Spending money to beat it faster or become stronger is just cheating. Back in the day you would type a cheat code to get more health, money, run faster, get a better car, get more exp, et... Genshin is particularly complicated case. Free to play. You get all the characters you will really need to finish the game, including the hardest end game content. But you get individual character story quest to really get to know them. They feel like companions, not just banner characters.
With ToF, the only character I know of that has good character story so far is Nemesis, our banner girl. All other characters are not fleshed out properly by Genshin standard. In Genshin, even 4 stars get great backstory.

@Matúš Martinec It’s honestly not an issue of could Genshin have been better but should Genshin be “better”.
Yes Genshin could have more complicated equipment, combat, even combos. But should it really? Would it really be more popular if it had a more complex combat system, if the had a much higher difficulty like dark souls?
My take is, I highly doubt it. I think Genshin is popular exactly because it’s simple. And it polished that simplicity to a quite high degree. Because it’s simple it also attracts people who haven’t played a lot of games before, people who want a more relaxed time while playing.
At the end of the day, hardcore gamers are still minority, and Genshin isn’t really catered towards them.

I feel Genshin has to be the most chill and most generous gacha game there is out there. How many gacha games force you to pvp against some whale to get your premium currency? Let's take one of the the worse ones like star wars galaxy of heroes made by EA for instance how if you want to make any progress you got to pay $300-$700 per character to be top in your pvp arena shard for a month or 2 but at the same time this is a constant requirement if you want to get anything back on this "investment" as the meta always power creeps to the very next thing all the time and if you don't keep up, you'll be eaten by the whales quickly. At least Genshin has little to nothing to do with the competitive stand point and most of your currency gained is just do dailies and weeklies and play the game. Spiral isn't that hard for anyone that played consistently since launch and even new players are beating it with undergeared rosters. Compared to a required "fee" for more pvp oriented gacha games to participate in events and arenas, I'd say Genshin has it way better off to perfectly fit the casual audience in a fair and balanced way. New units are not a requirement to play the game or compete and everything can be done with the base roster. Getting extra off of the free things given is just a bonus. I have no idea why anyone would ever consider Genshin to be awful compared to the likes of other predatory gacha games that more or less power creep to unfathomable levels where you have to keep buying every new unit or fall behind.

  • @AethonZerus

I actually think Genshin Impact is fairly conservative in most of these ways in comparison to everything else in the genre, and that's why I think it's so successful. They aren't constantly thrusting "offers" in your face, or "mysterious packages", or quite frankly anything. Nothing takes you out of the game. You have to manually go into the store yourself, and there isn't even that much to buy. In fact, the only thing worth buying is currency for wishes. And this is huge. There's a game to be played, a pretty good game actually, and they let you play it without pestering you.

    For Genshin's currencies:
Mora - Just your basic gold. Get it from quests, kills, domains, Leylines, etc.
Genesis Crystals - Paid only Currency
Primogems - Used to purchase Gacha pulls. Genesis can be traded for Primogems at a 1 to 1 rate so it's not any more confusing.
Fates - used to actually do the Gacha pulls. These can be purchased for 160 Primogems, and there are Rainbow ones and Blue ones. Both cost the same, and the only difference is that Rainbow is used to pull on time limited banners, Blue for the standard banner. They're earned just by playing too, from certain larger events that you can spend the points you earn during the event on.
Stardust - Obtained from Gacha pulls. Every 3-4 star you pull gives some Stardust, which can be used to purchase common crafting items, and monthly to purchase up to 5 each of the Rainbow/Blue Fates.
Starglitter - Obtained from Gacha pulls like Stardust, but only from 5-star pulls. Can be used to outright purchase rotating 4-star characters, or higher rarity crafting materials, as well as decent 4-star weapons, but never anything that's top of the line. Good, but outclassed often.
As far as remembering how much money you've actually spent on gacha pulls, it's as simple as remembering that 160 Genesis Crystals/Primogems = 1 Pull. It's still definitely got the obfuscation going on, but it's not as bad as some games I've seen. The only reason Genesis Crystals are separate from Primogems is that they're your "paid gems" rather than ones you can get for free, for the sake of purchasing skins that are paid only.
As for the "new characters are always better" bit, no, not true with Genshin. Some are, others aren't. One of the characters he used in his spread of 5 that made a ton of money in 1 day (the blonde boy) is... Actually pretty lackluster. And two of the highest rated units in the *entire game* are 4-star units that have been in the game since launch.

