    hey devil!. So the sidekick works great as long as you don't mind the additional weight of about 35- 50 lbs if i remember correctly and replacing those tires with Trail Blazer wheels. I run that system on my 2020 slayer max and have never snagged the legs or wheels while casting standing up or sitting. The tires are bouyant and are aggravating to slip back on in choppy water and 10 mph winds when trying to pull out off the water. I run a boonedocks kit on my Van Hunks Shad. That landing gear system comes with the trailblazer wheels but you would need to tap and drill to create screw mounts for faster removal/deploy of the landing gear. DO NOT STORE THE KAYAK IN A WAY THAT CAUSES THE WEIGHT TO REST ON THE DEPLOYED LEGS OVER NIGHT. The plastic is only High Density Poly Propelene and is not reinforced. You may also want to wrap and zip tie black insulating pipe foam to the legs to make sure they don't sink if you forget to lock them into place. If you want a dry ride buy a 3D printer and print you some self bailing scupper plugs using ping pong balls and weed wacker twine. I voided my warranty by drilling 1/4" drain holes in my center console spalsh guard to allow water to drain out. I voided my propel drive warranty by filling it full of synthetic motor oil in order to completly silence the vibration to the drive system while peddling and decrease friction of the gears and drag on water to the blade. Prop continues to turn after i stop peddling. I bought a bixpy so i can fish in less then a foot of water and absolutely love it. hope this bit of intel works for you. Semper Fi

    I don’t lock down the drive with the third latch. I can pedal with no issues with it unlatched at the drive hole and it allows it to kick up if you hit anything.

      They're extremely similar made in the same facility with the same drive. Hows ypurs in the shallows?

    • @Alpha_Instinctz
      @Alpha_Instinctz 2 роки тому

      @@ETuss713 how shallow we talking about. I had my bumps with the kayak but that could of been lack of experience in a yak in the beginning. I do need to make upgrades in the steering and rotter. Turning is not great on a windy day. A smooth day its like butter. Does the job in the marsh once u learn ur kayak. Ez to move the pedal drive up when u hit the shallow. Love the pedal drive compare to some ive jumped on in the past. My top yaks of now budget wise are bonafides, oldtown and natives. I really wanted the bonafide cause my research led me there as a top budget kayak compare to hobie or a old town with minn kota. Just like any kayak it has pros and cons. Just depends what u want from a kayak

    Great review, Mark! That Bonafide model strongly seems to relate to my Watercraft Titan 13.5 kayak! I'll bet it was made by the same company. The seat mounting sliders on the deck track are identical, as well as the seat-deck bolt design. The rudder control system is EXACTLY the same as well. Thanks, Mark!!

    I'd like for you to run a pond pro angler 10 boat with a 6hp and trolling motor 12' under plastic boat since they are slightly better than a kayak in sense you can get them into anywhere fresh or salt albeit i would not put in open water bay per say . just tossing ideas man tiny boat just under the fancy skiff you ran. These plastic boats run under $900 very very stable and extremely flexible to modifications. Let me know what you think.

      Ive had to move back to small boat. When i was younger fished tournaments with a buddy i had a 18'9" champion V4 total bass fishing machine then my wife and kids came so i parked that beauty and bought a pond jumper called a bass buster 10' strapped a trolling motor to it and a little deck totally awesome machine no motor just trolling motor. To it everywhere quick tossed in back of truck no gas or motor issues etc. Just battery management. Then got hooked on yak fishing fast forward 15yrs knees bad so think im going back to pond jumper with little trailer.

    Looks like a super nice yak, I have heard good things about them. I've been kayak fishing going on 7 yrs now. I've always had a Hobie pa12. Last summer upgraded to PA12 360 which has instant reverse, sideways, any direction you wanna go. The manuverability on the 360 is awesome for sure. I know there's plenty other great pedal drive yaks out there, I just don't have any time on water with them myself. The bonafide looks nice for sure & u can't beat free if they gave it to u to try out! Do the prop drives make a humming sound? How do they do coming through grass, does it cut through them or get tangled up??

    That pedal drive is just like my two native watercraft pedal drives and sidekick. I usually leave my wheels in the truck if I have to use them but I have my kayak on a trailer too so I can back them into the water when possible

    I've been looking at pedal/foot drive kayaks that aren't Hobie. I had a Hobie Outback, it performed okay and I enjoyed taking it out, but, it always felt like it wanted to tip over and that was the main reason I sold it. It just didn't feel stable, especially when starting into a turn. I'm looking forward to your videos as you shake it out and put the Bonafide through its paces so I can see if it's what I'm looking for in a kayak. (Or I'll just design and build my own!)

    • @billhobson6637

      I have a P127 and I’m really enjoying it. What surprised me was the speed of this kayak - I can sustain over 3 mph easily. I did 11 miles last Friday and had plenty of energy left in my tank. BTW, I’m over 70! It Is super stable too. I fish lakes and creeks with lots of logs and branches, so I leave the clip that holds the pedal system down unlocked and the drive system can just flip up a bit if I fun into anything. The only negative I have so far is that because the floor is so low to accommodate the pedal system, it does get water in. So I occasionally pull out the scupper plugs to drain the water.

  • @freakfiveoh

    I too am curious to see how it compares to some of your other kayaks. I've got a SS127 now, and I've been eyeballing a pedal drive for a while, so I'm glad Bonafide made an option. I'm moving next month, so I'm waiting to see how often I take the kayak out before I invest in a more expensive boat.

  • @mond000

    Kayaks just aren't cost effective for big guys. You can get a used boat for the price of a kayak big enough to hold a 300 pound guy.

    You did a great job going over this kayak. I never realized that when you stop paddling this style drive that you cause drag.. really good info

  • @luischavez2595

    I had the native ultimate with that same peddle drive and I honestly was not fond of it. Seemed to me that a lot of effort was needed to create that forward momentum, and as soon as you stopped peddling it would lose all momentum. Also the second biggest reason I disliked that drive was that big opening it had to be placed through. If you’re not using the drive you have to cover that hole up or risk losing something through it. Sold that platform instantly. Just my observation and experience

  • @shainebingham9310
    @shainebingham9310 2 роки тому

    If I’m not mistaken from watching Chad Hover on giving a walk thru with Aliex on it. It comes with the paddle holders in the back. I’m mixed on this yak. Wife has the outback and SS127. After installing the rudder on the SS127. Made padding the yak better. This one, I feel it has way too many flaws. With the seat, how low the deck sits. Not having a junk drawer. The smaller tank well. The Side kicks will shrink it. We will see how it does for you, but I feel it’s going to be a miss. Still feel the SS127 is more premium than this. The 3k price is a miss on this. For what it offers. Hate to nick pick and be negative on this, but Ik you’ll give your honest opinion and on it. I hope I’m wrong. Great review as always Mark.
