- Hi thinking about adding apple carplay or android auto to your BMW f series?
Do it, it's easy, I will babysit you step by step in a detailed fashion. If I did it, you could do it.
The kit I used is roadtop, I got it on amazon, let me know if you want a link.
The kit has worked for me almost all the time, only a few times was it glitchy but a restart normally solves the issue.
What I like about this road top kit is that it is the cheapest option that I could find, while other brands are selling the same device for over $600.
The install could take 1.5hrs to 3.5hrs depending on how old your f series is, (newer models can skip a few really fussy steps) and how fluent you are with retrofitting cars. But I promised if you are someone that even took an interest or heard of that you can add carplay to your car, chances are you can probably do it, it's easier than you think, let me walk you through.

Hey! I am planning on doing this in my F30. You said that the older models need an extension for the microphone. Do you know which models will need that and which wont?

Hey Brandon, two questions..
1” Did you need to plug your AUX cable into your under arm rest aux port?
2” Did you need to use the microphone extension?
I installed this today on my 2011 F30 without using the aux or the mic. I have Bluetooth connections to both the Road Top CarPlay and the car’s Bluetooth. When I make a call I need to ensure the phone is using the car’s Bluetooth else I will have no sound. If it becomes a pain I can just install the mic and the aux
@@alvarezcristian6504 Hi Alvarez, sorry for the late reply. For my model, I didn't need both. But I still need to take apart the glove box since I have a large car computer unit.
What about reverse camera ?? have an issue ... when reverse is on no picture on monitor ,any ideas ?
Hi, this video solved my problem with audio, I was in a rush when I installed my screen and I didn't take off the two green wires and plug them in the new adapter 🫣

Billy, Great Video. Super helpful. I did the installation for my 2014 BMW 320i. Everything seems to be functioning except for the sound. Any suggestions?
You connected the aux cord? Did you switch the car’s input to aux?
Great video! Im on the edge of doing this. Just curious does the sound quality get worse when playing music or is it the same ? Only thing im on the edge about.
Hi Andrew the sound quality actually gets better because the airplay device has something sound processing and amplifying functions, it allows you to change more advanced settings than what your stock unit allows you or is capable of doing. However it's just not reliable and consistent, every once in a while the sound will cut out for a second and the come back in. Not a huge deal for me, but I'm telling you that it's not perfect and has kinks every once in a while to be honest
I tried installing a new screen with the built in carplay in my f26 and it trip a fuse as I was pushing the radio back inside. There was no space back there and I think some wires got touched and that's what caused the radio fuse to break.
Good thing the fuse can be easily replaced, I’m not familiar with x4s, but there isn’t much room for wires behind the head units…

Hi, how did you get that square harness connector behind headunit? It’s blocking my headunit going back in there.
It was blocking mine for a long time as well. You have to keep trying to get it out of the way. In the right position, everything will fit

I am not %100 sure but I don’t think you will need one, 2015 is pretty new.

The part at 9:05 my female to male harness won’t go all the way in and allow me to lock in place any suggestions ?
The lever, is it pulled or reseted?

Then push the lever back in, it should lock and secure the connectors
I am trying to attach both ends together but when I push the male into the female end the lever won’t lock