Even in skins department, only skins for 5 star characters are paid, the skins for 4 star characters can be unlocked if they're being released for the first time.

In genshin rather than pay to win its pay for variety, make the game easier, and progress faster in getting endgame builds. Once you have one endgame team you can pretty much beat all content forever and not worry about gacha and that could be with the free starting characters. But genshin, and many of the other most successful gacha, are pay for your waifu/husbando to be as flashy as possible. A max 5* and max 5* weapon for a character will make them op but there isn't a single piece of content that can't also be cleared with free 4* characters and weapons that have good builds. It's more the convenience or simping aspect that draws players to spend since lack of PvP and lack of endgame that necessitates whaling doesn't exist.

  • @codetime01
    @codetime01 2 роки тому +45

The two incorrect things about genshin.
    1. There are only two levels between spending money and pulling. Credit Card -> Gensis Crystals (exclusive cash premium currency) -> Primogems (normal premium currency) -> Pulling. However, it is important to note that 1 genesis crystal is equal to 1 primogem, and not some messy thing like 1 genesis crystal to 1.69 primogems. The separation between the gensis crystals and primogems is done so that skins are only obtainable through putting money into the game, otherwise there is no difference. The different currencies mentioned in the video apart from genesis crystals and primogems are basically currency you get after you pull which give you more pulls (pulling a 5* gets you one more pull basically)
    2. There is almost a reverse powecreep style to the game. The longer the game goes, the more balanced the characters are made. For example, the characters made at the start of the game were made without balance in mind as much, thus still make up over 50% of the meta as they ended up being broken. People were literally questioning on whether to pull a new 5* because she did barely better than first patch 4* (talking about yelan and xinqiu).

41:55 My first thought about the "competing on skill" thing was League. I feel like a lot of people that play league hate it because in order to consistently win you have to be constantly better than the other players (although sometimes even that isn't enough) in champion skill, micro and macro, and general game knowledge. All this would require a ridiculous amount of time, where at that point you're no longer playing the game because its fun.

    • @RS-fy9hb
      @RS-fy9hb 2 роки тому +4

No, league players thrive on boasting about their skills being better. What they hate about the game is the toxicity and trolls, and fragile egos that ruin their games. The skill (mechanically) is rather easy to get too, what's worse is building enough experience to have a good sense of item building for each game. You need exponentially more knowledge with each champ, in order to know how to counter each matchup successfully. THAT is the real skill when it comes to League. Pro players are just coincidentally also extremely good mechanically with almost every champ, because of the time they've spent training game sense and matchups.

I'm a Day 1-ish player of Genshin Impact. You don't need to spend money on Genshin Impact to get characters you want, just do the events, explore to open the chests, make your team strong to beat Spiral Abyss and enjoy the story to get the currency needed to pull the limited characters you want. All of the above is free if you put in a bit of effort and play the game normally. And even if you do that and still don't get the character you want, the "exclusive limited character" thing is a lie, just wait for the rerun of the character.
And let's say you do want to spend a little on Welkin Moon for example. It's worth it, because this game is at a very high quality. Has an engaging story, a world designed by incredible artists and arguably the best original soundtrack I've ever heard in a while. Video is incorrect on a multitude of facets, I can't actually list all the details because it would be a novel. This will probably be long as is...
1.) There is no meta, it's a single player game and you can beat everything with free characters and free weapons.
2.) Zhongli was nerfed before release, he came out very weak and the community lost their mind.
3.) Raiden Shogun was the biggest selling character in the game.
4.) Welkin and BP are the biggest value in the game it will cost you as much as a WoW sub to maintain it but you can manage without (I have multiple friends I can use as examples)
5.) The bonus on the currency resets so you can pick one in a situation where you feel it's justified and wait until it resets.
6.) Games pity is very transparent, I have never missed a character unless I was careless and accidentally hit my 100% early while trying to snag a 4 star (DO NOT DO THAT IF YOU HAVE 100%).
7.) The games events are quite generous.
8.) We know exactly how much money it takes to gaurentee a character.
9.) Weapon banner is a trap for whales, or a sink for people don't want to pull for characters anymore.
10.) Artifacts are the biggest source of power.
11.) Google how Keqing is pronounced, it's a surprise.
Lastly there are only two types of currency. Crystal and primogems...the starglitter and dust are just a way of giving you a way to pick up extra rescources and extra gems and even characters in the long run.

