That Iron Man was the first Iron Man figure I ever bought, and it reignited my passion for Marvel Legends.
If they painted this one like the 80th anniversary Iron Man it would be a 10/10 perfect figure.
Still waiting on an updated Extremis version & hoping it’s not painted like this one!

I just pre order this guy on big bad and I can't wait because this is my favorite armor/design for iron man by Alex ross so people don't sleep on this figure if you missed out on 80 years iron man get this guy lucky for me I have 80 years but this mark 70 iron man figure 👍

Despite the fact that I already have AI, Stealth, Silver Centurion and Modular Ironman figures for my Ironman armory, I think I will consider on getting this Alex Ross model 70 Ironman because he does look awesome with his design in the comics, Thank you for the review David.

Honestly I love Alex Ross designs. This Iron man and the spider-armor MK4 have a really nice classic feel to it while still feeling modern.
Just got this guy yesterday after seeing him store. I didn’t preorder him cause I didn’t think I need him but he is very good. So happy I got him. Ironmans look good all next to each other anyway so the more the better

I'm torn. I also love the back-to-basics design with no nanotech-organic-whatever, and how it looks comic-y while having some touches of MCU aesthetics. But it definitely looks too plasticy and the red parts SORELY need a wash. This might be the impetus to learn custom painting, since with touching up this could be THE Iron Man for the shelf.
And speaking of the current run, one issue's ending teased MANDARIN!

Honestly, you've kinda sold me on this! Like, I was happy with the modular Iron Man but really getting a good look at that sculpt and seeing how much better this fits into my modern-skewing collection it might be time for a replacement.
Also shout out to the random smoke effects, going to add Ironheart's as well to make a true diesel powered Iron Man lol
Can you list some of the figures you think this matches better with as compared to Modular? I'm just curious!
@@aFoxyFox. Hellcat for the specific run that this exact costume is from, but generally any figure that has like, a 2014 or later aesthetic I think matches better with this.
The specific costumes don't necessarily line up in the comics, but I think this would look great with for example, Ironheart or one of the MCU War Machines. Any of those armoured characters with the modern style of plates and panels fits aesthetically more with this than the Modular which is a very classic skintight costume looking armour.
I think this is great as a modern, yet classic Iron Man, it's got all the right colours in the right places but has that extra detailing he's drawn with present day.
@@anne.eyewitness I saw a video by Dan Who comparing a lot of Iron-Man figures, and you're right, when I saw this one standing up with the others, it looked very classic while being more modern and mechanical looking. It had lighter colors and the way that he showed it, it also didn't make the sides of the face too visible, so it looked like the character was smiling almost, so looked a bit friendlier than some other versions.

I bought the ai iron man just before this was revealed, I sort of regret it but I’m glad that I have the classic suit. I don’t usually like the modern designs though this Alex Ross design is great.

Tbh I don't need ANOTHER Ironman in my collection but darn it all I'm a completist collector. The seller for me is when you said he's based on Alex Ross artwork. He's one of my favorite comic book artist. A great review, Dave.
Hasbro did a fantastic job on this figure. Yet, like some other ML fans, the Iron Man quota has been achieved. Attractive as it is, at $40 CAN$ I'd have to justify spending my $$$ and remove an existing one. It's beautiful but not $40 beautiful. For that same price over at DST I can get the best version of the Silver Centurion with a bucket load of accessories. Great video David.
I pre-ordered this a while ago because, I decided on using this Iron-Man for my 90's arcade beat-em-up collection. It was the coolest looking of classic designs to me. Even if there might be figures more accurate to those Avengers games. After I get this guy, I'll just need a classic Hawkeye that reasonably matches said games. And finally a Cyclops that fits the 90's X-Men arcade. And then I'll be done, I think, for that category. Don't know if I'll build up the cartoon cast in figure form. I'm not liking the cell shading effects on the ones Hasbro's been making for the show.
(I'm not the biggest Iron-Man fan. So, I don't know how the heck I ended up with a handful of Iron-Man figures! LOL. This will be my 6th, holy bajeebus!)

I actually like this figure more than I thought I would. Looks amazing in flight position with blast effects on hands in an S.H. Figuarts stand! In need of a superior paint job though. Those white dots do look like cheap stickers on old toys that I just want to peel off. They could have done so much better with that! Paint should have awed us like the box art.
Not sure where you're coming from in saying that McFarlane DC figs have inferior aesthetics in the torso. I look at this Iron Man and think, "Ah....Hasbro is finally learning something from McFarlane....". I look at my McFarlane DC figs (I have about 90% of every one he's made) and their torsos look quite snug. I could understand that due to the vastly superior sculpt detail in DC figs that that might limit the range of torso motion compared to a Legends figure like this Iron Man. Take Page Punchers Batman inspired by Bermejo's art as an example. At least McFarlane gives you a hidden waist cut.
Not sure what it is about paint apps with figures in this basic price point range. Both Hasblow and McFarlane are in desperate need of improving paint. Hasbro has a problem of every painted part is ONLY that color. So if a figure is wearing a blue spandex costume, the whole suit is universally that blue with no fade or highlights or wash. If they have yellow gloves, the whole glove is the same yellow. Take retro Mister Fantastic and Loki for example. This only shows how simple their figures are already when their sculpts don't hold a candle to DC Multiverse. McFarlane's problems with paint is not having universal paint app. When I shop for them in store, I have to compare two of the same figures side by side to see which one was painted better, or which one has less/no errors. I guarantee you that NO ONE has a Devastator figure with exactly the same paint wash between the light grey body and the dark grey highlights. McFarlane also releases some figures with incomplete paint jobs. Gold Label Knightfall Azreal in blue Batman armor and Arkham Knight are key examples in this. I wouldn't mind paying, realistically?, $3 more for a slightly better paint job on all these figures.

