I agree, it's a fun figure to handle but yeah, I really wish the paint apps were closer to the 80th anniversary figure. Would've really elevated the whole thing.

Yes I agree the 80 years anniversary iron man is still the very best one. I do like silver centurion too but I wish they figured out the separate neck articulation when he came out
I loved it! Of course I also wanna customize the paint job but I have never done it or am not good enough to do it. I did have tons of fun with it and happy to add it to my collection! 😁
Well, if there was ever a great starting point, it's Iron Man. Nice, big blocks of color, and it's really easy to get smooth coats on the relatively undetailed surface of armor. Just remember: thin and light. Thin your paints. Keep your coats light, and you'll keep your surfaces smooth. If you have the patience for a dozen thin coats of acrylic (don't jump the gun on recoats, either; let it cure), it's going to look good, trust.
@@Avelcaine Yeah you're probably right. He's got nice big pieces of armor that can be easily painted if I try. Thank you for the advice, I'm totally gonna see what I can do. I'm gonna buy a second one and try my best to paint it to my specifications. I wanna give him a shiny paint job and maybe change the color of the chin too.

A couple extra tips, then: - unused BAF parts make great low-stakes practice pieces - don't skip prep: wash your figure before painting and do some light sanding on hard plastics - a can of quality spray primer (fine spray) makes the whole process easier, and comes in white, gray and black, so it can be an undercoat, as well - for Iron Man, you might try the Gundam modeler's secret weapon: Tamiya Clear colors over solid chrome. Google will find you a better tutorial on that than I can give.

@@WillyMcFlyy Clear primer is fine, if that's all you want, but white and grey give you a clean "canvas" for painting light colors over darker ones, and black gives a darker tone to whatever you paint over it with, so they have more utility. With the exception of (most) torsos and joint discs, ML figures are soft plastic -- no good for sanding. I don't recall what tutorial I used for the "clear color over chrome" trick, but there are plenty out there.
Just got this figure and in my super personal opinion I really like the flat coloring, both in the luster of the armor and the choice to make the scattered glowy parts just flat white. I think it keeps a nice simple, clean warm color scheme that looks nice on its own and will especially shine next to other figures w cooler colors, and I think the white breaks it up without clashing like a blue would imo. Not going full devil's advocate on purpose, I just mainly wanted to gush ab the colors in the scope of my taste lmao

I really really wish Hasbro would have sculpted eyes behind the mask so it would be more accurate to Alex Ross. Alex Ross is notorious for having eyes this through masks of even characters like Batman.
If the arc reactors throughout the figure were at least light yellow or blue I think it would look a lot better than just Stark white as is Pardon the pun

I got this figure at an Ollie's in Gulfport for 10 bucks. Would prefer if it came with four blast effects, so I don't have to wait until I find another figure with similar colored effect parts.
I caught up on the comics through the MU app and this design has grown on me quite a bit. I also wish they had used the darker reds/more gold paints from the previous figures on this one. I mean, the 80th is also based on Alex Ross art and got those colors, so why not this one?
I'm stuck right dab in the middle for choosing between modular and 80th. I think out of the box 80th is the clear winner, but I panel lined modulars head and other details and HOLY CRUD it's a different beast aesthetically. Highly recommend panel lining him with black Gundam marker. I really can't choose which my favorite is. I want to say 80th but the modular armor all panel lined and updated just makes it a THE Ironman figure you need but 80th is an iconic CLASSIC but... It's just outdated .... But classiccc. I can't choose... I'm losing sleep over this 🤣
Happy Father's Day! I like the figure, but the shinning of the plastic is meh, I would love if Hasbro would settle in a color palette for Iron-man armors, every Iron-man has very different colors and they sometimes don't match with each other :/
I really want to collect some of these new figs but I just can't bring myself to spend $25-$30 for a ML😂 The quality just isn't there for that price point

Anyone else having a frozen upper knee joint issues in the figure? I’ve dipped it in boiling water, used hair dryers, everything and it’s just stuck.
