I like to think Fungus Forest was remade into Click Clock Wood for BK due to the natural aesthetic and cycle of time, but instead of a day night cycle, they opted for the four seasons
The coconut gun story with Miyamoto is easily the most hilarious stories revolving him. Just the idea of a man drawing up a kid friendly alternative literally on the spot in light of his horror with the visual of the Kong's using real guns is pure comedy to me.
12:32 This literally made me laugh out loud, I just found this channel and I'm having a blast with all the iceberg videos, the guy narrating them is hilarious in all of them.
Man I SWEAR when I was a kid I once had a dk64 dream in which you could play the golden krusha on overworld stages and there was another level. It's entrance was behind the entrance of angry atztec, dks ear leaves out an unusually large and open area and since that dream I had always wished for there to be a level. In the dream the level was an even darker and very rainy version of creepy castle with bridges that were barely thick enough to be crossed.. The dream felt so insanely real..
I had a dream of the fungi forest island because ei was like 5 and couldn't fucking beat the 3rd key boss, so I tried and tried with tiny to fly, I did have a crazy dream I got over there with tiny and if only I realized lanky arm trick to get past the banana doors to try a different boss instead.
That beetle race infuriated me as a child. A decade later, I learned you could attack the beetle at the start of the race. So I hooked up the N64, and had my sweet victory at last!
I never could get past the mad jack fight in donkey kong 64. The game was very strange to me as a kid and still is. Its just kinda weird in some areas, I also had nightmares about it quite a bit as a kid, despite not really being afraid of anything in the game. It was so odd
I had the same thing with Super Mario 64, several nightmares as a kid. Seems to be something about that generation of games, it is a comforting nostalgia while also being equal parts unsettling
I've had dreams of an "Impossible Mode" of DK64; it had different levels, and one was a wall of vines and thorns, in what looked more like Big Boo's Haunt, and B. Locker was a very powerful boss fight, which attacked with fireballs from the sky in 2.5-D (like Donkey Kong Country); and cool stuff like that. On a slightly lighter note, I've also had dreams of a sequel of sorts; one dream, there were clouds you could climb from the Angry Aztec ledge, and up in the clouds it turned into a cloud-themed level, with electrified laser wires; one dream, it was a Banjo-Pilot looking race, but 3-D, and you were racing Canary Mary in a barrel airplane and smaller Canary Marys kept appearing as enemies and would make you blow up or lose a life... And then, at least two "sequels", which started in the starting area of DK64 (with the treehouse) or in Jungle Japes or Fungi Forest; they were jungle-themed. One, had lots of those hollowed logs to run through, and new collectables, new NPC characters with their own homes... Another, was just trying to find a way to climb higher and higher in the jungle woods of the beginning area (the higher ledges were where the "jungle-themed vegetation walls" were; instead of it just being sealed off out of bounds, they were ledges, and you could find places to exit and enter back into the area, and could use this method to reach previously unreachable ledges and stuff...) There were enemies and everything, plenty of gnawtys (beavers), and zingers and everything, in some places. Then, one final dream (one of my earliest); I was in the Banana Hoard area, and I found a way to go above it. Up there, were golden gnawtys. After I woke up, later that day I played DK64, and was trying to see if I could actually get up there, and fight the golden gnawtys!! (I had been playing the Rambi game a lot; so that may have been a contributing factor...)
@@A13XLaircey ha, wow. Thats a seriously detailed dream. My brother has detailed dreams. Do you play donkey kong 64 a lot? I feel like you do cuz of all the detail in that dream, super cool
@@skeleton819 Yeah, used to play it all the time growing up. My N64 is temporarily in storage, but I am planning on playing DK64 and both Banjo games soon!
A thought occurred to me during the part about the unused life balloons: there is an actual game over sequence in the game that is accessed by selecting "exit game" in the pause menu while outside of a level that actually pops up with "GAME OVER" on the screen near the end of the cutscene. I have to wonder if that was originally intended for the game over sequence that would have played if you ran out of life balloons and the developers thought it was a good fit for an "exit game" scenario (albeit also at risk of giving children nightmares). All in all, a great video!
Man this channel is underrated as fuck, this is an actual iceberg video and not one of those shitty ones where there's this dude reading a fucking wikipedia article. subbed.
Dude. I love your editing and personality. Subbed and liked. I also grew up with DK64 and couldn't beat the original DK game at the end until 10 years later (2009). I love this game.
I still remember doing Krazy Kong Klamour (do not abbreviate) on Wii U. The timer ran slowly due to the lower framerate, and that meant you actually have more time to complete it on N⁶⁴, whereas the Wii U version requires you to have either the reflexes of Spider-Man, or the knowledge that you need to pause as the Kongs appear.
