Good call on the headroom issue. I usually make ambient/chillout stuff so I have no idea how to get my loudness "correct" when it comes to this kind of music. That helped a bit!
9:10 You are correct, I struggled with those synth pads quite a bit because I needed something to frame the chords, but they were boring as hell since everything else was taking up all the headroom.
While you're working in Vital, I can see how valuable it is to have a deep knowledge of these super flexible synths. I do like the comparison to an eyeglasses office "Better 1 or 2" when it comes to creating a certain sound. You don't know exactly what you want, but you can definitely tell what you DON'T want.
Thanks for the detailed breakdown! I learned a lot about why that synth sounded bad. More motion and movement, keep things changing and evolving.

Yeah man, it might seem like a lot of trouble to go through for just a quick chord stab; but that brief wiggle it gets with the sync knob and the detune knob helps bring it to the attention of the listener, so even though it's not super loud - it's stands out in the mix.

Also, I would like to hear more tunes from you like this one. This was a good one.

Oh heck, thanks so much for showcasing my song! I just started the video, but I'm super looking forward to getting some feedback on how I did so I can improve. This was a really fun diversion from what I normally do, but I think this kind of production knowledge can be applied to most everything

    My man!
Thank you so much for the feedback. I hear you on the sidechain and bass release timing issues. That’s the most common critique I get from those generous enough to give constructive criticism. I never would’ve thought to add an additional bassline though. And it works so well! Truly brilliant. And the tweaks to the really great other two songs, by Ben Burnes and cent in this Coffee Time episode were very enlightening. You’re a wealth of knowledge, skill, and talent. Thank you for sharing it with us!
P.S. No, that’s not my Spotify profile, but I’m not proud of what I have on there anyway. haha.

so happy to see you making vids again my dude...a couple of years ago your "How to make music like G Jones" video was literally one of the things that pushed me into learning music production, so thanks and great new content as expected