Haha, great review, and besides the bursting out into songs and various voices, I also love sound effects, like with all the armor stuff going on in this video at one point. So, with the four figures rotating, the Mezco looked best but comparing the prices, this figure was nice because of the height and the appearance, particularly with the unmasked head sculpt too. The plastic maybe isn't too bad looking overall, but it does tend to bother me in comparison to more metallic type stuff, and the white spots are also a bit jarring or distracting for me, because they look unfinished or like they should have something more about them to make them look like lights or shiny or whatever they are supposed to be.
For Iron-Man, one of the most important aspects for me, besides the way the body colors break up and look to the eye, the helmet and the way the face looks and the kind of expression it has or impression it gives is pretty important to me. This one wasn't actually looking as bad as I thought when I had seen Hasbro's imagery once it was shown there, but I think the best is the Mezco you showed and then the next for me might be the Stealth one, though aspects of the head shape bother me. The inferior paint job Stealth unmasked head sculpt also seemed to look alright in the version you have compared to others I've seen and especially when they are compared with the 80th.
I'm going to see some videos to see people compare Modular to this new one, but I'm far from even tempted to get this one, I don't see it making sense with anything I have, since my Gamerverse ones fit in a lot better with the look of most of my things and Iron Man isn't all that important to me overall either so long as I have one or more already that function as the character. The Iron Man should also match well enough to my Rescue figure.

I like this one a lot, but the 80th IRON MAN is still THE Iron Man for me. I like the smoke on the boots, but not on the hand repulsors. That seems very NASA rocket to me, and I dig that.

Ok, Dave! I'm convinced, and I'm sold. I wasn't planning to buy any of this line, but you remind me that I need to continue to collect my Iron Man and Spider-Man figures. From this BAF line, I do like the design of Quake and Madame Hydra, but didn't want to commit to having loose BAF pieces. I might still pick up Quake but not M.Hydra because I feel they should’ve given her a bigger bust.

Even this figure is slightly inaccurate. His feet are supposed to have gold on em but they don't and the head doesn't look like that entirely. It should be red around the jaw. I am still getting this though. As angry as the inaccuracies make me.

I bet Spinneret 2-pack Spider-Man or the Winged Venom might jump to the top of your ML figure rankings. There’s some incredible stuff in the pipeline, in addition to way too many characters treated as wave fillers.
What are the ToyBiz artists up to these days? I’d love their attention to detail and bonkers diorama pieces overlaid with modern technology- the ground effect from the 20th Hulk is the closest we have seen of late. More of that please.

I haven't seen the video yet, but I'm of that opinion and attitude currently. I think David, when he first opened it and Quake as well, was feeling a bit of a good-time buzz, having had a gin and tonic earlier, which may have altered his initial perception, and just like having "beer/alcohol goggles" sometimes the first impressions can last after the initial high and euphoria should be gone! Would it be simpler to accept that David has lost in his taste?
No, there has to be something to account for this plasticky looking sucked in cheeks looking figure getting past David's usual filters! I'm going to watch this review carefully to see if David can properly justify this sudden lapse in common sense, and furthermore if he can convince me this totally unnecessary seeming Iron-Man is somehow a worthwhile purchase for people who already have other versions. Earlier, I saw that it can't even lift its arms? That is relatable, to look like I'm starving while having a bulky body and not being able to raise my arms, but I can look in the mirror for free!
Modular Iron-Man, which was also hyped a lot, wasn't all that impressive to me either, but I wanted a kind of basic sort of Iron-Man that looked like the video game versions like the old Capcom games, and I also have Gamerverse Iron-Man, and Gamerverse Atmosphere Suit Iron-Man, and a Diamond Select version from the past. I don't like the really bright yellow and red versions either, I like Iron-Man to look metallic and machine-like as well, but at the very least metallic. I have the Deluxe War-Machine as well, which had a metallic and machine-like look also.
I don't like anything to look very much like cheap plain plastic that is unpainted. Also, the face of this figure from images I've seen looks very sunken in and small and thin, and I prefer Iron-Man to somehow look somewhat heroic, so I've rejected versions that look more villainous or like a human isn't inside the costume.
For Iron-Man head sculpts, the one with the 80th Anniversary figure might be the best, which appeared in a re-painted (worse-painted) version in the Stealth Iron-Man suit, which had a very cool sheen and color to the main figure but an unpleasant paint job on the head they offered with it as compared to the 80th classic head. I purchased the Atmosphere Iron-Man for the Gamerverse head that I enjoy, and I may even use the head from Stealth Captain America to play the villain in the new film Interceptor (Alexander Kessel from the film, and also possibly to use as Hydra Supreme).
This is Plastic Man not Iron Man. Why is there no metallic paint for this figure? I guess that money went into the scuplt. Classic Hasbro half assing things. No justice done for the character or the Alex Ross art. SMH.

In my honest opinion, this ironman is ugly... Looks like cheap swirly plastic with 2 tone colors, very plain and basic. Enormous thighs and just ugly helmet. But again, that's just my opinion. Modular iron is the best of all time iron suit for me.