I get that it's pretty much 'gambling' , but 5-star character rates in Genshin are so low that you end up just assuming you'll go to the soft pity at 75-80 once (for a 50% chance) or twice (for guarantee), which is basically buying the character for a known price. and if you lose that 50% then the next one is still guaranteed no matter what/forever, even if its a different/future banner.

and this is the reason why I can't even truly view it as actual gambling. Because in gambling, there is no guarantee. So if anyone has played PGR, the main premium currency is Black Cards, with the paid Currency being the Rainbow Card. Rainbow can buy anything from more Black Cards to skins and decor pieces in game. The way the Gacha works though is that the Black Card gets converted into a specific ticket type depending on your banner. If its an event banner, its yellow. If its a regular banner for constructs its blue, alongside the regular banner for weapons. And if you want a specific weapon, you got the target banner for red. You can also purchase Rainbow Card packs that give a full 10 roll that are a monthly refill.
The Gacha system itself has a pretty good pity as well, even showing you how much you need till you get the next s rank or what not. It's still has a lot of signature gacha mechanics but overall, it focuses more on gameplay and skill rather than having all the best gear.

Additionally the new 5* units aren’t always strong a lot are weak or average in fact most of the broken 5* are from 1.x or early 2.x

In the other side, hate the 90 pulls count, for the OC nature, but, is a more easy to understand system against other gacha. On the sour side, Tower of Fantasy playing since day one, still trying to learn the multiple currency system and how you get to a wall related of the power difference between SR and SSR.
This is a matter really really important, mainly of the easy access to spend absurd amounts to stay on top or up to date with the content.

In a fair case, try rerolling today for the 1st limited banner in TOF. Then try in Genshin. TOF also has reruns that has pity that stays in different limited banners. You could get any SSR you want (3-7 SSR STANDARD is fairly easy for just a month play) while getting 1 limited SSR every other patch. They also take reruns or goes to the Standard banner after a 2-3 month. In general Genshin already lost hard, only the whiteknights and very very f20 casuals stayed in that game. Any skilled or experience RPG players already left that game and has content drought which TOF already solve by introducing scaled balanced PvP, Battle Royale, Raids with a little PowerCreep META.

That's just an insane amount compared to Genshin. I played a ton of GI when it came out and I was nowhere near that amount after months, and I was grinding so much more.
I'm guessing this will slow down in the future in ToF, especially when we'll have explored the whole map, but it's still a very good headstart that makes me not feel like I need to spend money to have a strong team/weapon set.

EDIT TO ADD: I FORGOT to mention. Genshin Impact allows A LOT of opportunities in the game to get their platinum currency. This is why I don't have too big of an issue with the monetization for this game. Also, I don't understand the fuss with the currencies, either. The glitter you get as compensation for a wish that you can spend on additional wishes or in-game items. I don't know man. People are wrong about Genshin, but they aren't completely wrong.
Genshin Impact is a great game. I got it on launch. I am also someone with past trauma that makes me prone to addiction, so I speak out against gacha games. I say all this to say this: Genshin Impact is not as bad as people make it seem. I've personally only spent money on the battle passes (which are fine; its basically a subscription fee on a free game) and in the past I've bought the gems when they were double the value (only one purchase each), and I've also purchased the 30 day currency pass when I played it every day.
In total, I've spent maybe a bit over $100. The game is free but it's a live service game. I took a break and just came back, so I have Inazuma and Sumeru to explore now. I plan on purchasing just the battle pass this go round. If people do not hold themselves accountable and are prone to addiction as I hold myself accountable, then they shouldn't play these games. The problem is the internet in general allows so many people to come together and no one resolves their past trauma. They just compartmentalize and cope through para-social relationships on the internet, and they seek happiness through an addiction, which can be anything honestly. The chances of you reading this comment are slim, but I think Genshin's pay model is a bit predatory (I prefer Apex's model over everything) but it's not as bad as it can be. Diablo: Immortal is a sin and shouldn't exist.

