The Aussie games could be Pokémon Opal and Iron, based on Australia being the top exporter of those minerals.

I don’t really like the distinction between casual and challenge mode here. Something can be challenging while still respecting your time.
One big thing I don’t understand is why so many people want the removal or reversion of the exp share. Having to grind for experience/levels is not a meaningful challenge or difficulty, so something that mitigates having to do that should be a good thing. The one reason a game would be too easy with the exp share on and just right with it disabled would be because the difficulty curve wasn’t properly balanced to account for the exp share and/or the challenge of the game is too closely tied to levels and not something else like tactics.

That is totally fair! No matter which way your team levels up, if the difficulty curve doesn't match your growth, there is a problem. As a game designer, if I was to have the two game modes with exp-share on/off, I would hope they were balanced for both. But *mechanically*, you are right, there shouldn't be that separation, it doesn't serve a purpose.
*Narratively* however, (and I'll go into this in a future episode) I can think of one purpose that the absence of exp-share performs: bonding with your Pokemon. A Pokemon you throw onto your team and hardly use (yet it levels up), is one that you have not really spent quality time with or experienced struggles with. Considering that bonding with your Pokemon is basically the moral to the story for every Pokemon story… This is a big problem!
This is partly why I suggested not having level up items until after being a champion. Investing effort and time on each Pokemon on your team, naturally increases your attachment to it. This is why, at least for me, I would not want exp-share forced on me. Because people experience Pokemon differently and have different parts of the games they enjoy, there is naturally a divide in what people prefer. I was just trying to cater to different tastes really. I don’t know if it would succeed :P

I am of two minds regarding legendarys. On one hand a lot of people do not believe the power of legendarys and convince themselves that they are just rare pokemon when they are in fact deities, forces of nature, and embodiments of concepts. They want a demonstration from the legendarys otherwise they won't believe it, and if some idiot is causing enough trouble or messing with their domains then it does make sense for the legendarys to get involved in their own way. The tapestry woven between the legendarys is an aspect of the pokemon world that deserves to be explored. On the other hand however, the legendarys don't really care what people think about them and are fully defined by their domain and role. They thrive on being apart of the pokemon world's negative space, living mysteries and forces that we may never fully understand. Gamefreak currently treats them like candy at a dollar store which is the worst of both for both hands, and when they try making a story that heavily involves them, they often do not know what to do with the legendarys and end up making a story that doesn't make sense in relation to the legends themselves or worse no information is presented on them whatsoever so we don't know anything about or why they exist. It is incredibly frustrating.
As someone that values stories and the world itself I do not agree with that developer's notion of removing story from the games. I am much more interested in the world of pokemon and the stories within than the competitive scene and I don't want my team to be stagnated by that scene. I also much prefer the old function of the experience share where it is a held item that only affects one pokemon. It is easier to get my team to all be around the same level that way.

This is a really nice perspective on Legendary Pokemon! I think there is great credit due to the Legendaries for inspiring this atmosphere about themselves... in spite of the fact that Game Freak does not treat them like this. Imagine how things could be if they were!

@@RadioactiveMagicGames that would be nice but the question becomes how. How to give the demonstrations that some people want while also keeping them in the negative where they thrive. How to keep that aura and atmosphere while keeping them consistent with themselves, their roles, and domains. Typically the more you reveal the less negative they become so the how is quite the conundrum.

That wouldn't make it for adults, that would make it a better game as a whole. I don't understand why people think kids are stupid xd

Regarding the nuzlocke issue of pokemon permanently fainting in an officially licensed capacity: this could be easily rectified by making the KO'd pokemon run away after battle if the player lets it faint.

If we pretend that pokemon choose to allow the trainer to catch them, we could say that if you allow them to faint they run away because they've lost interest on you as a trainer.

...Fair to say that, if you have tamagotchi-like interactions with your Pokemon, that Lv Ups might not be *as* important for powering up?
Like, if XP Share is on, but does not share EVs. And actual interactions with your pokemon might often be better EV sources than combat.
The "pokemon as petsim" training angle I really like, and would love to see that rewarded via battle proficiency, on top of the simple joy of "my digital pet likes me

The idea of ditching the story reminds me of the Virtua Fighter 5 campaign, which, rather than following the stories of the characters, instead made you play as a kid going through arcades challenging other kids to Virtua Fighter 5. No complex story. Just this kid that wants to win a videogame tournament.
(They did have a system for NPC players to have different gameplay focusses, so two NPCs playing the same character wouldn't play quite the same way, but that kind of thing is probably overkill for pokemon.)

Actually, for NPCs you fight more than once (like the Elite Four, or how in Crystal you could get phonecalls from other trainers you met), that might be effective and interesting. 🤔

This. This. This is why I put down Pokemon games.
    My current issues:
Pokemon has a deep and interesting system of combat that should, by every right, be able to intrigue me and get me to take notes on it in order to master it.
Said system is trivialised by having the game serve underleveled Pokemon to fight most of the time.
Said system is surrounded by tiny baby stories that don't inspire character growth except maybe "rival stops being a dick".
Said system is aggravating to deal with if the difficulty spikes randomly because Ooops! It seems your team is accidentally completely countered by the wild Pokemon of this region.
    In a perfect world:
The interesting and complex system that runs a Pokemon battle is preserved in its interesting integrity.
This system is supported by engaging encounters that require me to think instead of just pushing the "kill" button.
This system is not prone to difficulty spikes because I just walked into Route 72 and everyone on Route 72 uses Psychic which my team cannot fight.
This system is supported by an interesting story that inspires me to get better at the system in order to triumph over adversity that engages me intellectually or emotionally. I would point out that Team Magma and [the other one] both had legitimate interests and wanted to help humanity by waking their legendary.
Also it would be nice if I could choose whatever hairstyle I wanted.
