Another fun fact for you is that none of the drivers wore seatbelts, this was because in a crash it was better to be thrown from the car to avoid being burnt alive if the fuel tank ruptured and caught fire which they regularly did. It was common back then to be racing at full speed whilst a driver was dead by the side of the road either in a ditch somewhere, or if they hadn't been thrown from the car, cooking alive like a roast pig. Another funeral for another driver and then straight back to racing again with possibly another funeral before the weeks end.
okay not to be like "Sully knows nothing about F1" but he's wrong on two counts. this is just the motorsport nerd in me coming out Firstly, from 1950 to 1959 15 drivers unfortunately lost their lives in F1 events, out of dozens and dozens, so it was definitely not a third. Fortunately F1 has been a much less lethally dangerous sport since the 80s (though we still have lost too many drivers) Secondly, he could be correct in suggesting that the cars on the box are from the 50s but really it looks to me like a Lotus 33 or Lotus 49, both of which are cars from the mid to late 60s. If I'm not mistaken anyway, the livery depicted wasn't used until the Lotus 25 of 1962.
@@saoirsefitzpatrick1123Wouldn't the number go up if you included deaths in testing between events? Still not as high as Sully suggested, but an increase all the same.
In a less-fun fact about Formula 1 and death, the number of deaths was frequent enough that the 1970 F1 champion Jochen RIndt couldn't accept his champions' trophy because he'd died four races before the end of the season, becoming the sport's so far only posthumous world champion.

Yeah a few little sequencing errors, I think there was a bit where Laurie could have put a heat back in his engine with cool down in step 5 before the slipstream which would have given him enough heat to then spend to get around the corner... As an OG Adam fan from the Whatculture days, seeing his personal project grow to such an extent that freaking SMOSH shouted out his channel, it’s kinda heartwarming
At 32:15 there is a rules mistake. On top of losing all the heat and shifting down to first gear, Laurie should have gotten two additional stress cards from the pile directly into his hand, since he was in fourth gear.
Maybe I'm mistaken but weren't they getting the boost slightly wrong? It looked like they were playing an extra card from hand instead of drawing from top of deck. Drawing blind makes boosting far riskier as it functions like stress.
24:28 This seems to be a misinterpretation of the boosting rule unless I missed when Holly flipped a fifth card from the top of the deck. Boosting is done during step 5 React after moving your car but before deciding to slipstream and works the same as a stress card in that you reveal cards from the top of your deck until you get one with the speed symbol.
I paused the video there b/c I was confused on what was happening since I didn't see anything mentioned in the comments lol. But yea it's play 4 cards in 4th gear, then boost in step 5.
Rules mistake? At 25:45, Holly played 5 cards by paying a heat. That's not how that works. The plus sign on the player mat means you can boost, meaning you can basically "play" a stress and flip over a card from your deck to move forward. I don't think you can ever play more than 4 cards in a turn.
See, this is what I mean. I wish them all the success that results in them being able to get their own studio, but I also miss the Tower of Destiny being literally within arms length to determine who goes first
Just a game note, not sure if everyone forgot boosts were there, but they are your friend especially on that long straightaway. Also, Holly's five-Heat cost play on that turn was very smart. On the USA track, it's the difference between winning and losing to get around that before everyone else if you have the Heat to do it.
Every time Sullivan has his hands on the table edge, it makes me think of John Cleese as the Frenchman in the castle in Monty Python and the Holy Grail 😆
This is by far my favorite game of 2023. I'm happy you all can experience it. I haven't watched the episode yet. I'm about to right now, but I hope you all play this again with all the bells and whistles to optimize your car, the championship mode, and the OP Legends mode. This game is fantastic. For every level of gamer, you can go as easy as you want, or you can go as advance and have a great time.
My friend has this game, it's amazing. He also bought micro-machine sized Mario Kart figures, and uses those instead of the tiny little cars, so Blaire's Toad impressions were spot on for my experience with this game. EDIT: Also, one of my favorite games of this year on the docket for next week!? HECK YES!
A little tip. You pay heat for violating corners last in your turn AFTER you get your cooldown. So you can manage your heat even closer to the limit. Great show!
Nice play through. It's important to not prompt the slipstream step before following the prompts preceding it. Follow the dashboard steps in order or it may affect your total advancement and position. This is especially crucial if you were to pay in advance mode with all the mods.
Great game! Lots of missed opportunities where Boosting would have been the right move. You can boost any turn. I think you might have missed that rule? Holly playing 5 cards at the end (and also at 20m 30s) is i guess how you interpreted it? It doesn't work that way - boost happens during the 'reaction' phase and doesn't involve playing a card from your hand: just draw from the deck. You can choose to boost every turn, it adds to your speed.