Clearly showed through the video that he doesn't even play the game and doesn't understand anything about it, even the currencies or how things work. You can play this game from start to finish, experience the whole story and content without spending anything at all. As a F2P player you can get ALL the characters as long as you have some basic understanding about the rates and pity system, and you can GUARANTEE you get them. All you need to do is play the game, be engaged in it and its easy. People spending w.e they want on other gacha, is a THEM problem, its their personal issue. No one is forcing them, they made the choice.
THERE IS NO PVP in Genshin, there is no P2W content. Meaning spending is purely a choice to advance in collecting w.e you want, but not to progress in the game...
This is the same as blaming a cliff. Sure, the scenery looks nice and tempting to glide down. But if you chose to do so without proper gear (spending money when you shouldn't), and you die, its on you. People falling for temptation is not the fault of the cliff/scenery...Even if said cliff for some reason was created by a human with malice.

    Genshin is
    1) pve and single player with no leaderboards or pvp so having good characters doesn't matter.
    2) I can get an average of about 70-80 pulls every patch. 75-80 is the soft pity(20 percent chance every pull, so 99 percent of 5 stars come here). 90 is hard pity. So i basically get 1 5 star every patch.
    3) There are 4 star characters wayyyy better than 5 star characters in the game. For example Bennett, xingqui, xiangling, sucrose is a team made up of only 4 stars which were released with the game and everyone has them. This team is one of the best teams in genshin. It's called the national team because everyone can use it.
    4) Artifacts are based on luck since you farm them. Whales can technically farm more but not by a significant Margin. There is a time gated system called resin but whales are also gated from buying too many of them and it's honestly more of a convenience thing than an advantage thing.

For me as Genshin player and also played a lot of not p2w games such as PoE, I think the core of the video is true and realistic. In comparison, Genshin does have those ideas implemented to trick players to spend money, nothing doubt about it, this significants includes, resin(time gated farming), Event Banner (time limited character pull), Promoting social media (which is happening), Primogems to Pulling conversion (you look at you have thousands of primos but just realize it just worth a few pulls), dailies (to keep players log in), skins (slowly being published), constellations (more opportunies to buy something) and general gambling style of GETTing stuff. META change is also happening (explain later).
Luckly, the better thing of Genshin is that the system designed in a much softer approaches, this including: no leader board (softer competitive aggression), Two step conversions currency (easier to calculated), Actual Gameplay to get rewards (exploration stories and puzzle, you may not like it, but you actually will engage the gameplays), Much less noticable shop menu, Promoting selling through stories (actually nice character designs and background lores), actually nicely designed stories, music, exploration areas (can see some affords not being "cheap") and much softer META changes. To expend on META changes, I would say there is META changes (some environemnts of abyss promote pryo team and some promote cryo teams), BUT it is soften because 1. GENSHIN has some baseline flexible characters that will provide baseline solutions to META and they are easy to obtain (Xingqiu Xiangling Bennett etc.). I also believe this is design on purpose to have those characters as a global solutions and also provide baseline structure of any teams. 2. the META change is not unsolvable by countered characteres or weaker characters.
I also think GENSHIN is not design the way of MMO, but some people might tricked by the dailies to log in everyday and feel bored quickly. I am glad there is not significant endgame since a MMO style of endgame required constant difficulty increase paired with increasing rewards feedback, which I believe increases the chance of powercreep and aggressive META switches. I think Genshin is fine as long as the big patch coming consistantly and even more frequently. We really should treat it as a singleplayer games and I do think the contents of Genshin is not "cheap" as some people think.
Add to endgame, I think a traditional risk-reward endgame is really a cheap design if not designed well (there are some well-designed endgames but a lot of endgame for Gatcha games are very "cheap"). Imaging, Genshin could put a PVP as a endgame, however, how is the affords to compared with design a whole new area music and stories? Some people might be less interested in stories and explorations, but it does not mean it is cheap to do. You can put a low effort endgame system to provide so-called replayabilities or you could design a new concept in visuals and areas constantly. I am not sure which one people really want.
However, in the end, I want to say... probably humanity needs to envolve somehow. I do not really like the GATCHA aspect of Genshin in any direction. I hope there is a solution to the Gambling situation in the games. Remember companies still need to survive by competing with others, they need to make money for it and this is the core reason why more company considers this type of monetization, because people actually spend money for it.............. I bought some pulles myself so I cannot judge too much on others, but I recommend to treat GATCHA as a fix investment buying. Always count the worse case cost and calculated how much it should spend (one character 4 packs of money (if no pity saves)). and see if it is worth it or you can afford it. Remember it is the REAL price of a character, any extra left is just a bonus of chance nothing more.

