- The video was going to just focus on the Wesker fight and Jill mind control, but I came up with the RE3 portion later and added it in to make it over ten minutes so I could add an extra ad at the end as well. Yes, I'm slowly becoming that guy...
Also, this is the first video available a day early to $10 Patrons. Only one person has access to this reward, but you could to if you oh my god im turning into ricegum...

Alright, look. The comparison to Captain Cold and Mr. Freeze isn't me thinking they're the same character. The comparison is Wentworth Miller to a man of Arnold/Chris' physique. This is not difficult.
I think that would be obvious. But, judging by the fact you had to say this tells me we have people in these comments without a single solitary brain cell.

Well they didn’t use that scene but they sure as shit used that fight scene between sheva, Chris and wesker. And somehow still butchered that
Too busy fondling the directors rocks for that.

Jill, Rebecca, Claire, Ada, Sheva, Sherry. A ton of badass women to choose from and Anderson has to make a cardboard cutout of someone that wasn't in the game, the star of the series.

Of course because he needed one female character to take all the glory because that is who his wife is playing. It's kind of sweet
Tony Zan still doesnt have to make the movies suck so hard.
Jill's my favorite RE character. It pisses me off how they portray her in the movies along with everyone else. Alice is a fucking awful character.
@@megaman15ish Alice is like he said arguably the definitive Mary Sue in film.
If Anderson was that desperate for his wife to be the star of the whole movie franchise, then couldn’t he have cast her as Jill at least and expand the story from there?

He at least rebooted death race with a nice remake, tho the 2nd movie wasn't done by him, 3 was just a shit show, and 4 was decent but not anything spectacular. The movies are good on their own but they did do the RE game characters wrong
she wasn't married to Paul when they start the movies maybe a couple films after that
Not really she wasn't married to him for the first few. Still bad movies give them to talented directors and the ones that like the games. You know we need scary action movies or ones that make sense.

“because he wanted to make his waifu look good” hahahahahhahahaha it’s actually so sad that the only reason these movies were the way they were was because of that.
kinokohiou Milla Jovovich was a terrible idea for these movies. They should’ve done them without her and her dumbass director husband.
Spenser Farman Alternatively, if Anderson was that desperate for Mila Jovovich to be the star, couldn’t he have cast her as Jill Valentine herself?
@@mechadoggy Yeah. I mean make her one of the actual resident evil characters or just don't have her as the main protagonist. That would at least give the movie more of a proper plot.

If I remember correctly, leon had a bad breakup with his girlfriend Alice before re2 so he got drunk on his way to raccoon city. That's the ONLY time she was mentioned in all of the re games. And Paul ws Anderson made this blink and youl miss it character the main one of the series.
If they ever make her a thing, then only as a mutated boss people will go full overkill over.
@@kurotanbo4411 There was an Alice in the original games??
I remember reading somewhere that Anderson has never played any of the games; when he's brainstorming ideas for the movies, he'll watch someone else play them and take notes on what he thinks looks cool.

"WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?"
Probably the best line in all franchise.
Ada putting Leon's hand away from her leg makes you instantly understand how inaccurate these movies are to the games.
I think what makes it inaccurate is Leon actually putting his hand on Ada. Maybe off the games Leon would go out with a woman, but inside the games/movies he wouldn't go for one even if she was naked in front of him, and he has shown that lol
0:31
Ignacio Ulla How about a sauce for the naked woman Leon wouldn't go for?
True in the games its mostly Ada that goes for Leon, second game Ada kiss Leon, forth game Ada flirts with Leon. If anyone would put their hand on the other person it would be Ada putting her hand on Leons legg.
Straight up. Leon's and Ada's relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the RE series. It's obvious that they care for each other, but both are married to their respective jobs, so it's probably never going to work no matter how much either of them want it to. The fact that both of them are subtle about their true feelings for each other makes the whole thing wonderfully complex.
And then the movies had to go do whatever the hell that was supposed to be.
"Wesker get killed by a door"
The whole way through The Final Chapter I was waiting for Wesker to kick some ass... and then that happened. My jaw actually dropped.
I actually burst in laughter, and tears of dreadful cringe.
IKR, it makes how Wesker went out at the end of RE Afterlife look badass by comparison. Never thought I’d say that.
That's not really the way i wanted my fav character to die... but he did...
Same dude
The Final Chapter is a trainwreck of a movie. It completely trashed what little continuity the movies had in the first ten minutes and proceeded to be a rollercoaster ride of "What the fuck should we do here" and none of it made any sort of sense at all. The only amazing thing about that movie was that CAPCOM allowed it to be made.
these were the movies that made me hate the “mary sue” character trope. Damn captain marvel, damn Rey Skywalker, Alice was the original mary sue I despised