No Tower of Destiny? Also, some extra clarifications on the rules. You can pay one heat in any turn to boost and do the same action as with stress, high risk and high reward. Also when you spin out you get extra stress cards depeding on your gear. We love this game, we play it a lot in the our board game club events
Actually don't use this solely to decide because they botched several rules in playing this game. I strongly recommend watching the tutorial video from the channel "Watch It Played" to get an accurate understanding of the rules as well.
Best way to win isn't about avoiding heat, it's about gaining heat to speed through the corners and having a good system to remove said heat once it comes back into your hand....
I’m actually very interested in Ear Man, though I wanna rename him to Earshot. He’d probably be a student at the academy leaning to better his hearing through his hands, eventually actually being able to hear through walls and such with his hand-ears.
Maybe as his power develops, his ability could extend into being able to sense vibrations through his hands, making him able to detect people from a miles away, like how a snake feels vibrations. Maybe he can even master his skill to be able to project vibrations through his hands, like a sonic shock wave. Could use it to demolish builds, mess with sonar, predict the trajectory of flying objects or navigate in the dark like a bat. He could have a signature move called Sonic Clap, where he claps his hands together and creates a subsonic boom, that can disable foes, causing pain, nausea, and debilitation.
Thanks you to all of you for this playthrough! I love your videos. And I love Heat, even though I haven't played it myself yet and have just been watching lots of playthroughs of it.
A bit of a rules clarification, when you spin out you have to spend all of your heat. Also the stress you get from it goes TO YOUR HAND. Also boosting isn't putting an extra card, like stress it's drawing from the top of your deck(thats why its the same symbol) and whatever happens, happens.
Only a couple of minutes in, but this seems *very* similar to the old Formula D Board Game, I spent hours playing that with my family as a kid so this should be good!
I would say it has more in common with the racing game "Automobiles" from AEG than "Formula D/De", since "Heat" and "Automobiles" both draw from a random pool of either cards or cubes, while "Formula D/De" is a roll and move game.
Sully looks like his feathers have been ruffled, like he's in desperate need of a good night's sleep. Or a good week's sleep. Is he alright or does he just look like that normally and I've not noticed?
Loved the video BUT when you spin out you get the stress cards IN YOUR HAND not your discard. Plus, it wasn't touched upon much but you can use a "boost" action each turn to draw a card like stress actions to gain one more speed value
I haven't bought this game yet, but I've seen it played so many times that i almost know it as if i played it and I LOVE IT! It's probably one of the best board games I've seen around in years!
Great channel. I hadnt seen Fun Employment. Well worth it. I added blanks. Each person could add 5 jobs and 5 objects as well leading to some very spicy rude games.
Been looking forward to this one honestly. Please play Gloomhaven, would love to see you guys play just a part of it! Love the content you guys put out!
I remember watching Shut Up & Sit Down's video on this one and it really seems like a great design, and now I get to see it played by one of my other favorite board game channels! Hooray for board games!
i love the games where from the outside you're like _why_ and _how_ is that a board game (like this one, the Fast & Furious one or Sniper Elite) but that then end up being really entertaining!
That's a great game, seems really fun to play... or is it? It is, yes. also, spoilers vv Blair should have gone bunkers at that last corner, there was no benefit to waiting because two cars where already going all out next making it the last turn, being behind the corner just meant she couldn't win. Yes, there was a small chance they couldn't make all the way to the finish line, but she would still be at a disadvantage in that case.
As an auto racing fan, this game looks like so much fun to play! I'll have to pick up a copy of it for myself. Also, like Adam, I have a Mini Cooper, mine being a 2019 JCW and I love it. So much fun to drive.
It's return of the Goggles-Blair! Also, I must say watching this game in action played by you really gives me to urge to buy this game. Oof, I've resisted for so long ....
Another car racing game woo! Y'all should try Rallyman GT someday! It's a dice pool game system that is super accessible, yet surprisingly accurate to the concepts of actual car races! A favorite of my home game table!
A lot of people who plays this seems to miss the + icon next to their gear. Makes a massive difference as allows you to play a card like a stress card as part of the boost step. Holly actually did it at the end 😂😂
Holly wasn’t playing the React boost action correctly. She needed to flip cards from her deck until she drew a speed card. She played her 5th card out of her hand which is incorrect. Adam may have won if she hadn’t played this incorrectly. She states at the end. I may not have “put” that fifth card down. Time stamps @ 22:29 (places down) and 24:30 (states playing 5 cards) and 1:12:23. Rematch Adam??? Boost rule, “For each + symbol played you will add an unknown value between 1 and 4 to your Speed. This is done by flipping the top card of your draw deck, If it is a Basic card, add it to your Play Area, otherwise immediately put it in the discard pile and keep flipping until you find a Basic card.”

Been thinking about picking this up for time. I will use this video solely to decide.
Actually don't use this solely to decide because they botched several rules in playing this game. I strongly recommend watching the tutorial video from the channel "Watch It Played" to get an accurate understanding of the rules as well.
That introduction to the game was amazing. Well done.