With such cost, despite China have the cheapest art assets and concept art workforce, mihoyo till manage to make a game that 10 years behind the gaming industry.
The story telling and quest designs also super lazy. They have more than 5 years time and still screwed up this part.
Unity engine is known for easy to use, but the game still have so many optimize issues.
Second, the reason Genshin impact is cash grabs.
The game is a gatcha game.
Most f2p game can make profit by selling skins or by selling game subscription and still being free (such as eve online)
Gacha mechanic is the manifest of incapability of game balancing. It shows a game designer unable to design a level to be fun and challenge and force you to use money to be the difficulty slider.
Finally, art is object opinion, BUT LAZY ART IS ALWAYS BAD. Genshin impact is one of them.
It's like you looking at some poorly made NFT art, anyone with braincell knows it's bad.
Good game will stick within your mind for years, but playing geshin will only makes you regret, regret why wasting life on sush repetitive, soulless game.

just a correction to not spread misinformation, in genshin u have like 2 currencies that are needed for getting new characters aka gacha for characters ... its Genesis crystals and Primogems ... now Genesis Cristals u can obtain by only buying them with real money ..u can convert them into
    160 Genesis Crystals = 160 Primogems = 1 Pull, 10 pulls u get guarantied 4 star or more if u are lucky
    - Promogems (u get Promogems from playing the game u dont have to buy necessary, just save up)
    - character level up material bundles (u dont really need this u can just farm the stuff)
    - buy skins (if u want lol)
    - refill stamina or "resin" as its called in genshin (if u are a meta player, and want to level up in the speed of light lol, u dont need this to beat the game tho)
Now Primogems u can convert into 2 types (Intertwined Fate and Acquaint Fate) for gachaing in a few different banners .. the thing is tho u dont have to convert Primogems into this 2 ... every roll in banners costs u the same amount of Primogems aka 160 Primogems for 1 roll ... why u still need to know about Intertwined Fate and Acquaint Fate? is because the game rewards u with this currencies from events you take part in or from exploring the world or leveling up characters ... so its good to know about them cause they can be used to gacha but they limit ur choices in banners to gacha on, they still free so thats nice
Now Promogems u can also obtain by playing the game, exploring, doing events and stuff, usually they are not much but u still can get many characters ... its just if u want to get the character u want u need to save up and usually u can get a 5 star every update or more if u are lucky more then one 5 star character
After u have thrown the Promogems u collected into the banners aka gachaed them away u get Stardust as an exchange ... there are 2 types: Stardust from 3 star stuff u gacha and Stardust from 4 and 5 star stuff u gacha, u can only use this Stardusts in the shop, sometimes u can even buy more Fates with them to gacha a few more times or even be able to buy 4 star characters from the shop ... now u dont really need anything from the shop ..there is nothing very important u really need from it ... i sometimes use the Stardust i collected to buy that mob drop i am to lazy to collect lol ... so in conclusion wat the streamer said about the game having many currencies i would say there is only the mentioned 2 Genesis Crystals and Primogems ...u dont have to buy any of them and still have a pretty bad ass account ..its a matter of patience with commitment ..everything u need to play the game u can collect and save up for ... all the other currencies u might see in the game like Mora (gold coins) or whatever else, u can collect all of this via playing the game ... if u run out of the other currencies u just farm for it 2 days in a row aka use ur resin for that ...next time u run out of level up material well guess what u farm that the next 2 days ... u log in, spend ur resin for the materials u need, maybe explore a bit collet a few Primogems, do ur daily 4 commissions that dont last 3 mins and log out lol ... i have to say tho this is not a game for people with gambling problems or impatient people that cant wait for their resin to refill. If u played the game for a while its easy to get into the groove where u have the downtime of an update, u finished most of that updates content and u are just log in to farm and save for the next character so when u get the character u can level them immediately without needing to buy extra stuff ... i didnt intent to make this an essay but here i am lol ..well .... fellow Genshin players correct me if i messed up with the info, i shall correct it later ... just play the game kid sir and see for urself

