    Why I love physical media ua-cam.com/video/JDcJHtxWmIA/v-deo.html
    My entire movie collection ua-cam.com/video/k94E8ZidzBU/v-deo.html
    Why you should collect Physical Media
    1. No Internet required.
    2. No buffering or constant change in video quality.
    3. 4K disc will always look (and sound) better than 4K streaming because of the higher bitrate on disc.
    4. You don’t have to guess what films are available for you to watch. Streaming services constantly change their catalog.
    5. When you buy physical media you own it forever.
    6. You don’t have to deal with censorship & alterations.
    7. Packaging such as Slipcovers, Limited editions, Steelbooks, Boxsets, new commissioned artwork, postcards, posters & booklets.
    8. Special features such as behind the scenes interviews, commentaries, documentaries & deleted scenes.
    9. You don’t have to worry about your entire library disappearing if a streaming service goes out of business.
    10. With Physical Media you have your favorite films at your finger tips in their highest quality with loads of special features, no Internet required, no alterations and it’s yours to own forever!

    Only way to actually used your high end OLED 4K TV, colors are richer, deeper, more clarity. Hell a 1080p bluray will looked better than a 4K stream, believed me I've seen it.

    Up until this year I would agree but I’m finding more and more of blu rays or dvds simply stop working or skipping especially Warner bros discs. So far I’m up to 12 disc I’ve discovered this year that no longer play or you get half way through and stop. The discs are clean no marks nothing. I’m now learning this is common among Warner bros discs. VHS lasted way longer I still have vhs tapes that are close to 40 years old and work fine, where’s as so of the discs that stopped working are barley10 years old.

      I’ve been lucky enough not to have any problems with my discs yet but I’ll definitely look out when it comes to stuff from Warner bros.
      I still have some VHS tapes from when I was younger. I wish I could find more horror ones for my collection. I love that format.

    My absolute favourite movies are in my physical media collection. I trimmed down a lot of the fat, ones I had collected but no real desire to watch again but I'm always keeping my favourites in case the streaming options for them disappear.
    I also love VHS and broadcasted media is the life blood of my channel. A Televised tv show or movie with all the ads and channel idents is a real snapshot in time.

      That’s a pretty smart way to collect physical media. I almost bought a movie that I didn’t like because of the cool packaging and thought to myself would I even watch this?
      One thing I don’t regret is buying another copy of my favorite films. Especially if it’s to upgrade or new special features.
      As a kid I’d skip all the ads & trailers but now that stuff warms my heart and takes me back. Like you mentioned it’s a snapshot in time. I appreciate channels like yours keeping those memories alive.

    Chris!!! Thank you so much for sharing this!! Physical media will always be important as collecting movies support the artists who made them! 🎬 I only have services like Paramount+ and Netflix but I prefer to collect my movies where I can have high quality from all catalogs of DVDs, Blu Rays, and 4Ks! It feels special to own movies on these platforms as you are able to experience the full movie without limitations which is why physical media is the best! 📀

    I collect physical to this day, it's been a hobby of mine since I was like 7-8. Sure, streaming is convenient, but physical wins for a couple reasons.
    #1: no lagging or buffering.
    #2: large collections and you can watch what you want when you want.
    #3 This one's a biggie - most physical copies not only include the Bluray and 4k versions but also a digital code. So even for those that don't mind watching a physical copy, you still get a code as a bonus.
    I plan to make a collection video at some point. This gave me a great incentive to get on that lol

      I feel the same way. I’ll never forget the feeling of renting or buying a movie at the store as a kid. I was so excited to go home and check it out and it’s carried over throughout my adult life.
      I agree with all of those points you made and especially the last one, instead of paying full price for the film digitally why not buy the physical media copy that also comes with a digital code. Just makes way more sense and you have the best of both worlds.
      I’d love to see that video! Keep up the great work on your channel my friend.

    I learned this lesson a while back (quite a while back) when I purchased Ween's The Mollusk album from an online source that used DRM so I couldn't download and play it, even though I had purchased the album. One day, I went to play it and was told that the company had been purchased by Wal-Mart, but the Ween album was no longer available. In essence, I was told to pound sand. Lesson learned. Anything you purchase as an online file can be taken away from you without notice.