The only good Resident evil movies are the CGI Resident evil movies.
Damnation sucks, though. (Really? Lickers working with Leon?)
@@Skrilltrap They weren't working with Leon. Did you pay attention to the actual plot?
@@luisman369 Did you even watch Damnation? Leon and the Lickers fight Mr X.
@@Skrilltrap No, I'm blind. Of course I watched the movie. I have watched all three numerous times. But the Lickers were not "working" with Leon, they were being controlled by someone who had a dominant species plaga (Buddy), which is something that is canon since RE4, with Saddler as an example. Buddy even attacked Leon ferociously with the Lickers minutes before the Tyrants appeared and shit hit the fan for both. So I don't get what's your point, nor do I get why it sucked. In fact, it was THE best plot twist, and it was quite coherent with the lore.
Degeneration, you'd have a point there because it's a very awkwardly animated movie
If they were smart, the movies should have been broken into “chapters” with each movie focusing on a main survivor (I.e. Jill, Chris, Claire, Leon, etc). Then for a climatic ending, make the finale two movies itself. Would have been far more successful and fitting with the source material.

My brother loves Leon Kennedy from the video games, and he hates how he was depicted in Resident Evil: Retribution. If anything, he hates the movies and prefers the games, a decision I support.
I agree with your brother. After I got into RE and rewatched that movie, I was beyond insulted over how my man Leon was portrayed.
@@blackstarhorizon I never watched it and don't care to but how did they portray Leon?
@@rieffelliot1984 Sorry, I don't remember details, but what I remember is that this version was not like how he behaves, and personality wise as well was also unfamiliar. And his looks...I don't want to talk about that
BlackstarHorizon anddd he was not as badass as he is in the game which infuriates me!!
He was awfully cast.
What really makes these movies so awful for me is the inclusion of Alice. Why did they feel the need to throw in a superpowered character like hers in the story? With the obvious exception of Jake from RE6, all of the heroes (to my knowledge) were just regular officers and soldiers fighting against the mutated undead. With a character like Alice in the fray, any sense of tension is lost and no stakes can be raised since Alice can easily take care of the vast majority of threats that anyone else would struggle against.
Also, Chris punching that giant boulder in RE5 never got adapted in the films, so I'm hella pissed.
To be fair, Leon and his antics in 4 did a similar job of being so ridiculous and over the top that it kind of kills the tension in cutscenes. Luckily it has tension in atmosphere and enough Capcom charm to sell how badass Leon is.
@murat balamsa I think the only reason Jake is the exception to the rule is the fact that he is the son of Wesker.
tbh jake is allowed as he has a reason to be their as he was just an experiment to see how a offspring would be when he had the virus in his body. alice is just forced in like really REALLY hundreds of clones of her even a child version and only one is able to live so long
Because its his wife and the only reason he keept pumping movies is to keep his wife relevent in Hollywood.
@Zero Attention Gaming The things Leon does in 4 does not match the shit he pulls in the CGI movies. In Degeneration, he got smacked by a tyrant, flung 20ft, slid, hit his head and still recovered fast enough to perform parkour. Dude is almost inhuman lol. No wonder he never ran into Wesker.

