Gotta disagree with his first assessment that a hail hit must be circular because hail is .. circular. Hail comes in lots of shapes and sizes and rarely is a plain circle. ⭕️ As far as the hits being smoothed out in the middle, I agree to a certain extent. If the roof is deteriorated to the point that you can wipe your finger and granules just come right off (a lot of granules) then I’d think a hail shot could very well clean out the middle really just depends on the angle and speed and shape of the hail. The best way to tell if hail is manufactured is to check the entire roof or slope and try to build a picture of the storm. It’s rare that hail comes in from all 4 sides so if you walk up to the ridge take a few steps down and see let’s say 8-10 hits in a general test square sized area on 4 different slopes yet there’s no hail anywhere else on the roof that’s a pretty damn good indicator the hail was manufactured by a desparate salesman. Just my two cents.

I've walked away from roofs like this where other roofers have "inspected" it before me. Also why i now video all inspections from stepping foot on the roof to stepping back on the ladder. Also i don't touch the hail impacts, just count. No chalk either. No need.

Tbh most reps won't ever get on a roof with a hammer. Could've been damage from original install dropping a hammer or something or manufacturer defect. Vandalism in florida is usually creased shingles by hand. I've caught sales reps I've hired doing it. I've seen adjusters yell me off roofs on real hail damage with collateral telling me to "crease shingles like everybody else so I can buy this roof" too.

To strengthen the argument for hail or for vandalism damage to the roof and adjuster could cite several factors. Any denting to soft metals or gutters if available? Any spatter marks on soiled surfaces or on the wood deck swing set or fence? Any history reports of hail in the area? Finally, hail ends up producing a randomly consistent pattern. Manufactured damage or vandalism will tend to be in a pattern and not evenly distributed across the exposure.

Another thing is insurance company’s make billions per year . I’m not renewing insurance it’s $1,900 that’s ridiculous! When a hurricane hit our area and we had roof damage and fence property damage it was outrageous what they did . They sent our mom a $300 dollar check it was a little more but they took the deductible out. I sent them a registered letter and they refused to answer so we filed a suit after that the guy they sent said they were sorry but their company was not in it for the profits and they barely increased the amount . It ended up costing them more . Now Allstate won’t even send anyone to check the house . What is it they say ? Your in good hands with Allstate ?

Vandalism is a covered loss. I've had roofers walked off a property in handcuffs because the neighbor filmed them damaging a roof. This works out in the insured's favor as they no longer have to pay their deductible and all deprecation becomes recoverable. In some cases the insurance company has a reward for reporting insurance fraud and so they get a brand new roof and a free year of insurance.

shingles are the easiest roofing materials for hail to damage. Slate, metal, concrete tiles, davinci, tpo, epdm, stone coated steel hold up a lot better, with metal being barely better when considering proper maintenance or replacing the screws every 7ish years.

I shingled the church I attend back in 2019. About 2 years later the area got small hail. A storm chaser stopped there and asked the maintenance man if he could inspect the roof. He spent about an hour up there, came down and said yes lots of hail damage. Once the pastor heard this he called me and asked me to come inspect the roof. The vandalism I saw was extremely obvious. This fraudulent storm chaser literally when up 4 ft made a mark then over 4ft made a mark. He did this across the entire roof. 125sq gable 2 pieces of roof. 5/12. It looked to me like he used a key and and just scratched off some granulars. It was unbelievably obvious. Insurance came out paid for the roof due to vandalism and the insurance also went after the fraudulent storm chaser which ended up being a salesman for a contractor. I never found out if anything became of that but I did get to do the roof again which was nice for me and for the church because this time I upgraded the shingles to a class 4 northgate so they could save on insurance premiums.

There was one where yeah, it would be good to replace, but if the impact is only 1 or 2 centimeters, then there is no problem.
