Ok
@@homemend I do have a question if u can answer it I'm fixing to buy a house just south of Jonesboro Arkansas and it needs a new fence cause I've got 3 good size dogs one of which is a husky. But the fence it has is no where big enough for them to run if that makes sense. But I also have a learning disability I'm adhd/add and some of things ur talking bout in how to build a fence and gate are jabberish to me I don't understand can u put it in real easy terms to where a 3rd grader can understand? Especially on how to build a gate? The fence that's there now is no where big enough and it's incomplete so I'll have to build a bigger fence around it and take the old fence down as it's a small picket fence and some chain link. Is there lumber and such I need to look out for and good buy for the price that lasts long or cheap that lasts long for a wood fence?
Best how to's on You Tube! Simple and straight forward! Thanks man!
thank you MG! appreciate the comment!
I have a brand new fence and gates, but this was excellent knowledge for regular maintenance and repair as needed in the years to come. Subscribed, Craftsmanship in America is a dying art, great to see you maintaining the tradition. Craftsman built this country.
Thank you goat. I appreciate the comment

Super Nice, Dustin. My fence is about 25 years old. This is good info...time for a new one. Mine isn’t as rickety as the one you pushed down, but it is pretty crispy lol.

This guy knows his stuff
Thank you sir!
No sir here, Nortenos only. Sir sounds like sur, the rivals. They actually hit up on my fence. Cant find the bastards. Theres pride for the Northside here in the pacific northwest. I get called sir at the store i tell them not to call me that. Ene pronounced N A.
straight to it, not a bunch of yak yak, good camera angles , ya get the job done I bet you stay booked up.
thank you m!..never understood why contractors take so long...get it done and move on! thanks for commenting!
I loved it, super practical.

Love this guy
Thank you sir!
Hey, I'm a first time homeowner and your channel has helped give me so much confidence, so a huge thank you for that! Do you have any videos or suggestions on fixing a fence using the old pickets? Is that possible? Even a temporary fix would be great -- something to last a year maybe? Long enough to save for an upgrade? Thanks so much for all you do!
Hey Jamie. That is awesome friend. Thanks for sharing. Just replacing pickets as needed is the only way to save them.
Excellent work. Need this info. 😅
It seems simple enough, but doing it is another. Yes I'm concerned about the gate fit, aligning.
I'd like to use other than 2x4 frame.
Thanks.
They do have gate kits available for about 50 bucks but I’ve always built them with the 2 x 4 cross brace and they hold up for years. I hope the video helped! Thanks so much for watching
Nice dude! Thank you!
Thank you short appreciate you, friend
Good deal bro
Thank you Don
very nice!
Thank you. NN!
You should use post cement
Thanks for sharing
rocked it!
thank you sir!
Awesome
Thank you sir
I'm with you, when a gate sags it sags at the hinges not at the frame, amirite? I put a kickstand on the side opposite the hinge to prevent it from sagging. HD also sells casters on a spring that are a good idea if you have a level surface.
awesome cerb! thanks for the suggestions!
Cool
Thank you Sam A!
this video is super awesome. thank you!
thank you blake..you got this!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 🏠
thank you HG!
I have been pouring a mixture of termite poison and water in the hold before adding the cement. I hope this will prolong the life of the Post.
Hey bb. Sounds awesome. I’ve not known termites to bother fence posts much but it does happen. Thanks for sharing!
Now we know why the first fence rotted out😂
Water and time my friend. Thanks for watching
Dont mean to be one of those “brace nuts”and really just trying to offer some good advice, but if you’ll research a little bit on the differences between a “compression brace” (the kind you used here) and a “tension brace” (when the bottom of the brace is on the latch side of the gate), you will understand why a gate brace should be a compression brace, if ya dont like call backs lol
You got that right my friend. Thank you for watching.
Nice video. Can you do one on repairing a chain link fence?
hey tom.. thank you!....putting it on the list
How long should that type of fence last?
Hey movie maker. Easy 10 years with minor maintenance of course
@@homemend Thank you
Great work! Would I be able to turn an eight foot panel into a gate? I was thinking to cut it in half and use 4 feet of it as a door. What are your thoughts?
Thank you Robbie yes or you can just make sure you still frame for it, put in a Cross brace. Beef it up a little. You got this. Thanks for commenting!
The gate brace is right direction, but not the best angle.
Thanks for commenting AP!

Holy crap, you make it look so damn easy! 😆 I may try my hand at DIYing my front gate area. It's a small enough job that maybe I CAN do it! 😁
Also, I love that you use minimal tools. No need for fancy, expensive tools. A circ saw, drill, level and hammer. Fantastic!
You can do it BG. One step at a time. You got this
Hi mate. I have a handyman business for years and I've just got a carpentry qualification through 'recognition of prior learning' here in Australia. Just wondering where you are in the US if they have systems like that?
hey dave! great news man, thats awesome!.. im actually working on creating an e course that will cover a house top to bottom. im in virginia beach, we just work with a trade for 4 years and can become a journeyman, then master...it takes a while but yes...so good to hear youre doing well friend.
@@homemend thats good to know. In my case I didn't have to work with a trade. I had to show photos of my projects over the years and I do some "gap knowledge" courses... this was a alternative pathway from a apprenticeship. Which is good because they're hard to come by here, and I'd rather do it this way anyway.
🥰
Yay Renee! 🙏
Are nails used instead of screws on the pickets only to deter people from removing pickets and breaking in or is there a different, building-related, reason?
hey gypsy..i nailed these because i had 3" screws and they would poke through...not really a security issue...if someone wanted in they could just climb over :(
Stop banging your level, it’s a device of measure
hey brendan!..this is my level...thats the way i do it...thanks for commenting!
Lousy job
alright jay! thanks for sharing!

Coming from a pro!! Your the best diy!! Congratulations
You are awesome Julian. I am adding a heart to this comment my friend. It means that much more coming from a fellow pro. Long live the pros!
Great video. Simple and easy. Can’t wait to get started with mines. Thanks.
You got this Mark. Thanks so much for sharing
I want my gate to open OUT. I think that's how most gates are installed. I don't have enough clearance to allow the gate to swing IN. So that means the hinges have to be placed on the outside.
Thanks so much for sharing!
Got it and thanks.
Thank you car
Thank you!!!❤😊
Thank you, Victoria!
For reasons unknown, UA-cam hasn't been notifying me for about 2 weeks now, when new videos are uploaded by channels that I subscribe to. Grrrr! Great video though. I've thought about putting up a privacy fence because I have a nosey neighbor. Would it look bad if I just put it up on one side of my yard? lol
hey gods gurl!....always love hearing from you...one side is totally doable..lol i had a neighbor with a deck and i saw right into his house when i went out my back door, so i installed one panel..it did the trick...think about the very first guy who came home and his neighbor installed a fence...very o-fence-ive..lol maybe thats where the term came from..
@@homemend You just might be on to something! Very punny!
Great Work Dustin and Screw the haters!
I’ve got haters? Where? Who? Why lol thanks for commenting JR
Awesome job 👍