Shoulda picked Lucy Lu or similar.
@@sparkshot true
ada is my favorite character, even if she was asian in the movies, her personality couldn't have been more far distant from what it is in the games
The problem for me isn’t that Anderson chose his wife as the main actress. Sure, she doesn’t have the best acting chops but really, video game movies aren’t exactly known for the acting, especially with the poor voice acting of the original game.
The problem is that he basicslly created a flawless character, thus removing any of the suspension by eliminating the risk of a character dying from the mind of the viewer.
The main solution would have been to have Jovovich play someone like Jill Valentine, with Eric Mabius playing Chris Redfield and the story being a combination of both scenarios from the first game were both characters make it together to the mansion were they get separated at times.

Alice could at least take some punishment, all Rey got was a little scratch on her arm.
"And this film had a budget of 60 million dollars."
What makes this statement even sadder is the fact that they had almost 10 million more than the COMBINED budget of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi
You can't compare the value of a dollar in the 80's, to its value nowadays. That's not how it works. All in all, these movies are utter shit. In that, I agree.
you forgot to take inflation into account, just ESB's budget back then is around 55 million nowadays, and RotJ's is around 82 million today.

probably in crack.
I'd like to say I enjoyed the first film. It felt like it was a "what if" scenario of Resident Evil without the main characters. It had barely any connection to the series beyond the creatures so it had more freedom to do what it wanted.
But when the sequel came out it was all about "Hey, can my wife top all the characters in the series? Fuck yeah she can 'cause I'm gonna make her way more competent than those losers!"
It became a pissing match. Some sort of fetish video for the director to watch. They probably went home after the film launched and fucked to the movie.
They weren’t married. They weren’t even together. The first RE after the wedding was RE4.
@@philipflowers2363 I'm not going to google that just to confirm it, but I don't believe you. Also weddings usually come long after dating. Long after proposal most of the time, too.
Regardless, even if that wasn't the case, which it was, the films are hot garbage that turn a single fan-fiction non-canon character into this 'super badass' that no one else can seem to top. Every instance of another character from the games showing up, villain or hero, they're incompetent. They're turned into one-note characters that you have no reason to give a fuck about.
Every inch of these films after the first is just masturbatory material for shitty writing and even shittier directing.

As for his RE movies maybe it would have been better to have rotating protagonists for the films or just leave out the characters from the games rather than have them shafted for Alice.
The first MK movies works as this cheesy, martial arts movie. It keeps things simple, following around a handful of main characters with others from the series merely being fighters for our heroes to overcome. I don't know why Street Fighter didn't do the same. Especially since they had little time to write the script and Capcom insisting that every character be in the movie. A Martial Arts tournament would've worked just fine for that movie, plus have Raul Julia being the best Bison around, implying there's more at stake than a simple contest of kicks.

Milla said herself that the RE Reboot will not be as successful as her movie. Maybe so but it will most likely stick to the actual source material
@@TheMattypoo21 god she is really self absorbed, if the RE reboot follows the games better, i'd say we keep on getting tickets until the reboot makes more than that shitfest she calls a "movie" lol
It's amazing how they managed to blow Resident Evil and make it worse. Ok, I like the series but, we have to admit, it could be better written and planned out. It did all start from a game that was kind of, maybe, supposed to be a remake of an old movie-based NES game, Sweet Home. But man, to see things from the game taken and made worse. How do you do that? The source material was right there. It's like failing an open-book test.
The basic idea and setting was inspired by sweet home. That's essentially it. I don't really see your point.
@@bigdaddykratos5514 I think his point is the writing of the movies is worse than the games when the games were right there to take from
The games wouldn't be good movies on source material.
felman87 the games are meant to mimic B-movies, that’s why you have some over the top elements and cliches as that’s what’d you see in B-movies.
Actually, open-book tests are usually harder because the questions are usually loosely based on source material(!?!) i.e. the books themselves.
I still think Silent Hill is the best movie adaption of a game.
They do make some decent nods to the game at least even if they follow their own distinct plot and all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yes it was
@AngryReacts OnlyPlease Weren't the Nurses out of place as well? At least design wise anyway. That belonged to James. Great scene though
@AngryReacts OnlyPlease Yeah as I said design wise it belonged to James. Every other Nurses in other games(Except the PSP game or homecoming) had their own design if I recall correctly.
Guys pyramid head's presence in the movie actually makes sense. In SH2, he serves as a punished/or executioner for James' sins, basically all the guilt eating him materializing into a monster figure. In the movie he serves as Alessa's executioner. In a way, their purpose is still the same, just twisted to fit a more literal context.
Plus Pyramid head isn't just exclusive to James. He appeared in Homecoming too

