Very interesting hearing that these work in saltwater as well. I live in Florida on the gulf coast. I fish primarily for bass (largemouth and peacock) and a lot of our canals/ponds are brackish and it can be hard to tell if the water is fresh or brackish. I’ve always been afraid to use my lews bass reels in brackish water, but this video makes me feel much better.
You have given more in 22 years of service than some Americans work or even put into the system. Thank you so much for your service, wish there were more citizens like you and maybe things would pull back together. Would like to see more on the Calcutta Conquest, plan on buying a 100HG myself soon...
I purchased 2 UL reels Black Friday. Love the smoothness of the cast, I usually trout fish, but this past Thursday I put them through the paces on some big reds. Not a glitch when ripping big stretches of drag! Really great reel, plus I got half off my rods when I purchased them!
Mark...thanks for the very well explained tutorial on the bait caster, my son fishes with the spin cast reels from Lew's and swears by them..I tell him not to swear so much, he loves them...we mostly fish the lower Laguna Madre ,Port Mansfield and south towards Port Isabel ...love both of you channels.
And you are doing a fine job I must say... You and JC @ Rad Reeling at the 2 major reasons I bought my 120 AutoPilot and I am having an absolute blast with it for the past 2 1/2 months. I'm on the water every week. I owe all the fun to you guys making it look easy... Thanks Sir and thanks for your service as well.
I found a Lews Laser MG like new for $40. Curious if it's worth it in Saltwater? I just put my deposit down for 2 Old Town Salty's PDL's & I'm just adding to my arsenal. I did buy a $100 Lews Speedspool LFS a while back & it's such a smooth reel & I can cast light bait or heavy way out there using PowerPro 20lb braid.
New to your channels, #1 thank you for your service. #2 Damn you're aging well. I'm 32 and you look my age. #3 Old 18 is awesome. Love my catshot rods.
Wow Mark. I can't believe how long they've lasted and haven't rusted out on you. I wonder if it's the no fresh water rinse policy you have that is the key? It would be interesting to see what it looks like inside if you just pulled the cover off! With as much fishing as we do, Lew's recommends regular "oil and lube" jobs on their baitcast reels to keep them in shape.
Bro, I was thinking in my head you better not start talking trash about Lew's LOL. Good video, caught 2 specs today on Lew's. P.S. yes it was very cold.
Had a question a bit unrelated. I saw a Lew's TLC4000 reel on your video clip in the begining part (1.15). I am reading that it's a freshwater reel. Can it be used for inshore saltwater? I am new to fishing in the gulf coast. Thanks
All of my reels are designed for freshwater except for one. As long as you don't dunk them you'll be fine. I've been doing this full time for five years and every reel is good.
Good video! This is the second time I heard you mention you back up you UL reels with mono, what’s the reasoning for that? To fill the spool half way and then add the light braid in top? If so, does that effect casting?
You can tie braid straight to the reel because Lews spools have holes (at least the Ti’s have them), but mono is cheaper. As long as you have more braid than your farthest cast the mono has no effect.

Happy I stumbled upon your channel. I'm down in Corpus, good to see another Texas fisherman on uTube 👍

Love the Lews reels they also make some great combo as well

Thanks for the review, I have been wanting one for inshore fishing but I was concerned about longevity.
Subscribed!
Would you recommend full fluoro on this set-up?
Got 4 of those pair with two Aerius, two Suppressors.
💪

How well does the Pro Ti hold up in salt ?
Curious why you never used/tried the Lew's saltwater baitcasters?
Good video! This is the second time I heard you mention you back up you UL reels with mono, what’s the reasoning for that? To fill the spool half way and then add the light braid in top? If so, does that effect casting?
I use electrical tape. I think it helps with the casting and braid from digging in.
You can tie braid straight to the reel because Lews spools have holes (at least the Ti’s have them), but mono is cheaper. As long as you have more braid than your farthest cast the mono has no effect.
Could I use 15 lb power pro slick 8?
How often do you change your line?
Once a season or when required.
Hey can you show how you back your line with mono?
I just use mono to take up some space on the spool then use a Uni to Uni knot to attach my braid.
how long is your leader of fluoro?
How much to get 1 of them rods?
Great vid. Curious to compare this to the Concept TX2. Sub’d your channel also.
Great vid but not for me i dont fish light weight
Will those UL rods handle a 30” red?
For sure and more.
Guess I'm a tite wad, cut the video at $279, 😲, NOTTTTT!!!
