That C64 sound is the most distinctive of any system in gaming history. I didn't play most of these games, but hearing any of the soundtracks takes me straight back to when I was about 5 years old, playing Octoplex, Power Drift, Insector Hecti, Fast Food, Destruct, Commando, and Chuckie Egg 2.
Martin Galway is one of my favourites on SID. I used to load the games up just for the music. Parallax and Times of Lore title tunes my top 2 of all time. Times of Lore had an awesome solo at the end, which was different every replay. I don't know of any other game music that ever improvised a solo.
This is just everything :) When my dad brought home my c128D in 1990 it came with some disks, most with games - one filled with music demoes from Finnish Gold etc. My brother and I (he was 5, I was 9 at the time) would load them in over and over and sit endlessly just listening to them. It’s pretty busted now but on a good day it will still load, because yes, we are still geeks and we still play commodore games (on a real c64) and watch demoes to this day! But he also ripped it so it will never die! - on a side note I own The Great Giana Sisters on LP, game on one side/music on back! It loads and plays fine, I mean cassettes work so why wouldn’t a record? It’s on my UA-cam channel 😅)
I can't believe there were so many games I did not know! Great music! C-64 sound is so distinctive, and if well done, very impressive considering the hardware!
Thanks for the video! Musically a very good selection here. Before and after 17:40 I can hear some of the motifs from my first C64 game love, Mountie Mick's Deathride. Perhaps Ben Daglish has involved with Deathride's music as well..
Nice selection all round - and good to hear them from the real thing as always :) The tune you chose from Last Ninja II is actually The Streets (loader) - but the whole of that soundtrack is great. The title tune to Twin Tigers was first used in Scout by Mastertronic. And a challenge: see if you can spot the cover versions in this selection - there's a few..
Nice list. I thought I knew a lot of classic c64 tracks but this compilation contains a lot of music I'm not familiar with. Cool that you included Zamzara, one of the most underrated c64 games in my opinion.
Lots of good music here, no doubt of that! However, not many of my personal favorites made the list, if I made a Top 50 list I would probably include at least the following: Platoon (both intro + in-game), Cobra, Double Take, Mutants, Netherworld (intro), Druid (intro), Feud, Ace II, Wizardry (The Edge game, every tune in it is great), Beyond the Forbidden Forest (all monster tunes), Bionic Commando (all levels), Inside Outing, IK+, Tetris (Mirrorsoft version), Gauntlet (intro), Ghostbusters, OutRun, Rainbow Islands, Shockway Rider, Space Harrier, The Vikings (the music was ripped off from the movie The Labyrinth, though), Vixen, Terra Cresta, 3D Skramble (rip-off of Brian May's tune from Flash Gordon). But in case of C64, there's so much good stuff to choose from that it comes down to personal taste what people place at the top.
Nice collection Daz! No room for Street Fighter? Oh wait, it was converted by Tiertex..... Remember to humour the trolls if/when the comments arrive. No heated debates y'hear :o)
Cheers bud, yeah I know mate, that's the trouble with doing lists like this and why I tend to stay away from them because they'll always be those who complain that certain games were left out or my choices are garbage along with other selfish comments,...I got the same deal with my Amiga and ZX top game tune videos, I also remember those who gave me crap on my C64 Cracktro marathon saying I left certain cracktro's out,...I mean WTF?!,...it was 12hrs long for christ sake, what more can I do?! :-/
It's indeed a standard C64c as the music sounds much better coming from the 8580 but the tunes which contain digitized sounds are recorded from my C64 otherwise they'd sound too faint using the C64c.
The NES had more voices, but you couldn't really switch waveforms on the fly like you could with the SID, making the SID way more versatile. Not that there weren't any good tunes on the NES, but most of them were done by already established musicians such as Tim Follin
I am not a fan of 8 bit music EXCEPT für the SID chip. This baby has a indescribable quality to it other audio chips of the era could only dream of archiving. Of course this is subjective and someone else might feel differently (Wich is perfecrtly fine) but this is how i feel about old 8 bit (game)music.