There pretty good if u pretend they aren't resident evil movies
@@jayleensmith1572 I get what you mean, but nah. Those movies are not even coherent inside their own plot. Some of their characters don't have solid motives for their actions (Chris for example). As a huge fan of the movies growing up. I needed to hear this, a wake up call to stop falling for these movies. Although I really still enjoy RE1 the movie, I think that is still great
agreed, I grew up watching these movies and yes the first one was the only decent movie of the franchise but they’re all still so much fun to me, except for after life that was literal shit that needs to be flushed down the toilet for good
For me the best one is the second one because the casting of Sienna Guillory as Jill is amazing. If she was the protagonist in all the movies, they would have been 10000x better.

Alice has to be one of the most boring and uninteresting protagonists I think I've ever seen. Even ignoring her Mary-Sue attributes Alice personality wise is a blank slate with no clear motivation or clear goal. Throughout the films we never get to learn anything substantial about Alice on any personal level. More then likely because Paul had no idea what to give her. We never learn about say her likes and disinterests. If she's shy or quite a direct kind of person. How she is around others? What are her hopes, dreams or fears? We get nothing of any substance of any sort for us to latch onto to actually give a rats ass about. We're told to care about her simply because the films tell us to. Any possible character development that could have been done with Alice is instead replaced with mindless bombastic action scenes with her jumping, shooting, punching and kicking shit in slow motion. Who the fuck cares? What reason is there for me to care about a girl that's as powerful as a god that can never fail that's about as interesting as wet fence paint? Action means nothing if there's not a reason to care for those involved.
Alice was at her best in the first movie when she was a blank slate that was slowly starting to come to her senses and was on the same level of everyone else when it came to combat prowess. But then Paul was given the keys to the kingdom and went completely all out and it went down hill pretty fast.
I think this is something Phelous touched upon in his reviews of the films in that Alice was at her best in the first movie where there was that sense that she could be killed or at best be in server danger. But like you said Paul was given free regin there after to do whatever he wanted and quite quickly started turning the films less into survival horror films and more into a over the top action cartoon. And not even the fun kind.
Idk what films you watched, but I learned a lot about Alice. However, I love the film series as it is. Don't need it to be like the games. I have the games, so I can dive into that storyline anytime.
I watched the films and learned nothing of Alice. Her goals seem utterly aimless and she only seems to involve herself cause the plots require her too. Also if they didn't need to be like the games then they shouldn't have called them 'Resident Evil'. These films are honestly as about as faithful to the source material as a Uwe Boll film is.
you must have missed the last film and i would not blame you but we learn the alice we have been following was just genetically created as well. She was never real it could explain why she is so void of personality because she never had life experiences. At least you can use that as head cannon anyways. The real real alice was apparently a board member of umbrella that wanted shit to change so while she was in hypersleep with the rest of high members of the company underground the fake alice that we follow was intended from the beginning to do what real alice could not. It's why she just does things because it is built within her.
"I.E. 'Random white dude who happened to live in Japan at the time'" - that was beautiful
to summarize: its painful to watch
I love strong female leads but this isn’t the kind of lead people should love up to. A Mary Sue who’s super strong and does everything seemingly right all the time and is unstoppable, that’s a shitty role-model. Why couldn’t they just do Jill correctly? Or Ada? Or focus more on Claire? Characters that aren’t perfect but have amazing determination and other character traits that make for amazing female leads that can truly be inspirational and something to look up to.
Exactly my point
they're too busy wanking themselves to listen to you.
Well, it COULD work if they had moments of failure in between the infinite badassery, although i'm mentally picturing Dante from Devil May Cry. Guy is practically unstoppable, but still has moments of weakness.

