  • "Escape is such a thankful Word / I often in the Night
    Consider it unto myself / No spectacle in sight
    Escape - it is the Basket / In which the Heart is caught
    When down some awful Battlement / The rest of Life is dropt-
    'Tis not to sight the savior- / It is to be the saved-
    And that is why I lay my Head
    Upon this trusty Word-"

      Even Klingon society has its soft and sensitive artist types. They just don't usually let outsiders see that aspect of their society.

    I was not expecting another video from you so soon! Doubly unexpected to be in Klingon, it was the first conlang I made any attempt at learning about 25 years ago though I've long since forgotten the tiny amount I learnt. Thank you for the surprise video in the surprise language and I hope you have a happy xmas!

    i had your songs playing in the background and didn't realise it was klingon until i went back and checked. this proves "throatiness" was invented by throat companies to sell more it doesn't work nvm

    And to think that with its many guttural consonants, Klingon bears some similarities in overall sound to Hebrew or Arabic. The former is quite fitting for the season as well.

      The main melody is "O Holy Night" ("Cantique de Noel" in the original French) and the bridge section in Dothraki is "The First Noel" :)

      In descending order of fluency: Lojban, Esperanto, Loglan, toki pona, Klingon, and finally Dothraki (which I learned only a tiny bit of for the part at 3:40 of this song). However, out of those, I would really only claim fluency in Lojban and Esperanto :)

    what resource(s) did you use to make the dothraki part? i cant find a working dictionary ANYWHERE 😭

      Yeah, Dothraki resources are pretty sparse these days for some reason. Here's what I used:
      Grammar:

      @@NoiseAndBells now i'm confused, cause one word is split in two parts
      hoyalates
      hoyalat + -es
      from the grammar it says "For animate nouns the accusative case is denoted by the suffix /-es/ regardless of what letter the noun
      ends in except for with plurals (that end in /-i/) where the accusative is only an /-s/."
      "hoyalat" is a verb, but the -es suffix is used for animate *nouns*
      huh?

    • @janmusi
      @janmusi 5 місяців тому

      hoyalates m’at memoon, arrekaan
      to sing [accusative] | with one (shortened of ma at) | sound [ablative] | until
      asto kishi frakha(t)* asavvasaan
      prayer | our | to touch | sky {heaven} [allative]
      *found frakhat, but not frakha. if -t is a suffix it could not be found.
      Ma me jekhta(t)* adorof yatha Vojjori
      and | he/she/it| to bounce (off of) | chair [augmentative] | high [noun isn't nominative] | god [dimunitive] |
      *found jekhtat, but not jekhta. if -t is a suffix it could not be found.
      Haji kolat athzhikhar sofosori
      Foreign word/for | to cure | sickness | [unable to find anything]
      why did i do this to myself

    • @NoiseAndBells
      @NoiseAndBells  5 місяців тому +1

      The -ates ending is the first person plural imperative, according to David J. Peterson; I actually had to ask him directly for that one, as it's not documented anywhere that I could find.

    • @NoiseAndBells
      @NoiseAndBells  5 місяців тому +1

      @@janmusi "frakha" and "jekhta" are conjugated in the first person singular present tense, which in this case entails merely dropping the final t from the infinitive. "sofosori" is a typo: it should read "sorfosori", from "sorfosor", meaning Earth.