Honestly man, no offense but that list of the "greatest" is piss poor. No Ocean loader? No Last Ninja 1? Traz, Wizball, Creatures 1/2? Each to their own but your list is poor considering the title. Jesus you'd be eaten alive by the r64 community back in the day :P
Ocean Loaders are NOT game music,...they are loaders!!!,...I have done an Ocean Loader video, as for poor?!,...only to your ears not mine, and I wouldn't of been eaten alive for this back in the day,...I was part of the community back then, you are not everyones spokesperson, you just have a different taste in c64 music, this is my video and is not dedicated to your taste of C64 tunes alone, so stop moaning and enjoy it otherwise move along, no offense taken ;-)
+retrovertigoes, apart from a couple of games I would have liked in this video I can say this is a great compilation, I'm 8th tune in and found myself whacking up the volume to the funkyness, so can't agree with your harsh-ish words I'm afraid, very good music compilation.
Jesus buddy relax, didn't mean any offense. I literally said no offense and to each to their own with regards to the music. I very plainly pointed out the title you made for the video with regards to "greatest". If you get your knickers in a twist over that then .. I dunno? Anyway enjoy your videos dude and regularly tuned into the streams.
retrovertigoes Ceratinly not, things can be read the wrong way when saying things so don't think I was being angry at you, as you said everyone likes different things, I get that, just enjoy is what I say :-D as said no offense taken :-) P.s, changed the title :-)
The C64 was my escape when the world just got to be too much, a digital dream land. This brings back fond memories of happiness.
Mine too. And my adolescent world was very often too much.
Same here
yea same Story here.
Mine was my 128k ZX, Target Renegade was just too irrisistable to ignore.
same.

Starting with Target, Renegade sets up the playlist so so well. Thanks for including some real hidden gems in here like Rolling Ronny!
Martin Galway is one of my favourites on SID. I used to load the games up just for the music. Parallax and Times of Lore title tunes my top 2 of all time. Times of Lore had an awesome solo at the end, which was different every replay. I don't know of any other game music that ever improvised a solo.
Very Interesting. I will investigate about that solo you are mentioning.
Awesome classic tunes from the beloved C64
Absolutely :-)
I listen to a lot of retro game music while I work so this is an amazing collection that will get more than a few play thrus I am sure!
That's cool, I hope you check out other stuff on this channel :-)
I've been a subscriber for years now. Shit Game Time is always good for a chuckle.

Lots of C64 games had great soundtracks, to think how much you could squeeze out of SID chip...
Yeah as said I was discovering beauty's during the creation of this video :-)
Kudos to this playlist for featuring more obscure but still awesome tunes! ♥
I can't believe there were so many games I did not know!
Great music! C-64 sound is so distinctive, and if well done, very impressive considering the hardware!
Thank you for the Upload.Hear 1 min in and allready Love it.Awsome job like allways :) Weekend is safe :D
Thank you very much!
Target renegade intro tune is the best.
Thanks for the video! Musically a very good selection here. Before and after 17:40 I can hear some of the motifs from my first C64 game love, Mountie Mick's Deathride. Perhaps Ben Daglish has involved with Deathride's music as well..
That Cybernoid II Track is a banger!!! :-)
Exactly what I was thinking
A pity Jeroen Tel has become insane and mentally incompetent as adult, the Savage tracks are just awesome.
Nice selection all round - and good to hear them from the real thing as always :)
The tune you chose from Last Ninja II is actually The Streets (loader) - but the whole of that soundtrack is great.
The title tune to Twin Tigers was first used in Scout by Mastertronic.

Simply the best sound chip. Thanks for the upload
No problem.
Commando was a stand out piece
Nice list. I thought I knew a lot of classic c64 tracks but this compilation contains a lot of music I'm not familiar with.
Cool that you included Zamzara, one of the most underrated c64 games in my opinion.
Thanks, be sure to check out the other game music videos on here.
this mix is so good!! thank you! long live the 64!!
No problem, glad you enjoyed the vid :-)
Great to see Thing on a spring again! 👍
The theme from Auf Weidersein Monty lives rent free in my head. I came here searching for what game it was from.
10:36 IS A BANGER!!