Biggest drawback of Resident Evil movies is.. Alice! That single person (who is not even a part of the game) takes the highlight from all of the important characters from the videogame.
Secondly, poor casting.
I have to say this coz I've been saying the same thing from the time I watched the first movie, No character looks/feels like the character we have seen in games.
Uhh... I'll always stick to games.
They are my guilty pleasure. I totally get why they are trash after playing the games. I just separate them in my mind. The CGI movies are definitely more faithful to games.
I am not ok with the how the game characters were portrayed. Nothing against any actors. It's the writing that did an injustice to the game characters.
Ive always said that if they didnt have the name resident evil assigned to it they would be an alright zombie movies. The director married to the lead always causes a franchise to get butchered.
Yep i agree i love the games and the movies but in my mind are separate on with each other..!
Even as stand alone movies they suck
I'd rather watch the cutscenes from the first three games than any of these god awful films.
Excuse me
Truth
Alice made much of the cast just redundant. Especially in the later films. Just look at the games. As the series goes on, more powerful enemies show up and go from slow strides to running. Biting gets replaced with clawing, run jump mauling, gun use, even more dangerous mutations, and lastly, durability increase. These are supposed to generate fear and make the players think of how to avoid and fight the creatures without burning through their resources.
Alice, contradicts this. And this hurts the films soooo much. She's like a crutch you rely on too much, like a cheat code that gives you unlimited ammo.
I fully agree with your opinion.
The entire movie is just like a fanfiction tbh
Paul Anderson and most of these directors probably never read the books or played the games to gain any understanding of the source material of the movie they were trying to make, they were probably doing it for the money.....all they did was read the script and probably had someone explain the rough background of

Thank you for this video. You have no idea how many TIMES I had to argue with some friends of mine why the Resident Evil movies are absolute garbage.
The only good Resident Evil movies are Degeneration, Damnation and Vendetta. Because they have the characters and follow the games' story.
Vendetta was kinda dumb. If you want an example, just remember the scene where Leon was on the highway fighting off the ceberus and a few innocent drivers getting killed in the process.

Those movies are so fucking overdone as well lol

@@theferaldonkey But they're over done in a similar way the games are over done. They don't just make up characters and scenarios. They don't just shit lore out of their asses. And they don't pretend to be something they aren't, like the live action movies do.
what blows my mind is that every single one of these movies was released in theaters. from the 3d one onwards they should've been vod/home releases. and in the perfect world, they would not release *any* of them at all after the 2nd one. that said, the inconsistencies in these movies, especially the last one, are just out of this world. you can't be this incompetent if you tried. I saw "final chapter" by accident (long story) and the whole way through this "movie" I had one thought "does Anderson forget what happens in his movies after they are released?" that's the only explanation that makes sense. he fucking *wrote* them himself, one must *try* to eradicate any sense of internal logic and mythos. and the direction and writing overall are next level awful in the last movie.
great video, as always! this movie franchise continues to be one of the biggest misteries to me. first couple of Anderson's movies are solid, even the 1st RE is servisable, and 1st AvP, imo, is shot competently at least. but wtf happened to the guy next?..
That was my thoughts watching The Final Chapter too. It’s unbelievable just how bad that film was.
Yes he forgets.
@Yoshimitsu Idk, the first one had some absolute god awful acting. First time the group encounters zombies, the low key villain stands there looking bored to tears as they are supposed to be desperately trying to get away. As he is the one apparently panicking, not that his delivery or body language gave any indication of such.
Alice at least wasn’t so overpowered in the first film. I also didn’t think the one where she fought Jill was that bad. She struggled in the fight with Jill because she didn’t have powers at that time. It made her seem legitimately badass as she fought.
maybe because they had a actual budget? and wasnt low budget mess like so many other horror movies are?

The fact that they made Jill the secondary character of her own story and that they butchered so much from, yes a somewhat falling franchise in games, just proves they had no real way of making the movies good. Or just make a story different from the main series instead of self inserting a character(s) who didn’t exist in the series main points.
