This is good news. A new variant that is more transmissible but less dangerous. This means the virus is evolving to become weaker. Hopefully at one point it becomes like the flu in the sense that it lives in the background and we get past the lockdowns and everything recovers.
Natural evolution of these types of viruses to evolve not to be too dangerous to the host in order for it to survive.
FINALLY, someone that understands how mutations work. they don't get stronger they usually get less lethal.

Well said and that is what I have been saying. But sadly many don’t get it and freak out whenever they hear about a new variant and mutation. Viruses get weaker as they mutate but spread faster since it is trying to survive.

Duh? The booster is for added protection. If you wore a state-of-the-art seatbelt with padding an protective gear you could still die in a car crash. Simple things ain't simple for y'all. It's certainly worth mentioning the patients lack of a booster shot. It's not to suggest that the catalyst for contraction was the lack of the booster, but rather a factor. Think!

I'm just curious, when the Delta variant was spreading like wildfire, how did they know that's what everyone had, because when I was tested for COVID-19 I asked how they could tell what variant it was if I tested positive and the nurse said they can't and that they only mark it as a covid positive test and that only a few labs in the united states' can actually test the different strains. So how do they know that is what everyone had?

Genome sequencing. Or, they can just trace you back to someone with a variant, and with almost 100% certainly, say that you have that variant.
The ‘only a few labs in the US can test it’ is utter dribble. Every respectable country has labs capable of conducting genome sequencing. Which allows you to identify mutations, which then allows you to match those mutations with a variant.

It didn’t necessarily emerge in South Africa. It was sequenced by South African scientists. That country has razor sharp capabilities due to its almost 40-year battle with HIV and TB. For all we know it could have be a tourist from the EU who brought it over and South African had the tools to spot it quickly. The possibility is that it’s already in a lot of other places, undiscovered.
