fun video, easy to follow, and good quality with a nice setup! Looking forward to more!
My brother introduced me to this game a little over a month ago, so I really enjoyed watching this. Looking forward to more amazing games.
great show guys, if the D&D stream looks anything like this you're gonna knock it out of the park.
I can't believe they got pound OMG
And suddenly I've spent an hour watching some people on the internet play Codenames. But it was very enjoyable. Keep up the good work Matt and MCDM! :D
This is fantastic. Definitely want to see more D&D stuff but I love board games too. I encourage you to make this a regular thing, and maybe do something like the old Tabletop show on G&S where you give a quick explanation of the rules beforehand.
This game looks amazing, keep these videos coming Matt
Looks and sounds great, Matt and crew!
Great quality for the first time.
Would love to see a full video about your setup and workflow one day
This was awesome!
You just sold at least one copy of codenames. 😁
definately try it out. it's super fun.
Awesome! The camera rig/editing looks great. I would be very open to more videos of tabletop games on top of the D&D campaign!
I really like the chemistry between you! Pretty set too
I am in! I am so IN! I've been a long time follower and I feel your pride. Can't wait to have your upcoming book in my hands.
"You don't actually make batteries out of copper" i'm dying bc it's the first way i've learned you make batteries in chem
Matts reaction to pound was stunning.
Watching Matt blank stare for a while is a movie on its own.
This was actually pretty good. Liked it.
Anna is my new favorite just because of the Gwar clue. \m/ If only my friends would get my metal references when I play codenames. :P
i was entertained all the way through, red team was amazing.
This was really fun to watch!
I immediately went for "log" when the clue was "hole", old Army marching cadence "There's a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea".
Today is a tabletop day! first Matty-C and then some of liams oneshot! Fantastic
The layout looks great Matt!
I missed this! It looks great!
Enjoyed this :) Looks good, Sound is good & clear... More than happy to see more games, just put some more stuff in the bookcase...
Looking and sounding great! Can't wait for more content to pop up.
Anna is such a cutie, her smile brings joy to my life. Can't wait for the D&D content to start.
This game may have just fallen into my Amazon cart. I thank you sir!