Best way to win isn't about avoiding heat, it's about gaining heat to speed through the corners and having a good system to remove said heat once it comes back into your hand....
Yay, Heat is great. Would like to see Ra (works great at 5) or Mission Red Planet (works good at 6)
I’m actually very interested in Ear Man, though I wanna rename him to Earshot.
@@sunsoar1822 with the side effect of pain and tinnitus, of course.
Thanks you to all of you for this playthrough! I love your videos.
And I love Heat, even though I haven't played it myself yet and have just been watching lots of playthroughs of it.
Oh wow! I just started this, but watched a “watch it played” video for this a couple months back. Incredible coincidence
Yay! Thank you all!!! Just what I needed to get through this day!
So glad this channel popped up in my feed! New fav channel!
Only a couple of minutes in, but this seems *very* similar to the old Formula D Board Game, I spent hours playing that with my family as a kid so this should be good!
Def similar, just replaces dice with cards
I would say it has more in common with the racing game "Automobiles" from AEG than "Formula D/De", since "Heat" and "Automobiles" both draw from a random pool of either cards or cubes, while "Formula D/De" is a roll and move game.
It's even more similar to Flamme Rouge, designed by the same person.
I am sold on this board game and I am once again reminded this is the best channel ThEaLgoRiThM has shown me in years.
Sully looks like his feathers have been ruffled, like he's in desperate need of a good night's sleep. Or a good week's sleep. Is he alright or does he just look like that normally and I've not noticed?
@@arandombard1197 Ah, that explains it. He does look pretty rough, I can't blame him
MORE OF THIS GAME PLEASE, THIS WAS AWESOME
Loved the video BUT when you spin out you get the stress cards IN YOUR HAND not your discard. Plus, it wasn't touched upon much but you can use a "boost" action each turn to draw a card like stress actions to gain one more speed value
picked up a copy today, after friendly shop keeper pointed it out. I remembered watching this video ages ago!
I haven't bought this game yet, but I've seen it played so many times that i almost know it as if i played it and I LOVE IT! It's probably one of the best board games I've seen around in years!
I love seeing Blair she is the embodiment of Chaos
I was waiting for this all week❤
Laurie being Ferrari's best strategist so far this year
Great channel.
I seem to remember Gloomhaven having like 8 different resources and was a bitch and a half to learn. Unless I'm thinking of a different game.
I really love this game, please play more of this 🥺
Yessssssssssss!!!! Instant click to see this one!!! Been dying to see you guys try this.
That's definitely a game that I would love to see again, with more racers (they have the space now), and custom decks.
That's a great game, seems really fun to play... or is it? It is, yes.
also, spoilers vv
Blair should have gone bunkers at that last corner, there was no benefit to waiting because two cars where already going all out next making it the last turn, being behind the corner just meant she couldn't win. Yes, there was a small chance they couldn't make all the way to the finish line, but she would still be at a disadvantage in that case.
I absolutely love the confessionals like its a reality show lol😂😂
holly "i don't care if i win or lose" musgrave making an appearance at the end there
It's my birthday and you're playing a racing game!!! It's official I love you guys!!!
Perfect timing now Daniel Ricardo is back in F1💪🏼💪🏼
Finally was able to procure a copy of Heat a couple of days ago. Quite a bit of fun
As an auto racing fan, this game looks like so much fun to play! I'll have to pick up a copy of it for myself. Also, like Adam, I have a Mini Cooper, mine being a 2019 JCW and I love it. So much fun to drive.
Being a fellow Mini owner, I too was happy to hear that at least one of the NRB crew has some taste in cars.
It's return of the Goggles-Blair!
Also, I must say watching this game in action played by you really gives me to urge to buy this game. Oof, I've resisted for so long ....
Pirate opening, and Blairs laugh, hilarious.
I’ve been on the fence about getting this. It’s on my Wishlist for sure now.
I love that we can now see Adam's nervous legs under the table.
I had an Audi A2 from 2003. Slow car and it wobbled when the windscreen wiper was on! Loved it though. I still think they look cool.
Another car racing game woo! Y'all should try Rallyman GT someday! It's a dice pool game system that is super accessible, yet surprisingly accurate to the concepts of actual car races! A favorite of my home game table!
what a good an gracious winner, as always. get on board
Thats my evening entertainment right here. Thanks!
That ending was so intense... love it
43:36 OUCH! That silence though...everybody felt that for Holly😳
A lot of people who plays this seems to miss the + icon next to their gear. Makes a massive difference as allows you to play a card like a stress card as part of the boost step. Holly actually did it at the end 😂😂
played this at UK games expo, it was really fun
This…. Loads of people miss the boost action
This looks fantastic! And congrats to Holly - hard lines to Adam😉
I forgot this was a 2 lap game and started to get excited when they came up on the 2 corner
Wow this is giving me vibes of Table Top... Love it
Please, The White Castle soon! It's been so hyped!