The Turrican intro sounds like it’s a C64 remix of the song Escape by Vince De Cola which is a part of the 1986 Transformers movie soundtrack! :)
8 bit music is still the best. at least when it comes to computer music.
so sad how time flies by...
BUt yOu LEFt mY fAvOuritE oUt SO lisT iS bAd. Great video thanks for uploading.
this is the Theme Song from Thundercats!!! oO 1:53:00
Feel the magic, hear ther roar, Bomb Jack's on the loose!
Ha ha, yeah it would appear the Bomb Jack 2 team "borrowed" some of the Thundercat's theme.
A very nice compilation, thanks for uploading. Childhood memories. I do miss Rastan and Fist II, but then tastes are different. Best wishes to you.
Many thanks, be sure to check out my retro game music playlist section on here 👍
Instead of just plugging your other uploads, you should apologize for not including rastan since he's so butthurt about it
The Zamzara title music by Charles Deenen is my favourite here but I would have added the in-game music from Eliminator by Jeroen Tel.
Lots of good music here, no doubt of that! However, not many of my personal favorites made the list, if I made a Top 50 list I would probably include at least the following:
Platoon (both intro + in-game), Cobra, Double Take, Mutants, Netherworld (intro), Druid (intro), Feud, Ace II, Wizardry (The Edge game, every tune in it is great), Beyond the Forbidden Forest (all monster tunes), Bionic Commando (all levels), Inside Outing, IK+, Tetris (Mirrorsoft version), Gauntlet (intro), Ghostbusters, OutRun, Rainbow Islands, Shockway Rider, Space Harrier, The Vikings (the music was ripped off from the movie The Labyrinth, though), Vixen, Terra Cresta, 3D Skramble (rip-off of Brian May's tune from Flash Gordon).
But in case of C64, there's so much good stuff to choose from that it comes down to personal taste what people place at the top.
Awesome vid Zeus! 💪
Cheers matey!
Not even human, the c64 is techno capable
Very nice dude. There are some games I never heard of... :-) Maybe I try them out...
Thanks very much, there's some great seuck game music out there too which I'll be putting up shortly.
Thanks for watching.
Sound of the dawn of my gaming years!
Check out the intro of "Saber Rider & the star sheriff's"
Ok.
Just Wow!!! 1:11:18
The intro of the Target Renegade theme (0:05 to 0:43)=Smalltown Boy
Best upload on UA-cam :)
Thank you.
@@ZEUSDAZ Hail the mighty SID chip :)
Thank you for the upload!
Last Ninja 3, Creatures 1-2, international karate music?
I REALLY LOVE MY C64 👍🥂🎩
Renegade loading screen music was the best
Nah that award goes to Rambo II loading screen.
Best game at 1:38:27 💪👍💪😎👊
Did I miss it ? , but I can't see Game over here? That had awesome music , bad collision detection though lol
Nope, you didn't miss it, a no show.
@@ZEUSDAZ poor game , cool music though 😄
Thanks for the game music.
Cool :-)
Thanks for this!
Just go to 1:59:04 - that is all you need 🙂

The US version of Street Fighter wasn't too bad actually, although that wasn't done by bloody Tiertex. LOL
love dat music! also space harrier?
One of the best conversions of the classic "Space Harrier" game track. ua-cam.com/video/5H0JX7ahaKQ/v-deo.html
Nice recordings! What is your setup? Perhaps C64-C with digiboosted 8580?
It's indeed a standard C64c as the music sounds much better coming from the 8580 but the tunes which contain digitized sounds are recorded from my C64 otherwise they'd sound too faint using the C64c.
2:58:23 - Driller!
#1 Tel.
And I thought the C64 couldnt do as much as the NES
I preferred the C64 over the nes
The NES had more voices, but you couldn't really switch waveforms on the fly like you could with the SID, making the SID way more versatile. Not that there weren't any good tunes on the NES, but most of them were done by already established musicians such as Tim Follin
greetings 😊
Why is Slayer so loud?
Dunno, they are all recorded on original C64c.
I don't see Duotris in the list, so it's a bad list.
v=InDmiKUpS3Q
Sheesh, there's always someone who complains 🙄
@@ZEUSDAZ Accept the light of Duotris into your heart.
@@AFistfulOf4K lol.
