    Both Nvidia reflex and low latency mode caps your fps if you have vsync enabled with G-sync so no need to cap it when you use either of those. If you must cap your fps on a 240hz monitor though i'd recommend capping your fps at 225 fps, that's what nvida does with reflex. A 237 cap is too close to the monitors max refresh rate i believe.

    Great vid! the blurbuster Faq actually has a section on why you should use the V sync option with G sync:
    "Upon its release, G-SYNC’s ability to fall back on fixed refresh rate V-SYNC behavior when exceeding the maximum refresh rate of the display was built-in and non-optional. A 2015 driver update later exposed the option.
    This update led to recurring confusion, creating a misconception that G-SYNC and V-SYNC are entirely separate options. However, with G-SYNC enabled, the “Vertical sync” option in the control panel no longer acts as V-SYNC, and actually dictates whether, one, the G-SYNC module compensates for frametime variances output by the system (which prevents tearing at all times. G-SYNC + V-SYNC “Off” disables this behavior; see G-SYNC 101: Range), and two, whether G-SYNC falls back on fixed refresh rate V-SYNC behavior; if V-SYNC is “On,” G-SYNC will revert to V-SYNC behavior above its range, if V-SYNC is “Off,” G-SYNC will disable above its range, and tearing will begin display wide.
    Within its range, G-SYNC is the only syncing method active, no matter the V-SYNC “On” or “Off” setting."

    using gsync on valorant or csgo is better in my opinion. when you use ultra low latency mode plus the frame limiter and gsyc+vsync its smooth with no screen tearing and barely any input delay. The ripple effect from screen tearing is what throws me off in competitive games i dont even know how you guys bare with that but ive gotten to a high rank in valorant using gsync so i see no reason to disable it at all.

    Low latency mode ultra is not necessary if the game supports reflex. It is completely overrided by reflex. And the only different between on and ultra is that ultra sets an auto FPS limit below the refresh rate, thats the only difference (which is basically what reflex does as well as long as you have vsync on)
    Its also worthy to mention capping frames in NVCP or RTSS does not reduce latency as much as capping in game. If there is an ingame frame limiter, it is much better. There are a few examples where NVCP frame limiter would be better, and it usually has to do with games where the frametimes are spiking and causing stutters. Sometimes, because of the stutters and jumpy FPS, latency can be inconsistent. Other than that, always use an in game frame limiter. A lot of games on steam will let you use a launch option that limits FPS (or unlocks). I don't know of any games that don't allow an in game frame limit.
    I'm not sure if I missed it in the video, but GSYNC settings will almost always cause more input lag than just having it unlocked. You get screen tearing but when you're at 144+ hz, its relatively meaningless and doesn't impact competitive gameplay but the game may feel less smooth

  • @74age68
    @74age68 4 місяці тому

    Please keep in mind that this is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but it is the best choice for many games. For example, some games (like SEKIRO) will not change their refresh rate(use res-o-matic fix), and still choose 60hz and vsync that cannot be turned off (or vsync that needs to be turned off using the driver panel), and some games use triple buffering similar to windowed games. Some games even have bugs when using 144hz or gsync is turned on(like WARRIORS OROCHI 3U).

    Hi there!
    I wanted to ask you a question not really related to this video, but more your advice for which monitor to choose. I know these 2 monitors are a bit older and maybe there are better options, but I am in the market for a new gaming monitor at an affordable price and saw you do reviews on both of them.
    The monitors in question are: AOC C27G2ZE vs AOC 27G2SPU/BK
    The C27G2ZE is running at 240hz but in your review I saw you talking a lot about motion blur issues since it is a VA panel. So I wonder if I should then go for the 165hz IPS panel that the 27G2SPU offers?

    In the Chapter about G-Sync Settings you explain to turn on V-Sync in the NVidia Control Panel. Then when you jump into Destiny (visualy appealing settings) you have V-Sync OFF inGame but you do not explain why.
    So V-Sync ON in NVidia - okay
    But how to set it in Game and why?

    • @TotallydubbedHD
      @TotallydubbedHD  Рік тому +2

      While I've noted it in the video, it's a good question and one I should have covered. Effectively, as the Nvidia Control Panel (NVCP) V-Sync doesn't incur any extra input lag and works in connection with G-Sycn technologies. The in-game one however, can cause issues and if it's running on top of the NVCP V-sync, it could add that unwanted input lag (ie work on top of the global settings). So, effectively you want to ensure that V-sycn in games (all) are always disabled. Usually this will be the case anyway as game developers don't want you having a bad input lag experience either.
      Hope that answers it :)?

    What low latency mode do you use when gsync is off for competitive games? On, off, ultra?

    • @TotallydubbedHD
      @TotallydubbedHD  Рік тому +1

      It's a hard one to answer as it's based on the game. As I play CSGO (generally CPU bound), I have no real benefit of using the settings - as it's really to help GPU-bound games. Thus, my suggestion would be: check your GPU usage when playing your game of choice and see if the GPU is being truly utilised, if it is, then set the setting to ON (Ultra can cause issues in certain scenarios - and I'd only recommend that setting if the game has Nvidia Reflex built-in to the game's settings). If you see, like me, that GPU utilisation is really low, then I don't think you'll benefit from ULLM (ultra low latency mode) - and you'll be good with it set to Off.
      Hope that helps!

    For FPS games i always turn off Gsync because you need that low latency to be competitive.

    Having V-Sync on is the frame limiter, that's what it does, you don't need a frame limiter with G-Sync, it's what you used to do with fixed refresh monitors to reduce input latency by reducing the FPS by 3. V-sync is a monitor refresh frame rate limiter, it's as simple as that.

      What I said isn't wrong, for years there has been debates about having vsync on or off , it makes no difference , only limits the frame rate to max refresh, which is what vsync is for. So frame rate limiter on is useless with gsync. So to summarise, vsync is a frame rate limiter so you do t need one on, fps will never go over max refresh

    Please help me bro . My monitor is a Dell S2721HGF and my GPU is a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650 SUPER . I use a HDMI cable . My driver is up to date ( version: 555.85 ) . Processor is a Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core Processor. I have tried everything,, I think the issue is that im using a HDMI instead of a DisplayPort Cable, please confirm . been at this for 4 hours now