  • @TheZeroteck
    @TheZeroteck 2 роки тому +4

Genshin is a bad example for this, all you can buy with the premium currency are a few skins which theres has only been 6 released in almost 2 years beeing out and 3 of them were freebies from events, and a few bundles that dont give you anything special aside from a few resources. The other stuff he mentioned about currencies is false and stupid. So all you really do with those is exchange them for primogems which is used for pulls/wishes but are obtainable just by playing the game. You can clear any content in the game as a f2p, there is no pvp and you can get characters you really want just by playing and saving for them. Theres not even a need to spend money it just takes a little longer to get there. The Main issue i see is that there to many greedy morons that want every single character and want to max out everything, even though its completely unnecessary. And sure Fomo is a thing, but thats about it. Its way more f2p friendly and the gacha is a lot fairer than in most games of the genre. These types of games are meant to be played for a long period of time and making decisions on what you really want or need, you have to be selective about that, so dont expect to get everything thrown in your way. You can only play 4 characters at a time anyways, 8 if we talk about Abyss the basically hardest content in the game, theres not even a need to get that many characters.

The thing I dislike the most about the outlook and analyses of mobile/gacha games, as much as I agree that they stink and it sucks how they're the future...
Indie games and big single player games without monetisation exist. You say you feel privileged to play video games from 1990 to 2010, but we still have games like Xenoblade, BotD, Elden Ring, Dead Cells, Terraria, so on and so forth being released, as Asmon said "they will always exist".
I think the overarching commonality where the monetization does become an issue, however, is anything PvP-related, with the half-exception of fighting games. I would personally be more attentive and anal about my children playing anything PvP or MMORPG F2P, as the incentive to buy skins and whatnot would likely develop in them a habit.
But... to conclude, I think the blame is largely based on F2P games, with exceptions such as the sports 2K games. Generally, parents wouldn't want their children to pay money, so they would naturally incline towards Free games, proven with myself as a Grand Chase and Elsword player from back in the day. It would likely be more financially stable to just buy the "big massive content but $60 game" while also warning and teaching the dangers of playing with probabilities.

Genshin Gacha implementation is pretty tame compare to other game. You can legit can get away with only using free roll, i know i did. You only roll because you want the character and the weapons. Sure you can say its "P2W" but it kinda doesn't. Sure whales can clear harder content easier, but you can also do it with strategies and decent artifact. You also get the benefit from the whale since you clear content faster, and there is not really an incentive for you to be better than anybody, since there is no leaderboard or ranking system. Its honestly a pretty healthy system that i wouldn't mind spending a couple of bucks for a limited character banner (maybe, since i would like to keep myself f2p)

and something that ties into this is games with like cosmetic rewards or other rewards for high lvl pvp/pve
being able to distinguish urself in a game for working hard and being better is a good feeling, anyone who doesnt admit that is in denial, and even casuals like im not saying that its just cool to flex on casuals but some people get excited and dream of having those things themselves and it facilitates a goal for the next generation of high level gamers

Aside from all the small problems that can be discussed about the game, if the actual question is “is genshin pay to win?” Than no. And it doesn’t crop whit all the others “fake f2p” because the values system works as a double compensation (there are 2 values to pool because there are 2 banners, one that is constant and 2 that cycle every 2 weeks whit higher possibilities for certain characters) so when you pool from one of this, everything that you pool gives you the single reward and a certain amount of another value that you can accumulate to exchange them back in wishes value, and then there is the standard value that you use in the game. Other than this you can find a lot of the value to gain wishes just by doing things in game, be it exploration, combat, challenges or leveling up, and there is always at least 2 events goong on that gives you that value, and finally, whit periodical redeem codes because of web events or updates and a pity system that is easy to manipulate.
Whit all this things mixed together whit a normal amount of farming and attention that is even less than normal for this type of game, at the end of the week/month you’ll have enough of wishes that you need to have all that you want when it comes about in the cycling banner whit the augmented probabilities. All of this obviously implies the fact that the gatcha is still gatcha and that one must not just throw wishes whitout thinking, but still, the game doesn’t FEELS like you NEED to have certain characters or weapons, and you most certainly doesn’t actually have to.
I think that the great thing of this game as a gatcha is that if you pool, you do it because of an idea of “theory crafting” or just because you like the character, as you encounter and know all of them in game, and not because you fell you need this or that character otherwise you wont probably be able to beat some of the content.

Been playing idle angels for 3.5+ years and and attack on time for 2+. the reason i play these is because you can actually get a decent amount of the resources for getting and leveling characters if you know how to play the game. Alot of gacha's will hardly give you any pulls after the few you get at the start to draw you in to buying more. i usually ever pay for in games is cosmetics.

