Wow one hell of a job, im in the process of making my first bow and was at a standstill because of questions i had about the Tip overlay. You answered all of them in the first 2min 39 secounds lol. Love your videos. Seriously thank you so much for all the info and work you put in on these vids. Thanks again
Bro! Iv watched almost all of your videos. You deliver your content in a clear easy to follow manner. I had a compound as a child, but never stuck with me. I used a recurve a few years back of a buddies. Wow. Then to come accross your channel ohyeah. I tried the poplar wood bow with it to just snap at the beginning of tillering. Used a piece I had grain was bad. Picked up some oak so I have two in the glue up process. Thank keep the videos coming. Your channel is inspiring
Bull Whipz. Yes sir so true but all I can do is pray for them. It’s sad but they will unfortunately some day meat the truth. Take care my friend and GOD BLESS 🙏
Hey bro I’m loving ur channel, it has shown me so much of what steps I was missing everything from how to correctly tiller ur bow to actually making ur bow strings without a jig. Thank u so much for the knowledge .. me and my daughter now make bows together before I didn’t know how to bond with her but after watching ur show we now spend a lot of time together.. keep up the good work and thank u again . I can wait to purchase one of ur bows ... Danny. V
Im sure its been said already but table salt sprinkled over the pieces to be glued up, will keep everything from sliding around. And because wood glue is water based, the salt will dissolve and leave the joint as strong as it normally would be.
Man I'm loving channel 💯, I've been wanting to try making my own now for some time now and I'm very happy to have found your video's so I can better understand the actual process! I live in Arizona and have plenty of access to mesquite trees and would like to try to make one out of one of them, what's your thoughts on that?
Nice work, been bugging Brad if he knew if/when you would be selling bows or would make one for a guy. Been thinking about getting back into Trad archery! Congrats on the channel growth been here since the arrow pen!
@kramerammonsarchery I'm going to try this to repair the tip on an old bow. I have the wood working experience to do this. I only have one concern. The front of the bow has a fiberglass lamination, and it is made in 1950. My fear is that the fiberglass will delaminate once I remove a bit to get to the wood for gluing. Any thoughts? Your work is amazing
Thnx for the video. If you have a backing on the bow, would you put the tip overlay on top of that? Or sand it down to the wood at the tip before you put on the overlay block?
I made a bow (elm/glass) in September, after I broke it in October, sob, I post-mortemed it. The horn limb tips had been stuck on with Uhu superglue gel, holy crap batman that was stuck on well! My remake is shooting well but I've chickened out of using faster strings... For now
What's the difference between tip overlay. Or adding horn to the bow limb tips? You should try building a Mi'kmaq double bow. It's the bow preferred by the Mi'kmaq and Maliseet tribes. In the U.S it's referred to as the "penobscot double bow" Great way to lay down the marks to carve your string groves. I've been struggling with that little detail!
Nicely done my friend. Thanks for taking the time to share this with us and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Looking forward to seeing some of the bows you will be selling. Going to be an epic year my friend, Keep up the great work. dale
I'm really enjoying your channel. This video is great, I needed this one for sure. To help with gluing up laminates try sprinkling a small amount of salt between the glue covered surfaces, it really helps to stop the slipping and sliding effect between the layers.
By trade I am a woodworker I would suggest if want to do single overlays at a time just add alittle bit of table salt on the pieces after you glue and than add another. Salt dissipates and I would say you still maintain the same strength of the piece.. You do great work. just wrote but would like you to build a 3 piece bow "oak or ibe"/fiberglass/bamboo, really would love to see it.
a tip for gluing wood together so it doesn't slide. Add a little bit of salt on the salt, will prevent it from sliding. Also, that hoodie saw some stuff :)
I'm a wood carver just dipping my feet into bow making. The gorilla wood glue is almost same as titebond type 2. Titebond 3 is a little stronger and water resistant. But I have used the type 2 stuff for cutting boards with no issues with water.
I would never use acetone to clean any glue surface that was wood. If the MC is good blow it off and glue it. Composites will not retain acetone so clean it. It appeared you overlay was laid on grain oriented crossways instead of lengthwise ?
Hey there, new to your channel and I am really enjoying your videos! I have seen you score the wood a number of times before gluing pieces together, and have to say that it's not exactly best practice. I have done quite a bit of research and testing and have always found that a smooth surface will always hold a stronger glue bond than a scored one. I am sure you have had good luck with your current method, but just thought I would offer an alternative.
Then how come a lot of we'll known self bowyers put low stretch strings on their bows without tip overlays and have no problems. You need to do some more homework.
Great tips,if I make another I will incorporate them thanks.

Thanks! I never account for the string movement when cutting out the string grove. Learn a new thing today : )

This is exactly what I was trying to figure out. Thank you!
Looks good well done sir take care my friend God bless.
Some atheist might attack you for mentioning God
Bull Whipz. Yes sir so true but all I can do is pray for them. It’s sad but they will unfortunately some day meat the truth. Take care my friend and GOD BLESS 🙏
Nice to see people crafting cool, useful stuff. Thank you, sir.
your a good guy! keep faith
Thanks for the tip! Lol
I am definitely going to make a big block then cut it down. Didn't even think of that. Way easier!!!

Again thanks mate . Your videos are so informative and helpful
Thanks for the instruction.

Well explained! Awesome content as always. Thanks
Thank you for the video
Awesome Kramer. Pleasure watching your videos.
How do you do tip overlays ad sinew backing?
Loved the video.
Thank you!

Nice job. You've come a long way with your builds. Keep it up

Do you have a video of how to start tillering to hit your target poundage.
Very nice
excellent!
Thnx for the video. If you have a backing on the bow, would you put the tip overlay on top of that? Or sand it down to the wood at the tip before you put on the overlay block?
Would you ever pin the block with something or only glue them?
Love watching your videos. By the way, have you ever thought of doing a snake skin bow backing? Thought that would be cool.
I made a bow (elm/glass) in September, after I broke it in October, sob, I post-mortemed it. The horn limb tips had been stuck on with Uhu superglue gel, holy crap batman that was stuck on well! My remake is shooting well but I've chickened out of using faster strings... For now
Question:? Can you overlay limbs, to increase the poundage or reinforce limbs with cracks??
Damn I wished I would have seen this video before trying to put the tips on. Ugh now I feel like I should redo it
Krammer do you think minerals like jet or quartz or something like obsidian would work as tip overlays?

Hey dude, can i use Sinue?

Tip overlays add more speed?
I am probably jumping the gun here a tad, as I haven't looked at all your video's. Do you have video's on making fiberglass bows of limbs?
Awesome !!!!
Hey have you ever made a bow out of bamboo? I've tried with bad results but I really do not know how to make bows
Have you ever made a sami style bow?
What the wait time on your bows atm???
do tip overlays lose you arrow speed?
Say for a tip overlays what do you think about using deer hooves or shells if they are flat enough?
I prefer making the nocks a lot less low profile.
D97 is denema 97% but I like it on traditional bows with overlays

Why acetone over alcohol?

I've been using gorilla wood glue, does any1 have anything to say about that. Seems to work for me but I'd like some other opinions

That belt sander bite your knuckle
You touched your knuckle on the belt sander, didn't you? I hate it when I do that.
Really enjoyed your video, did you get my message I sent you. If not I’ll try again, need to talk to you. Your friend in Christ.