That’s honestly disappointing. I’d like to revisit the game on classic hardware too, but it’s just not worth finding everything. Like expansion packs are like 40+ now and you need a crt, you want good joysticks that are oem it’s just a lot of money to get back into it authentically. I hope if they release dk64 on the switch it’s not running faster on their emulator
@@JohnLucPicard98 I honestly have a lot of fun playing my N⁶⁴ with the Brawler⁶⁴s, can't recommend them highly enough. I had a minor issue with one controller, and asked them what I should do about it, and they sent me a whole new controller.
It is strange how Dixie Kong was never even placed in areas with barrels yet she was still totally programmed with her own barrel tossing animations and voice reactions, the devs clearly wanted her to interact with barrels it just looks like they forget to put any in her levels.
At 20:30 if you collect the key and reset your console with proper timing, you can return to the level and the Portals will have a DK logo on top of them and entering them shows Troff and Scoff left and the door has the checkmark. I've done it in the past and can get a video of it if you can't do it.
I can explain the mario franchise is inside creepy castle. at the time, mario 64 was the only 3d mario game and all of the worlds were paintings inside the castle. That theory goes into the "every copy of mario 64 is personalized" one with the copies having different verisons of the castle inside. Creepy Castle was supposedly one of those variations. Basically it's a continuation of that 1995/07/29 build in the other game.
He started with banjo tooie music meaning if you cant take the dk64 heat, go play banjo tooie which is one of my favorite games of all time. Definitely dont recommend using cheats unless you get stuck because it ruins it. The suspense and danger is gone. And even with the fallproff cheat on theres still bottomless pits which still instakill you like in sonic which i hate.
It's weird how these videos mention the Stop n' Swop feature being taken away from the Nintendo 64 games, but are reinstated in the Xbox versions. It's also weird you mention the keys and how we know what they do now and work.
Fun fact about beaver bother, the hole in the middle doesn't have collision at all not even underneath so no one really knows why the beavers act like there's an invisible wall there when you push them towards it
The yellow cartridge came in the limited edition dk n64 console-console was clear green and the cartridge yellow, OR if you pre-ordered/early purchased. Im in Aust. and we got the yellow cartridge without the console-though i think we may have got a yellow controller, but that could’ve just been the controller colour we didn’t have yet and just so happened to get the game and controller at the same time
Come on, we all know that Coconut gun story didn't happen like that. What REALLY happened was, Miyamoto saw the shotgun version and was so blown away by it, that he stole ALL the working copies of the game with DK with a shotgun, all for himself. To make sure Miyamoto didn't steal any further copies of the game, Rare decided to remove the shotgun and add the Coconut gun instead.
I guess i like & enjoy bad games i got this n 99 i was 13 and i collected enough to beat it i never felt like it was too much had no bugs that i can recall i really enjoyed this game from collection to mini games i also like duke nukem forever too
I legit could not finish this game. It sucks because Donkey Kong is my favourite N64 character and I loved the Donkey Kong Country games. A glitch prevented me from collecting all the golden bananas :(
I heard they updated the N64 hardware so it would hold Data in RAM for 1 second, instead if 10 or something. If i still had my N64, i swear i could switch a Cartridge in one second. - for the Banjo Kazooie Stop n' Swop feature.
Why are you trashtalking fluffy little Snide so much?!!! How do you expect him to build something for you without blueprints?! He's a hero! And he's also really cute, and my favorite character in the game!
Would a frame rate limiter help elevate the emulation issue? Like have a hard framerate cap of 20 or 24 fps? Sure, it is not as smooth as you'd like; however, minus code injection or altering the source code itself, it is technically the only way of having a more stable experience due to the quirky way the game was coded by RareWare.
7:06 Yea, my first ever play through. I got 85% done. I was trying to 100% the game cuz I'm kinda a completionist. I can't help it, I just like doing everything in a game either first or second try. Yet I got 85% into this game ..... And quit. I got so tired of the bullshit minigames. It takes away from the actual game, and in some cases, it took me nearly a half hour to a full hour to beat just because it is either buggy or just general bullshit that makes me personally think the game testers just didn't get to while testing due to how large the game is. It almost makes me wonder why some people like this game over the likes of Banjo Kazooie, a game I've attempted to speed run (never got far but if I really tried I could make a good time) ... Maybe it's just nostalgia goggles for the both of us. Those who grew up on BK, and those who grew up on DK ... Still, I'm sorry, a lot of the minigames in DK64 are just filler, didn't need to exist in the first place and a lot of them just felt like bullshit. At least in BK you had full control of your character and it didn't seem like a gimmick. It felt more like skill, not like "heres this wacky minigame that takes you out of the game that you may or may not be good at!" Especially in cases with that fucking roach. Fuck rubber banding AI. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but holy shit I got so sick of being thrown into a brand new game style for a single minigame that may or may not take me a couple of minutes to an hour plus depending on how well it was programmed. Seems like something they could've entirely emitted.
I would use the gloomy galleon seal glitch to clone enough gold bananas to not need to play beaver bother or the beetle race I love this game, but refuse to touch either of those games
