I know I'm a little late to show, but I just found this channel about a week ago. That being said, I've been watching Clay Hayes for a couple years out of pure enjoyment. I never really thought about making my own bow, since I'm a wheelie bow guy and got frustrated trying to get into traditional with too heavy of a recurve. But after finding this channel, your enthusiasm got me to start making my own. In fact, just started my 1st bow (maple board bow w/ mahogany handle) a couple days ago. My goal is to just have a lightweight longbow 35# that I can work on my form and get back to by recurve. I will be happy if it doesn't blow up in the 1st 6 months.
Dude. Thank you so much for what you do. Quick story. I watched your video on making a laminated board longbow by accident the other night just letting auto-pay do it's thing. The next day, i found a board lying in the road...a poplar board of all things. So, i picked it up, took it home and have started to make one as well. I'm actually at Lowe's now getting a 2x4 for my tillering board. Thanks man. I'm super stoked about making this bow, and am relying on your awesome videos and extensive knowledge to guide me along the way. I'm a recovering addict, and doing things like this keeps me occupied and busy. It's definitely therapeutic for me, and without you...I wouldn't be able to have this project. Thank you man. You have a much larger impact than you can possibly imagine.
"Go make a bow"... my enthusiasm to is only increasing. I love my bows, but I've never made one - now I want to, solely because of you and this channel. I love it!
You always say "Thank you!" at the end of every video, but truthfully, thank you! Your videos are fun and educational. My eldest daughter wanted to shoot bow after watching Brave. Man did I think I was in trouble. I'm pretty proficient with firearms and compound bows. But only in the boring tactical food gathering. You and your brilliant personality has helped me get closer to my daughter's hobby. You have made archery and making bows a truly fun experience for us. I wish you the best of hands and thank you for all you have done. We will continue to enjoy your videos.
Hey Kramer! This is the only channel I've EVER turned on notifications for, just because of your "Power Hour" :) these videos are so fun to watch even as someone who has never even held a bow. Seriously, some of my favorite content on the internet that I genuinely look forward to. Thanks so much for your positivity - I'm sure you're having an impact on people interested in making and shooting bows, but it's kinda neat you're also having a positive impact on other people too lol
Two of the people I watch the most, kramer for all the info when I facially decide to build a bow and icemanissac for my gaming tips. You guys are basically the same person just doing different things, it's weird but also very fucking wholesome
Thanks for reminding me it's Thursday. I genuinely forgot it was. Excellent vid, keep up the work, insert generic comment. Your channel, although not carpentry centred, still have me learning new wood working tips. I would literally make this just to make something. Love your vids
I probably said it before and will say it again. I shoot recurve, but I'd love to get a wooden bow later. And the more I watch your videos, the more I feel like making it myself.
Isn't it amazing when you finally get a bow that is close to desired poundage and doesn't break. I recently broke a long flat bow, but I wasn't patient. The next bow I took my time and it shoots nice.
Kramer! I 'm doing great! I just started my very first bow the other day because of you! I will be receiving my dragon fire and tillering strings tomorrow so that I can get beyond the floor tillering! I made my tillering stick before this video just by looking at your videos... we'll see how well it works this weekend!!! Blessings brother! Stay positive! I'm for you brother!!!
Hey, another great video. Shot my first bow for the first time last weekend and it shot pretty good. Your string worked great and it was a good shoot. This week has been finishing time. Cheers!
Great video!!! I began making my first board bow. And just received my tillering string from yall. Im super excite for this. Will be putting this to tree along with a tillering tree
Dude my hole tilling tree set up was based by your suggestions! Maybe someday I hope to do a video myself and show ya. Thank you for all the encouragement. Oh...ah.. I’m an older guy... I’ve never tweeted or instagrammed before. And honestly I’m just not that interested in much social media stuff. I know I’m the minority but if there is a way to be apart of without having to teach this old dog new tricks It would be much appreciated. If not, it’s totally ok. Just keep on doing your thing. I always look forward to your videos. Thank you
Another awesome video! Love the idea of using a stud or post in a basement. My girlfriend, little brother, and myself are all making our first bows ever following your instructional videos, and we are all super appreciative that you have put the time and energy into sharing your knowledge and skills! Thanks Kramer, you're the man!!!!
This one is a really good choice when you don't have much space for a tillering tree . And you can even replace the screws with titebond, makes it easier to build.
Kramer you’ve inspired me to try to build my own bow! I will upload my progress soon, please let me know what you think? Keep doing what you’re doing, love the videos. 👍
When you make that tailoring stick you can set the bottom of the tillering stick on a bathroom scale, then as you pull down to find a poundage of your bow your bathroom scale will tell you what the poundage is of the bowl. It is an easy way to measure the poundage on your bow.
I use a simple plank, with holes every 5cm (2''?) In those holes I inserted dowels. So I can use a rope to pull back from a distance, and hammer out a dowel to hook the string so I can get up close
Smart, had I been using my tree I wouldn't have been smacked in the face by a bow drawn out to 80# as a rough spot I missed while sanding chewed through all 18 strands.
I've recently trying to give bow-making another shot after a few years and your channel is helping me out immensely, the worst part tho seems to be finding the right wood, gonna try to make one just out of bamboo... Anyways, thanks for the awesome content dude, keep it up !!
Do you have any video on making small bows? Like toy-size. I have some small branches from some tree trimming in my garden, but the longest is maybe 3 foot, so I am thinking to make some toy boys that shoot pencils as gifts.
I shot an arrow for the first time a week ago and absolutely enjoyed it. Now I am excited to try my hand in building. What could possibly go wrong?!? Thank you for your guidance.
This video like all of your others is brimming with infectious enthusiasm This video is timely for me as I have just completed a bow blank ready for tillering. Incidentally, I am trying an experiment . I ripped the 3/4 x 1- 1/2 stave down to 1/2 thick.. I then saved the remaining 1/ 8 thick strip and cut a 16 inch and a 12 inch piece and feather sanded 2 inches on each end . I then cut the standard 3/4 x 1- 1/2 x 8 handle, and then laminated the 3 pieces onto the 1/2 inch thick stave. What may you ask did I get for all that work? I got a perfectly feathered fade from the 8 inch handle to the 1/2 inch thick stave. and uniform thickness limbs. It seemed to me that getting that fade correct and reducing the rest of both limbs to a uniform 1/2 inch thickness with a draw knife is one of the trickier tasks of the build. Ripping to 1/2 inch thickness ensures a uniform thickness for both limbs. I guess this could be called a semi laminated bow. The upcoming tillering process will either validate this experiment or prove the error of my ways. Keep up the great videos. Good video productions take a lot of work and you are really great at it. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Kramer, Jamie from South Aussie...Thanks for your videos and replying to my email, making a board bow from your instructions but it's damn cold here and has taken 5 days for the glue to dry on the backing...Just about to put nocks in for the string so I can measure string length and order a string off of your website... Keep up the good work... We have some great hardwood down here and wondering if there's a way I can send you some, maybe Jarrah or some Ironwood

I have seen both of those videos and I like the break down one. I would more than likely use one of your strings and add some felt like you have done. Keep up the awesome work!
I asked last time about using a bow from my power chair. I was wondering about shooting with the bow at a 45 to 90-degree angle to the more normal perpendicular to the ground shot. What problems will shooting like that induce? Is it harder to aim, does it cause problems for the arrow's flight, etc?
