I admire this video, I am considering buying a Can Am RT and this Show's me how far you can push the vehicle. I was wondering how it would handle in the snow. I live here in Brooklyn and the last few winters have not been to bad as far as the snow goes. In the same conditions you are riding in the video I also would not have to much of an issue going a short distance. Of course the fish tailing is a concern, as some other commenters stated I would not promote riding in such weather, but I am glad you should what the Spyder is capable of handling. SUB! And drive safe brother!
When we had a travel trailer with a TV antenna that you had to crank the antenna up and down. So, I did not forget to lower the antenna. I would put a clothes pen on the truck somewhere so I would remember to lower the antenna. You might try something like that for your battery tender. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and experience.
Stay safe out there brother you certainly have way more cojones than I do taking that thing out during a winter storm!Good luck getting all the salt off your machine i for one do not miss that job.Merry christmas.
"From December 1 to March 15 inclusive, all motorized road vehicles registered in Québec (other than heavy vehicles, tool vehicles and farm machinery) must be equipped with winter tires. This requirement also applies to rental passenger vehicles in Québec, as well as mopeds, motorized scooters and motorcycles." This comes directly from our provincial government agency website. So, yes, you can ride your Spyder during winter, but you need winter tires. If I did ride my Spyder during winter, I would definitely get a good set of car winter tires. But, we get a lot more snow here than you do in Niagara Falls NY, so I simply store my Spyder away for the winter and wait for March 15th when the tire restriction ends. I am looking forward to your winter riding review, specifically what how have the cold temperatures and the road salt affected or not your Spyder. Good vlog Chris!
Thanks again for the clarification on the provincial rules. I would definitely not be doing this if we got as much as you do, but we’ll see how this first full winter goes.
When I built my garage a few years ago I added a floor drain system a 1" PEX line and a 2" sink drain. Maybe this summer, I'll connect it all up and add an on demand water heater and a propane roof heater. I'm a long way from that but if I finish the drywall over the winter and get a proper electrical box, I'll be half way there. Long story short, it was all in the design so I could wash my truck and bike inside the garage. I hope to get all that complete by next fall. also, I'm going to start my Spyder after it being in storage for a month about an hour north of you without a trickle charger in a few days. I'll try to video the event to see if it starts or if the battery drained.
You can ride one in the winter in Québec, but winter tires are obligatory on any vehicle between december first and march 15. I would be curious to see you try some winter tires on your Canam, it could make a world of difference in cold weather as regular tires start loosing grip even on dry roads when the temperature gets below 5 C (40 ish farenheit). I once had to ride my bike while it was -12 C (about 8 F) and even on dry pavement i had to be really gentle with the driving inputs because i had no traction at all.
How is the ABS braking doing? One thought that I had for cleaning the under carriage was a spray adapter that sprays up, like a concrete cleaner that is used with a pressure washer. I have seen these used to clean under trucks.
Not surprising. This is a Rotax 1300cc engine, probably similar to yours. Spyder is a cousin of Ski-Doo. I’ll be going to Old Forge at some point to rent a snowmobile to discuss similarities. Thanks for subscribing!

