As someone who has painted over 200 ultra Marines.... I have to say that ultramarine looks fantastic.. He is much more of a popping blue.. Like he has come out from the battlefield into a brightly lit destroyed temple or something. Beautiful.
Well dude it’s the internet been like this since the earliest chat rooms. Best thing is to just have thick skin and not pay any attention to them, or mess with them back have fun with it. I was 12 when the internet became what wide spread or at least got dial up in my house.
I like that you don’t hide when things don’t come out quite how you hoped. None of us are done learning and seeing people you look up to admit that they struggled with a new art style is a good reminder of that. I hope to see more videos where you try new styles in the future!
I really appreciate that you guys talk about the process and your feelings on the work you do, and show us you trying new things. As a relatively new hobbyist still trying to find the style I like I love to see different takes on familiar things
I love that you gave us your honest work. It’s nice to see and if we’re honest these came out better than most when we tried something completely new for the first time.
I'm a massive fan of the Grimdark Compendium. It was so cool seeing Dave try out these whethering techniques. The style really is a rabbit hole of interesting methods
Thank you all for the extra tips and techniques, for the Grimdark I always look and learn from Grimdark compendium, and now from you guys👌👌😉. For the last model, add more dirty random stains and bits on the ground, will look more grimdark 💪🏻
Great to see everyone pushing themselves, it’s easy to lapse into habits and not progress. That being said, often pushing yourself too hard can run you into a wall. I don’t want to single one person out but I’d like to see Dave self crit his work here and see where he can refine and improve. The mini conversion was really great and I especially like the base but I think it actively worked against him in that it was too elaborate a mini for a first attempt. Maybe give it a bash again with some assault intercessors from the box and include one new method at time? You’ve got this Dave!
Looks great! The Necrons that Jen did came up great! The battle damage looks so good on Murray's Ultramarine! Love it! Great work with your Grimdark Chaplain, Dave! The use of colours are perfect for Blanchitsu! Grimdark style of painting miniatures is always something that I wanted to try but I will have to find the right batch of miniatures to try it with. Maybe I'll see if I can use some of the techniques for a Mordheim warband? I dont know. We will see. Thanks again for another amazing video TTT!
Volume 3 of Colorful Kraken Studios actually contains a tutorial for a Mordheim Ogre I painted, so you can definitely check that out for a grimdark style warband!
Guys, that really needed to show what you were attempting alongside your own efforts. Knowing that a technique didn't come out as you hoped doesnt help when we cant see what you were aiming for.
Im usually not a fan of looking at other paint guides, but i backed the kickstarter because it would be useful to have nearby and perhaps, just maybe, improve my painting skills!?
I've got to admit this video was a bit disappointing. Like it hinted at lots of cool new techniques but I really didn't understand why they weren't expanded on. Why did you use super glue as a paint? What was the goal? How was it used and would you do it again? Instead it was showed as b-roll in the background and quickly moved past. This definitely didn't feel like TTT's best work unfortunately. I'm sorry to be a downer like that but it's my honest impression and the title felt clickbate-y as it doesn't feel like you even satisfied your own goals for grimdark. I love this channel and will always watch what you put out but this felt rushed. I do think the weathered ultramarine looked great though and am glad you guys are experimenting with new painting techniques. Will keep my eye out for the next video
I like all three of the propositions but Dave's one a little less, I understand the Grimdark approach and goal but I find the result rather blurry and a tad too much desaturated with barely any focal point other than the iron Halo and the sceptre. Murray's proposition is the best imo, it's Grimdark enough while keeping vibrant colors and staying much more readable in the same time. Jen's work is very cool too while staying quite standard ^^
The necrons look like they're glowing, which is super cool and creepy for something that just rise from the swamp. I enjoy Murray's collective outcome (colors and distressing) the best, and Dave's modifications were spectacular as always. Love the candles. I like even more that you all tried something new. I've seen some constructive comments and some seeming less helpful. I suggest taking it as a compliment that you have a style that people like. Change is hard for some people, and the internet especially seems to give license for poor behavior. PS: caring about all of you. I saw some hints of exhaustion in eyes while talking to camera. Take care of yourselves.
That version of blue for the Ultramarine looks more like a nice Emperor’s Spears blue. The Dark Angel was fine until the superglue, now itlooks like it has been sucking into a vacuum cleaner with dust all over it. The Necrons look more like they’re going to a rave than anything else, and like they were painted in 2 minutes.
Welp i hope ur happy cause the necrons i been working on must now be redone like the ultra boy cause that rusty look was actually perfect for my legion of the forgot crons
Honestly, I dont think the necron came out well however credit to jen for trying something new and with some more practice it would probably come out much better The ultramarine came out the best. The blue armour really came together after the other colours were added. Maybe a tad excesseive on the weathering, at least on the helmet. The dark angel came out fine, no real thoughts on it
the best video ideas are not born from "this is the product we are going to advertise ... how do we make a video around?" ... the chanel has lost me as a watcher

Some of these comments are cruel. Why hate on trying new techniques? Sometimes things don't work out and not everyone is going to like everything.
I absolutely agree some people just need to keep quiet when critiquing someone’s work
@@jc7997aj that’s fair I didn’t really think of that I guess I meant more of if you critique is just…that looks awful then why critique at all

Love the blood angle!!! Dave your conversions are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I don't understand and it's not really explained at all what the superglue is supposed to achieve, so if anyone can elaborate it'd be appreciated.
I would have never thought to use superglue as a paint. It really does make things rather glossy.
Thin your superglues...?
As a first attempt with some rather wild methods, I say all of these projects were a success!
oooo the models look great! keep up the good work

SLIMEY NECRONS AWESOME
Murray you painted part of the tabard like it was armour, the section above the belt.

Yey.
Question. Why use the supe glue on the shoulder pads instead of gloss varnish?
Probably since the super glue will dry with a bit of a texture
