  • Compulsive buying disorder (CBD) is classified as an obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorder, more specifically an impulse control disorder. Reports of the prevalence of CBD is estimated at 5.8% of the population in the United States, making it a relatively common disorder, however, this problem is not limited to the US. Though it is more often reported in higher income countries, reports of its prevalence have surfaced around the world from Canada, England, Germany, France, Spain, and Brazil. The age of onset is usually late teens or early twenties, and both males and females are equally affected. There has also been evidence of CBD running in families as well as mood, anxiety and substance use disorders. Many studies have found patients with CBD often present with psychiatric comorbidity, with a majority of CBD patients presenting with at least one other disorder. Due to its worldwide prevalence and relatively minimal public awareness, this video brings more attention to this disorder.

I'm addicted to shopping on amazon. Before I started shopping there I didn't have this problem. I have anxiety and depression and I find that these trigger the desire to shop. I will then buy everything I like of a particular item over a period of time. When I have these items and I'm bored I'll fixate on something else and the cycle repeats. I need to talk to my therapist about it.

I do this!! This is what I realized today. Just did this on Tory Burch. Now I’m planning on returning it. I’m better now at returning it but I don’t want to get to the point that I buy it. Especially moving out on my own. I’m trying to heal before I move out

The book "30 Days to Stop Being a Shopaholic" by Harper Daniels is good. It uses a mindfulness and meditation approach to get to the root. It's fun too. It's easy to overspend without the right perspective of self.

Idk if I have cbd, but I have to buy the same item over and over again If it has a dot or a dent on it. or some other flaw. I could buy up to 5 duplicates per item or more. I’ll buy an item and I’ll be displeased with it. Next few nights I’ll wake up at midnight unable to sleep because all I can think about is that item I’m not happy with. It affects me when I study or even do everyday tasks. When I walk around in markets or in my own home, the photographic memory of that item flashes in my head up to almost 15 times per hour. I’ll be online looking it up several times, calculating My financial downfall before and after the purchase. And it all temporarily stops until that item has no visible dents or flaws. When I buy items I think about how I’ll look with the product as a middle aged or old man. How it’ll look in my future home and where I’ll put it and what use it’ll bring. I think about where I’ll put this item if I ever get sick or if I’m dying. Im not a perfectionist I just know I have a problem and I don’t know how to fix it.