To be honest picking Genshin to make and example for bad Gacha is done soley for the clicks, not for the argument.
Genshin does give you the opportunity to spend near infinite money on somewhat randomized content and considering the people vunerable for these kind of stuff it sure deservse all the criticism.
However Genshin is also always fair/transparent in what you buy and what it will or will not get you. While there are a handfull of currencys they all serve a clear purpose other than clouding your vision, and on Pulling the game actively removes them for you. You buy 1600 > you do a 10-pull. No other steps involved. So any complaining beyond that is just overdramatic misinformation for uneducated viewers tbh.
Also noone I know treats the gacha as... gacha beyond the 4*.
5* comes with pitty and you better win that coinflip, thats it.
So yeah, Genshin is pretty bad example to pick when talking about predatory gacha games, quite the opposite actually.
And this guy Atrioc, clearly never played it.

If you get really invested in the game you are more likely to spend money on it.

So a few things; yes genshin is for clicks, but because it is popular it is still by far the best choice to illustrate some points even if not applicable to a problematic extent within genshin itself.
If you played at launch, you would have seen many many people didnt understand pity, currencies(pulling wrong banner or farming wrong things), didnt understand how banners work etc-- and so just by existing, (even with good informative in game text) these systems brought up in the video did start off at the expense of random new people to the genre. The community itself is what quickly educated the general player base to see the do-s and don't-s of gacha and reveal how genshin does better than others/what to expect/how to not play yourself.
As a general education on gacha-design this video does its job. It initially keeps to one well known and documented example for viewer retention and shows where several gacha-techniques are applied. The video is not to discuss to what extent in the game the gacha-techniques are/aren't problematic as that is something specific to each game and the video is teaching the general ideas.

actually new 5 stars in genshin aren´t op, but the reason for this is, that they release a lot less characters in genshin then other gachas, therefor they make a lot of money with reruns, making newer units stronger then older ones would mean that people would never pick up rerun character and genshin tries to get new whales all the time. So what they do is change the endgame to always favour the curent banner character that way you always want the character on banner, but on neutral space most limited 5 star are close to each other on power level

  • @calethos
    @calethos 2 роки тому +4

Genshin is not pay to win. It can be expensive to get the units you want because you are gambling on getting the unit before the pity (I hate this word) kicks in. In the 2 years it has been around, the power creep has been kept to a bare minimum.
The endgame content can be completed in 15 to 45 minutes every 2 weeks, and while it favors the new units, it's not so skewed that older units can't compete. A buff for the new unit in endgame is also a buff for older units that utilize similar mechanics.
There are no leaderboards or ladders. You're only competing with yourself. Every unit is acceptably playable and can clear endgame content if you're willing to invest your time (not money but time) into the character. Free-to-play streamer Enviosity consistently fully clears endgame with the 7 characters the game gives you for free.
Genshin is pay for options in how you play, not pay to win.

Which is a bad take. The thing with gambling is that it’s not only limited to spending money to win money. It’s spending money AT THE CHANCE of receiving SOMETHING OF VALUE TO THE INDIVIDUAL in return. That is the true definition of gambling. The biggest keyword here is CHANCE.
I play gachas too and genuinely enjoy it but let’s pretend it’s not gambling. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, you can be sure it’s a duck.

