Dude this is probably the first video I seen where they actually show you witch direction to turn the screw, so huge thumbs up for that👍👍👍 but I definitely wouldn't try this unless you have that special tool.
Julian No problem! I used to always watch Lil videos and hated that people just assumed you knew which way. As if the previous filter wasn’t already tight enough that it made even a mechanic second guess himself about which way was off 😂 glad it helped man and yes I recommend the special tool
all you have to do is check which direction the ratchet is turning lol. just hold it in your hand and if it’s latches when you turn it counter-clockwise, you’re good.
For the oil filter you do not need a tool take a flat screwdriver to the side of the filter make a hole with a hammer and you should be able to make a quarter turn and it would loosen up
That's a myth, in reality there's no such thing as a dry start unless you've just rebuilt the engine. Prefill your filter if it makes you feel better, but in reality it has no impact on the longevity of your motor, in fact by prefilling the filter you're giving your engine a big slug of unfiltered oil.
Excellent vid my bro!!! I never changed my oil before but i want to save some mon & know what oil is going in my motor! Im following your video for sure! from one follower of Christ to another keep the faith God Bless you brother!!
Thank you, just purchased a 2011 ltz tahoe same color with 109k miles. I subscribed to your channel! hopefully you keep uploading videos on regular maintenance of the tahoe! Cheers from Oklahoma
Appreciate the feedback and thanks for subscribing! Congrats on your purchase, these trucks are the BEST. We’ve had ours for about 3 yrs now and haven’t had any issues. Now we’re at 100k so I do have more maintenance videos in mind! 👍
@@S.0.G now just gotta take the filter back and exchange 🙄 special kind of stupid to give a girl the wrong filter with a PC in your face😳🤣 that’s okay. I know how to do it now 🌞 God Bless 🙏
Never over tighten the drain plug screw... It doesn't move from the car running. All you need is finger tight + ⅛ turn. Same goes for the oil filter! Finger tight, and then just a simple eighth turn until it starts to resist you.
How many miles (or months) is the "oil life" display calibrated to, and, can that be changed, say, if one is running full synthetic vs. std. 5W30? (5,000 miles vs. 3000 miles.)
Awesome Video! Just changed my oil for the first time the other day thanks to you . Question: where did you get that oil filter special tool??? Can you please share where you got it? Cant find it anywhere…. God Bless
I just changed the oil on my 2007 tahoe ltz an for some reason the dipstick is not showing the oil level I check an the truck has no oil leaks anywhere I put 7 quartz since I would stick the dipstick back in after 6 quartz an it wouldn't mark the oil level so I put 1 more quart for a total of 7 an still no level marks on the dipstick Can anyone let me know if you know whats going on what am I missing?
hello! On Thursday I changed the oil and the check engine light came on and the oil pressure went up to 80, sometimes it goes down and goes up again. what will it be? Could using my Tahoe like this affect the engine or something in the vehicle? Thank you so much BlessUp
I would love to know how much on dipstick you have to have oil my reads over 2 holes I got 4 holes on my Chevy Tahoe 2014 I'm guessing is supposed to be on 4 holes ? Thanks 😊😘
These take 6 quarts of oil. As far as the oil level on your dipstick could depend on the mileage and even the dipstick itself. Assuming you have 2 Tahoe’s, with the same dipstick... if you change the oil together, and one reads higher than the other later when you check, you could be burning or leaking oil somewhere! Have you noticed any leaks?
I Just bought a 2013 Tahoe LTZ 109,000 miles. The dealership told me they just got it. I took it and check oil was dirty. I want to do a engine flush, any suggestion?
Anytime I buy from dealer I always ask for carfax and R/O. Most people don’t know about the repair order but it’s a breakdown of the multipoint inspection they did and all the things they checked for. Usually peor inspecting it will write notes and you find a lot of things on there not describe to you by the salesman. I’d start by complaining to the dealer and asking for the RO
prostreetgsxr A lot of people do that and it’s a great idea. I personally haven’t found a true benefit behind it but with this vehicle it would’ve been too difficult to maneuver an oil filter full of oil by using a tool to install since I had a hard time twisting it on by hand because of the space.
God.Is.Love I have the same vehicle as you and I like to just fill it up with the oil and let it sit and let it soak in the paper and then I will fill it up not quite to the threads. I always install it by hand so being full of oil didn’t make it any more difficult to install. To each is own. I look at it like however many seconds it takes for that oil pump to fill that filter is how long your engine is starving for oil.
prostreetgsxr Hats off to you if you’re able to do it by hand idk why I had such a hard time finding the right angle to do it that way lol but yea absolutely I agree with that logic but it only takes seconds for the oil to feed all the way thru. By the time your done pouring oil and throwing things away and you’re back to turn the car on, it should be just fine.
God.Is.Love your oil filter will not fill up from sitting LOL! When you pour oil into the engine it goes straight to the oil pan it does not fill up the oil filter. The oil pump is what fills the filter when the oil gets circulating. Don’t worry about it though I am sure there are thousands of other people that do it the same way and don’t have any troubles.I am just picky about everything.
prostreetgsxr I use to think this as well until I was teaching someone to change oil and they poured oil into the engine without putting on the oil filter and everything came pouring out from there lol At that point I figured wow this travels fast and the car wasn’t even running. Assuming the same thing would happen with the oil filter on so that’s where my theory comes from lol but yes agreed, I’m particular about certain things myself so I get where you’re coming from!
6' 6 344 pounds.. It's safe to say I hate this guy lol.. I definitely hate logging out the ramps and putting them back up because I have steel ramps..As far as the oil filter location I hate that design design I use the K&N filter with the nut on the bottom.. But a good backup is to have an oil filter cap.
really helpful for someone who knows absolutely nothing about cars, you explained things really thoroughly. thanks :)

The vibration may weaken the filter housing over time
Always fill the filter with fresh oil as well before you put It on , so you won’t have a dry start!! 👍🏽👍🏽

I respect both of yalls way of changing the oil its like the tootsie roll pop the world may never know
I disagree. It isn’t that critical.
But technically, you are correct you should always fill your filter. But it doesn’t really matter.
You really don’t need to do that. Theres literally no benefits from doing that
It’s a wet sump, it’ll almost never start dry unless it’s at in incline for too long…

It’s a universal oil filter wrench and there’s only one size because it’s adjustable. It’s a nice tool to have around for sure
How come you don’t use 10w-30 if the truck is somewhat old already?

Hey! Might be a silly question but did you also change the oil filter? I know a dirty oil filter can be a cause for the oil pressure to spike up
So now I know babies sound like cats if you speed up the audio😆
😂
On some vehicles the oil filter is at an angle so it's not really possible to fill the filter half way.
This is why i hate working on chevys. But i will still work on them.
It's best to pure some oil in the filter so when you start it's get lube right away, engine will last longer.👍
Actually, it makes 0 difference to the longevity of the engine.

Yeah I can fit under there too, but I also need to do the brakes so a car jack is a must

Never use a tool of any kind to tighten the new oil filter hand tighten only or you'll have a hard time getting it off in 3K miles.
Definitely a good rule of thumb. The way they had this filter was tough to get my hands in there tho so the tool was a must!
I agree i could never get it tight enough with my hands with the placement of the oil filter
Because you had to use a tool to tighten oil filter, how far after being snug? Is 1/4 turn enough?
I'm a big guy. This was impossible for me to do on the ground without ramps.
