A few tips for conversions/kitbashes of any monopose Primaris Space Marine.
1: Head/helmet swap.
Cut the head with its tab off before assembling the mini.
The monopose minis from all the way back in 8th edition have the same ball and socket joint at the multi-part kits.
2: Arm swap.
Remove any parts that stick out from the torso, and file the shoulder joint flat.
3: Personalisation.
Go through your bitz collection for spare reliquaries (the small relic containers you get in, for example, the 10-man Intercessors set), purity seals, etc.
Glue a few of these onto each Marine, and don't overdo it with these.
And finally, but not least importantly, 4: Don't be afraid to make mistakes.

Been building a DA intercession kill team, and I use older pattern backpacks and helmets to signal that those specific primaris used to be firstborn etc.

I cut away the legs on one of those DA veterans and primarisyfied it, and threw some bladeguard bits on it.
It was a pain but im happy with it.
I painted it in heresy era colors. Im thinking im gonna do the same with my sternguard vets.
Definitely taking some notes here!
I’ve been leaning on doing my lion guard in heresy colours to make them stand apart and fit in with the lion, as for the older da vets if I didn’t have the Sternguard bodies I probably would of attempted something like that too.
Been thinking of starting a Dark Angels force and it looks like Leviathan conversions are a good way to get that ball rolling.
You can really jazz them up with just a few bits and get a great looking unique couple of units
@cat_or_rabbit your word is backed up by your work. Been converting Orks for years and think it's time I revisited my roots. Dark Vengeance battle box was my first purchase (split with a friend) and it wasn't until we got home that we realized both of us wanted the Dark Angels. I lost the coin flip and started Chaos. But I've always wanted a Dark Angels force. The Primaris scale feels right to me, Leviathan comes close to DA appeal, The Lion is back, and GW are hinting they plan to drop more kits. It's a good time for the faction indeed.
@@xilch0 it is indeed! - I recently managed to get some of the dark vengeance units that I’ll be looking at and using in the near future - a really great faction especially as you can go either knightly or embrace the Indian themes and really make them unique
Brilliant Vid, love the DA kit-bashes, the advice on the banner pinning was great to catch, as I was about to do a banner kitbash and adding the pin makes sense for strength, so thanks loads for that, really nice chilled video too which I like about your channel.
Thanks for the kind words, I’ll 100% do more of these, as there’s loads of things I didn’t cover sometimes you can just pop a bit of glue down, however with things like banners the pinning really helps, and it’s not hard to do - just daunting if you’ve never done it before

Super cool kitbashes! I've done similar hoods with MKIII and MKVIII helmets and green stuff for a lieutenant and some Bladeguard veterans, it really adds a lot to the Dark Angel look 🤙
Honestly just a hooded head swap is instant dark angels, the painting does 50% of the work - I’m hoping for a really big upgrade sprue if the rumors are true! Lots of hoods!

I have converted my terminator captain.
I replace the head with one of the grey knight paladin kit.
I didn't like the storm bolter and with the new imperial fist captain for Horus heresy having a double volkyte on his arm, I used the tank sprue (that you can find in every box of Horus heresy tank) and join 2 volkyte (they are suppose to be combi-volkyte, but you can add a cable or something else to mask the hole) and put it under his arm.
Except that, I'm still looking for inspiration for my stanguard and I do like very much yours 🔥🔥

I'm actually kitbashing Indomitus because they're better for the custom chapter I've started. They're knights who are mix of Dark Angels, Iron Warriors and Black Templars. I'm using various bits and color choices that tell the backstory. I'm pleased at how well my crazy ideas are working in the models.

I just bought the company veterans box myself, but I'm never going to build them because like you said, it's just twice the amount of an upgrade sprue but the amount of kitbashing bits you get is just perfect 👌

I do try and avoid reels/shorts unless it’s just to show off a completed mini, personally I don’t mind a longer video 😂 I LOVE seeing peoples take on chapters and how they theme them!

Outriders are a great kit for that, and I’ve seen some awesome RW conversions, it’s just a lot of fun to do!

I don kitbash often I'm not a big fan of building models 😅 but this was straight forward. I might do more with my lamenters & print or buy some custom pieces.
I think certain factions are easier to kitbash then others - things like Dark Angels have a very unique look that makes it pretty easy to get into - other factions (like lamenters or less ornate chapters) will have a slightly tougher time, however with the added use of 3rd party bits you could probably come up with some great conversions and kitbash's

45 rank and file done. Today I get to work on some character models and I have a few war machines to do. 30 foot troops 15 mounted.

Yes! You did them green which I think is appropriate as Dark Angels used to not be able to take Sternguard in the past. Instead as you pointed out they have thier own version of called Dark Angels Veterans kit that comes with 5 First Born Vets and a an armory of weapon options with all 5 Marines adorned in robes similar to the new Primaris Sternguard. I would consider these as the equivalent of Dark Angel Greenwing Veterans. Just because a Dark angel is a vet doesn't necessarily make him a member of the Inner Circle.
I think awhile ago I was researching how Dark Angel's identify thier Sergeants. As usual it's not 100% known because they don't discuss thier military structure to those outside of the Chapter. Most Space Marine Chapter's Sergeants use a different colored Helmet. I typically its suggested Dark Angel Sergeants where a hooded helmet or hood with no helm.
Are the Combi Weapons worth it compared to the Sternguard Bolter Rifle that has Assault, Heavy, Dev Wounds (it appears all thier ranged weapons have Dev Wounds), with 2 attacks with Rapid Fire 1 hitting on 3+, AP -1 and 1 damage. Whereas the Combi Weapon has 1 attack at 24" with Rapid Fire 1, Anti-Infantry 4+, Hitting on 4+ (weak), AP 0 (Weak) with Dev Wounds dealing 1 damage. (1 Base attack unless Rapid Fire 1 activates when firing at unit at 12" for a total of 2 attacks).
At least the Vet guard Bolter Rifle has base 2 attacks at 24" with Rapid Fire 1 for the potential of 3 ranged attacks and can use Heavy to add +1 to hit allowing him to hit on 2+ and also has Dev Wounds and some AP.
The Heavy Bolter hits on a 4+, but at least he also has Heavy which can allow him to attack on 3+ up to 36" away with Dev Wounds and Sustained Hits 1 at Str 5, AP -1 with a damage characteristic of 2 which is great when combined with Dev Wounds and Sustained Hits 1. A Lt Leader feels great with Fall back and shoot, however he also grants Lethal which can interfere with Dev Wounds.
What's the best Dark Ange's Leader for this unit? A Librarian or potentially a Captain? Owning a total of 10 Sternguard for every 5 models you are able to take 1 Heavy Bolter. Is it better to shrink them down to two units of 5 , placing each unit on both flanks?
I really hate what they did with Combi Weapons this edition...
i think the thing that really appeals to me about Dark Angels is just how ambiguous alot of their structure is allowing you to fill in the gaps in no right or wrong way. as for the rules i try not to focus to much on them as im more of a rule of cool person - however i have heard these are very good against crowds - i also would go for 2 units of 5 just so you get the extra heavy bolter aswell.