As a long time gacha game player, I can say this guy has no idea what difference between every gacha game and how it can make player (especially f2p) plan ahead should they play the game or not.
When we talk about gacha games, whale or not, first we look at how pity system works. many says these kind of games has no "price tag" on what you buy, hence its gamble and cost you much more than you'd expected which I quite disagree on this because most of player who (decided) to play these games took "pity system" as "price tag" for each character/weapon they aim for. to be honest I find it in gray area of gambling because its not like those casino gamble that never guarantee you anything and it never ends... pity system clearly tell you reward is there once you hit XXX rolls which can be translate to "how much $$$ you gonna spend". you just need math and calculator to check how deep money sink you're into.
of course, a single character/weapon that might cost 350$ (maximum pity+no luck, 350$x7 if maxout character in genshin for example) can be super F-ing expensive for so many people. yet it doesn't mean you're going to pay at maximum price all the time because you can be "lucky" sometime, especially genshin had hidden gacha mechanic that after 70 rolls (out of 90 pity) you can get SSR much easier each roll until you hit first pity which will 50/50 between banner SSR/non-banner SSR. If you lose 50/50 the first time ? next time you're guaranteed to get that banner SSR within next 90 rolls (70 rolls+ more chance mechanic still works). with these in mind you can see the ceiling of money you gonna spend there so that you can manage your free resources (which you get in game) and your wallet to plan ahead of whats coming to you (skip it or all-in)
Fate Grand Order (aka. the endless pit) never had pity/ceiling system until recently update. the newly added system aren't kind to your wallet either, as you will get only 1 SSR guaranteed within 300+30 rolls (900 gems which is 500$+ at maximum to get single character (need 5 to maxout) but guess what, if you can get ONE with in 300+30 rolls the pity system will be "REMOVED" entirely from that banner. which means whale who want to max out (need 4 more) will have to pull a non-ceiling/pity until they can get all of them. unlike Genshin, FGO pity also aren't carry-over to next banner so you have to do 300+30 within banner time period as well or else it will be removed entirely once next banner hit. F2P will also took at least half year to collect 900 gems. only good thing from this game gacha is that SSR rate is 1% which is still sucks (most of games these days including Genshin is 0.5%)
Some other gacha games approach with different pity system. for example, giving you gacha token for each roll you did (no matter you get SSR or not) and you can "exchange" for banner SSR at shop but you'll be need like 100-300 tokens to exchange for one (rate are different between games). although these type of pity system might look safer but actually the "price tag" for 300 rolls is much more expansive that any games that has limit 70-90 pity rolls if at worst case you don't get any SSR within that 300.
afaik, Tower of Fantasy took all these pity system into their game. they have ceiling pity, token pity, non-remove pity if hit SSR and so on and use them to appeal for drawing in gacha game players. doesn't matter if the game is good or bad. if pity system is "kind" enough, gacha game players will at least try it for sure.
the difference of these gacha pity system will effects f2p players as well as they can manage and plan for their limitted resources. If the game is "kind" enough with pity system and given f2p many resources for gacha during their playtime, it will able to drawn more f2p players to try the game which some might turn to dolphin, whale and so on.
In opposite, if the game took monetization super seriously (ahem, Diablo Immortal) and make high wall between f2p players and whales.... hell no, f2p or even whales (except for few one) from other games aren't going to play (or pay) it anyway just by hearing how bad monetization and pity system it goes.

U notice the pity system is part of the predatory system right? By having a pity system, it forces players to spend to reach that pity system. It gives players the feeling that they aren’t wasting anything bcuz the pity system saves them. It gives players the relief with that pity system getting them to play more and pay a certain amount each time. Genshin is worse even with the pity system bcuz they barely give u gems. Genshin is infamous for the terrible anniversary gifts. I would rather play a game like Dragon Ball Dokkan bcuz they give u more than 200 pulls a month for free, compared to Genshin where u have to “save up”. Ur already trapped in the mind break.

I'm agree with you that pity system is kinda FOMO for player who choose to pay. however I'm quite disagree on "forces player to pay" because that depends on how bad the wall between p2w and whale which difference in each games. If the game if f2p friendly they actually don't even need SSR to clear content (not talking about convenient or QoL). but in a game that powercreeps are heavy, or having PVP the FOMO for getting meta characters are strong and that will be like everything you said. I'm even skipped some characters on Genshin until they rerun (I'll just pull for my damn perfectionist collect-them-all sake if I have enough primogems at the time) because I can handle the content just fine without them. powercreep aren't change meta that fast in this one year.
I'm not defending Genshin or anything. I'm just talking about my experience playing many gacha games. I did main FGO while play Princess Connect:Redive, Granblue Fantasy, lot of DMM browser gacha games since before Genshin came out.
I play two accounts in Genshin (whale and f2p) and I can say Genshin is very f2p friendly that even meta support are full of SR instead of SSR. and that was enough to clear hardest content as spiral abyss. In FGO if you don't have god tier SSR caster (waver, arthuria, skadi) you're guaranteed to have horrible grind experiences in all content. whether its story progressing, even farming, mats grinding they'll took you more time and more sanity from you.

Honestly genshin is very F2P friendly, there's no leaderboards or PvP, you can still play the game with the free starter characters if u want.
I've been playing since launch and never needed to spend any money unless some character skin comes out in the future that I want.
The main reason why people spend money is cuz Hoyoverse makes the 5-star characters appealing with character trailers/demos and a story quest which often makes the character more likeable to people.
Really the biggest thing you gotta spend on in genshin is your time
