    Your neighbors must have been so sad to leave their tree behind. It’s probably like a child to them that they grew for 10 years. How fortunate that they had a plant loving neighbor like you who would treasure this plant!

    That seems like a small pot for such a tall tree.
    Perhaps getting a bigger pot will allow the roots to get bigger and be better for the tree all the way around .
    I heard the sap dripping from the leaves of the tree is also known as happy sap .
    Nice tree.

    This was a lot of fun. What a neat story, and I’m so excited to see how big my money tree could get. Wow do I envy your natural light! My money tree is unfortunately in a north-facing window and will never be like yours. It really does grow very well, though, despite the unfortunate light.
    It had never occurred to me that the braiding was partially for support. Very interesting. That makes sense. I’ve been braiding mine as it gets taller, so I’ll keep doing that.

    • @funwithplantsandcats
      @funwithplantsandcats  3 роки тому +3

      Thank you for watching, J! Money trees are so versatile, and do well in north facing windows. There's one in my doctors office (not nearly close to any windows) that's doing pretty well too. I think the braided look on a money tree is beautiful, and that's awesome that you're continuing the braid. Have a great day!

    I'm almost sure that the spotting is caused by sunlight - especially on older leaves. It really likes light, but it gets scorched/burnt easily by direct sun rays.
    Also, sap may be gutation from overwatering.
    Hope sth of this helps.
    It's very pretty plant you have and great neighbours, too.

    • @funwithplantsandcats

      Thank you for the tips! I'm thinking the holes could be burns from the sun as well. Lately I've given it more shaded light which has been working out well so far.

    A beautiful specimen! As you pointed out, some ties are digging into the stems but if they are allowed to stay like that, they will ‘girdle’ them which stops the flow of water and nutrients to your plant which would be a tragedy for this beautiful tree. The leaves often drop from the tree during low light levels in the winter but will grow again in spring

    I bought my money tree about a year and a half ago and it was about six inches with a teeeny little pot. I’ve replanted twice into larger pots (I know, I know, they like little containers 🤷‍♀️ but I was so surprised at how fast they grow). It’s about three feet tall now. I have a question for anybody who’s experienced with theses plants…some of the leaves are bright green with dark veins, others just a deep green. I’ve tried to see if this is happening as the leaves grow and is normal or if I’m over-watering it, under-watering it, giving it too much light or too little light? Does it need fertilizer? I can’t tell because the leaves change so many times. Dark when they first come out, then that bright green, then seem to get those veins but others not so much, then they just turn different shades of green. It’s weird but I think it’s pretty, if it’s not dying that is. It does look bushy, healthy, and and is putting on a lot of leaves and none seem to be dying or falling off. I can’t find anything that talks about these dark green veins. Does anybody know if it’s normal or what I can do about it if it isn’t?

    Noooo. Chinese money trees at the nurseries have 5 trunks braided together. 5 is good luck. So two of their‘s must have died from root rot and that’s why there’s only three. These trees can get root rot very easily.

      Hi there, it's hard to say, but it does sound like an overwatering issue. My suggestion is to get a moisture meter, only water when the soil on the top few inches reads dry. Good luck!

  • @joshdavila87
    @joshdavila87 3 роки тому

    You stated you would eventually have to prune the tree, why would you need to do that? I saw another video saying that the tree being braided could cause it to have issues later.

    • @funwithplantsandcats
      @funwithplantsandcats  3 роки тому +2

      Yep! I want to prune it back because if it's too tall, it's going to be hard for me to clean the leaves and do pest inspections. For now, it's a manageable size for me with a step stool. I also saw a Planterina video where she suggested against braiding the trunk.

  • @itsrashard
    @itsrashard 2 роки тому

    Anyone know how to make a money tree grow taller?
    Mine is putting out branches with leaves but theres not a lot of trunk space (height) between them as they keep coming in. My tree is becoming very bushy and the branches from the other trunks are all running into each other. And tips would be helpful.

    • @gregsullivan4774
      @gregsullivan4774 2 роки тому +2

      Then you have a happy healthy plant. The bushier the better. A money tree gets leggy from insufficient light. Give it time it will get tall. Her plant is ten yrs old. Another point is that if a plant is getting adequate light and is growing properly it would wouldn't need stakes to keep it up right. This plant got too leggy to where it can't support itself.

    What a great find! I worried when I heard the word "unit" more than once... Wasn't sure where you are on the planet to call a house/home/condo a "unit", but I'm sure it has an explanation. Regardless, I hope you'll have this monster for many years. By the way, those stakes/sticks were placed into the pot when the plant was repotted, else, driving those sticks into the soil would have torn the roots, creating root rot and the death of the plant. The duct tape solution always works. LOL.

  • @lizazellig9807
    @lizazellig9807 2 роки тому +4

    Leaving money tree in a braid will eventually kill it, well you probably won’t be able to grow it to this size and as healthy in a braid shape, because as the stems get thicker at the bottom the braid gets tighter and the stems start cutting into each other and are unable to get thicker, to supply enough moisture and nutrients for the leaves at the top…