    I can't get my wife and daughter to use physical media. They will stream a movie when the physical copy is right in front of them. If that physical movie is not streaming, they will watch something else that is.

      @ChrisBrockYT  3 місяці тому

      My family is like that also. They normally watch Netflix, Hulu etc. however when something isn’t available on streaming it is a cool feeling when I have it and let them watch it.

  • @THE_BEAR_JEW

    I collect physical media movies because I have many family members who don't speak English. Usually you get several other language dubs on disc and those same dubs are not on streaming.
    In videogames, I also prefer physical because you can easily let a family member or friend borrow a game. It's just convenient.

    I never stopped buying physical media. I have used streaming services for convenience and TV shows but it's never been my main. I'm one of those home theater (cinema) guys so I don't need to go into all of that lol. But yeah, I never stopped buying it and I have a lot of things that are either not available anywhere on streaming or I can watch without having to pay $3.00 US per episode. I hope a lot of people see this video but then again, if they do, it won't matter lol

    • @ChrisBrockYT

      That’s my main thing about streaming it is very convenient and there is no denying that but like you mentioned so many films and shows have never been available on streaming services. On the flip side there have been media made specifically for streaming that has disappeared into the void and that kinda scares me.

    Unlike vinyl records, Blu-ray discs def. have a shorter lifespan, so I'm very aware that the magnetic strip will eventually peel-off.
    I love physical media, but I'm also thinking of it like an investment. I don't want to buy all these 4K movies and in a couple of years 8K comes out and having to start it all over again.

    • @ChrisBrockYT
      @ChrisBrockYT  3 місяці тому

      I’ve heard the lifespan can be anywhere from 5-20 years if not longer depending on how it’s stored but I completely get where you’re coming from.
      I was very hesitant about collecting 4Ks because I already had a bunch of my favorite movies on Blu-Ray but I always tried to look and see if they included any new extras and goodies that was worth the upgrade.
      Financially I haven’t made the best choices as a collector 😅 I’ve bought multiple copies of films I love even when I didn’t need to.

      @@ChrisBrockYT I personally prefer Blu-rays over 4K discs, because the laser is so small that even a tiny scratch can ruin a movie, whereas Blu-rays can even look better than streaming 4K and tend to play more better.
      That being said, I'm wanting to watch a movie like "The Motorcycle Dairies" and "Rocknrolla" and it's nowhere to be found online........So physical media for my most cherished movies.

    People do not have the room for it. Less people own property and jobs are not that secure in the 2020s. More convenient to have everything digital. Id prefer a quiet room with a library of books and films. A lot of people in England can not afford that.

    • @ChrisBrockYT
      @ChrisBrockYT  3 місяці тому

      That’s understandable if someone doesn’t have the room for a physical movie collection.
      At one point i didn’t have enough room on my first shelf so I had to build another one and that costed a pretty penny in this economy.
      Definitely pros and cons with both but in certain situations digital is better.

    What if the bluray or dvd is altered itself? They're starting to use Ai in restorations and that's terrible obviously. The only way to get good quality high res shit is to torrent it, movies suck now anyway and directors don't need to make anymore money.

    • @ChrisBrockYT
      @ChrisBrockYT  2 місяці тому

      That’s a good point. I know some 4K releases like Jaws 3, Jaws The Revenge and some James Cameron movies have used AI in the restorations and people are not happy about it.
      I think the safe bet is to wait until some reviews are up before buying releases from those studios.
      I’m an old soul so I personally prefer the movies from the 70’s, 80’s and even 90’s. I think there are still some great movies today but I feel a lot of them lack heart and originality.

      @@ChrisBrockYT I guess the only way to push people back to physical media is if there’s just a massive education process on the quality of the watch - rather like how we’ve seen a small resurgence in vinyl - which has actually overtaken the purchase of physical CDs for the first time. But I think it may be a lost cause largely. But with so many ways to now stream for the perception of free - I think it will be a long time before we see a resurgence of any kind.
