Would like to mention that Nintendo has changed the Kong Family tree multiple times to retcon DK JR as a different original Kong in favor of having him be a grown version of the DK we know today (which could explain how he takes up the rival mantle in the Mario vs. DK games despite being presented as 2 generations past Mario himself)

I think they redesigned Tiny because they needed a large character to replace Banjo (Dixie replaced Conker) and they probably wanted more female characters since there was only 1 in the original.