Can Am Riders are always safe riders it's the other drivers that don't give a DAMN the 2 or 4 door drivers that Text as they drive or not even use their signals or three mirrors for safe lane change they only focus straight ahead which leads the the highest accident rate, this is why front and rear cameras are a must to deter a person from lying. Peace.
Good luck with all of this, my friend! Again, get under armor for your non-armored gear - you could slip and fall and get hurt. I'd be concerned with your back tire getting traction on roads since your wheel is spinning in uncleared areas.
I am new to Can Am Spider RTL, Have you used Eco mode in the snow and Ice. It is Dec. 15 2024 in Way Northern California in the Redwoods. I don't get much snow but we get so much rain. My back tire slips a lot in the rain. I tried ECO mode and wow it hardly slipped. I have only had my Spider for 4 months now. I am learning So much from you, So Thank You.
@@SpyderChrisYT I believe you watch Sean Smoak and he is totally against "Ever" using eco mode as it causes everything in the engine to carbon(not he hard stuff) up and causes the oil to get more dirty between changes. I think the rain mode or some other mode would be better than eco.
You 're right, we can't ride in spyder on winter time in Québec. It would be very high risk. Waiting to onstore the bike, I appreciate à lot yours vidéos and comments. For me it's like some virtuals rides. Friendly from Trois-Rivieres, Québec.
I caution against riding any 2 or 3 wheel vehicles in anything other than 3 season conditions. 1) Visibility-the other guy. 2) These vehicles/tires weren’t designed for snowy weather. No one can predict where the ice patches might be. 3) Most people aren’t expecting a 2/3 wheel motorcycle to be on the road in the winter, any more than a boater would expect a snowmobile to be on the lake in the summer even though it can and has been done. Careful man…
What do you do about covering up the Spyder while you shop, or don’t you worry about it. I think I remember Shawn Smoak say something about riding in cold winter weather. I believe he was talking about starting the bike during the winter for just a few minutes, and condensation issues. Just wondering if you heard anything like that. Stay safe.
I won’t ride in heavy accumulating snow, so I won’t need to cover it. Regarding condensation, I’ll try to keep my tank full in the colder months. But all of this is new to me.
For groceries? Nope. Not for me. I’d totally Instacart that. Mandatory meeting? Good to know it’s an option but yeah, I love that everything can be delivered…
Road salt and corrosion are my biggest worries. I knew that going into this. At the end of the season I’ll remove the plastics and get a good look at things.
Cloth and a pay phone, how old are you..... lol sorry, it made me laugh, i showed a picture of a pay phone to a frinds daughter she had no idea what it was.
Chris, I love listening to you explain Western New York weather. You did a great job. I smiled through all of it. Stay warm and ride safe.
Thank you! No snow on the ground today, but I know you have lots.
You're a tough cat brother... Thats all i can say... Be safe my friend, stay warm !! 😮
Thanks!
I’m kinda jealous watching this. I’m about 1 1/2 hours south of you and my bike is tucked in the garage till next year lol.
I love it down in the Southern Tier.

Very awesome video. Love the snow. Very impressed that you ride with snow on the ground. How would highway riding in these conditions be like.
I wouldn’t ride on highways in these conditions. A recipe for disaster.

Try putting it in eco mode in the snow, it will reduce the throttle response. Hope it helps
Welcome to winter

I’m going to stick with the stock tire for this winter, but may try a snow tire next year depending on how this experiment goes.

Braking seems to be working fine. That idea for an undercarriage cleaner is something I need to look at.
@SpyderChrisYT
On Amazon I found one by Ridge Washer, but there is a lot of different ones.
Stay safe .. i miss the old la hacienda!!!
Wegmans rotisserie chicken...yummers..
I love La Hacienda! Close walk from my house.
I wear a balaclava under my helmet, especially with heavy wind gusts
Take it easy out there. 👍
Albany NY here. Oddly enough that sounds like my snowmobile , SkiDoo 1200 four stroke! Enojoed the vid and subscibed!

i admire you for riding in this. I have a Honda Goldwing trike and would not try it. I still love my 4x4 pickup
And the 4x4 pickup has heat!
Good luck this winter! Someday you may want to re-consider not having a cheap winter vehicle where you choose to live!
Be careful!

I don’t believe I’ve seen them anywhere. Putting them on would a major ordeal.

Unfortunately there aren’t such tires available, as far as I know. But my tire is pretty new.
Studded tires?
No, these are the stock Kenda tires. The rear (drive) tire is pretty new.

Thanks, this was the best thing I have bought. It was my early birthday gift, only been riding for 4 months put 1500 miles on her
Love the video of you going to grocery store in snow, those are some steep bridges.
try washing the bike with salt away,
