Its kinda neat to see so much high end equipment laid out and ready to work. Gear has come a long way in my 60 yrs of life. It was slow to change in the past and now it changes like Texas weather.

Love that old 18 now ships the rods for free. I know the cost just gets rolled into sale prices, but it is nice to not see a 200 dollar rod turn into 240 after shipping and tax.

I needed a new reel to pair with my new Old18 ultralight. I love my three Lews ProTi’s but couldn’t find one so I bought a Lews Custom Lite. I loaded 10# braid and was amazed how well it cast. Maybe because it is new, but it feels better than the more expensive Ti’s.
I love the Custom Lite over the Ti.

One year of wading with the lews in Mansfield was to much for the reel it’s locked up it was never duncked and one of the break arms broke off during a cast. But…… when it was working it worked amazing!
That’s a bummer, luckily mine are still firing on all cylinders 🤙.

What Lees spinning reel do you recommend for salt water wade and bank fishing and what size braid line. Thanks
So will you be using spinning gear this season and if so when will you prefer the casting versus spinning. this is something I’ve gone back-and-forth on so it would be interesting to hear your opinion!
Yes, for sure. Both types serve a purpose. Casting means power and accuracy. Spinning is for super tiny lures and high winds.

Question on the rods. Do you know what blanks are for each different rod?
The Aerius, I recall you saying it is a Batson Rainshadow but do you know if its an rx8, rx 7, immortal, or any other blank?

The Buoyancy is a different blank that’s made in the USA. It’s not a Batson like the discontinued Aerius.

I just received my 7'3" medium suppressor today, and noticed that the entire blank isn't clearcoated like many other rods are. Have you found this to make the rod more susceptible to damage?
Not at all. The clear coat just adds more weight. These rods are very strong.
Would you put a 101 Calcutta conquest on a light or UL Buoyancy ???
I used to fish exactly like that in the past. I switched to low profile reels because they were easier on the wrists.
Why is the mag Heavy Traverse 40lbs but the Extra Heavy is 100lbs?
Maybe the lews super duty and Traverse could get you a Tarpon.

I hope these rods do not break as easy as the aerius and suppressor. The tips of two aerius rods and one suppressor that I owned broke. I will give old 18 credit for replacing two of them. Hopefully the tips of these new ones aren’t as flimsy. Old 18 makes good rods but the tips of the old aerius and suppressor rods break easy if your not careful.
Sorry to hear that. I’ve been using them for years and never broke one. The Buoyancy is built on a new and better blank. 👍
