Thanks for sharing your experiences about Spyder long journey, reliability, handling, and comfort..
Last month I completed a coast to coast journey, from Florida to California and back on my 2018 Spyder RTL. The 7300 mile adventure was a trip of a lifetime. My Spyder performed flawlessly, the comfort was outstanding, and the handling and performance we're awesome. I've ridden in the flatlands, mountains, and other challenging areas. I've done the tale of the dragon. Numerous times as well as the back of the dragon several times. I consider the Spyder the Ferrari of motorcycles.
I had no problems mechanical or electrical with the bike. On average, I got 32 to 35 mpg, depending upon the quality of the gas, the riding conditions, etc.
This was my second long journey with my Spyder. I now have over 40,000 miles on it. I am planning another 7000 miles plus trip for next summer up into the Rockies. I have the utmost confidence in my 2018 Can Am Spyder RTL.
    Bob in Florida.

From December 1st to March 15th, winter tires are compulsory here in Quebec, which makes it virtually impossible to ride the Spyder. Plus, the amount of snow and some of the frigid weather we get is not suited nor good for the Spyder. I am glad you are capable of riding this time of the year and I am looking forward to your Florida trip.

Oh, I know...the other comment...I wear a kemimoto heated jacket and it is one size bigger than what I wear so that I can still wear my level 2 armor underneath it. I used to ride to work when it was cold but it only took 20 minutes so I could take the cold. Heated gear and warmer heated grips (the F3 has only one setting, so I have heated grip wraps) have been a game changer for me and extended my riding season. Yes, you have to stay warm!

I’m intrigued by heated gear. I’ll see if I can go through this winter without it. I’ve ridden my two wheel motorcycles in winter for years, though never on slick roads.

You 100% need a trickle charger, good on you for that. What they don't tell you at the dealership is the spyders, RT, rykers have a 40 MINUTE DRAW DOWN time. I.E. the bike will continue to draw more than necessary for 40 minutes after it's shut off. This results in serious battery issues. Tire pressure a little low. Coming from a can am shop, tire pressure is 25 +/- 3 to 5.

@@SpyderChrisYT If you're going to wear standard clothing during your rides, I'd suggest getting Bohn armor shells to wear underneath. I have the jacket and pants that are Lycra with armor.

Go easy Chris in the cold weather especially when there is ice around! I know in the park you mentioned salt but do you have gritters to take care of the main streets? Also, a lot of people have heated under garments like Keis that they plug up to the bike or indiviual battery packs to keep them warm. 🥶🥶👍👍

Yeah, no thanks to riding in weather this cold. Bravo to you for making your choices work but my Spyder is all packed away safe in the garage until spring. I'll hopefully get it out on the early side, don't mind some chill... But chill, not freeze. lol I am very interestingly watching though to see how things go for you throughout the winter.

Gotta love YT...left you a comment yesterday and it's not here...let's see if I can remember what I wrote...maybe it was too long, lol...I'll try splitting it up! I wouldn't think you would have an issue starting with it being on the trickle charger, but who knows. I keep mine plugged in whenever I'm not riding, even in the summer months. Pretty Christmas decorations. Would love to see those at night.

brave riding around in those conditions. even with 3 wheels, the stock tires are junk and traction is always an issue on anything but dry pavement. keep an eye on that drive belt with all that salt too.

    • @SpyderChrisYT

Corrosion from the road salt will also be a big concern. We’ll see how things look after my first winter using this as my only vehicle.

It’s now I don’t know Monday the December 8 and I’ve had my spyder in storage in the garage for a month not on the trickle charger. I should make a video of me starting it this week. due to some personal issues, I was unable to ride or start it for the last month and now it’s winter and I’m in Hamilton Ontario so close to you. I’ll have to test and see how nicely it starts before I connect the trickle charger. I actually bought one of those battery monitors. I’ll have to install it at the same time I install the trickle charger and I could check via Bluetooth how it’s doing.
I want to go to port Dover’s Friday 13th this eeek but I don’t think I can make it considering it will be well below freezing this Friday but hopefully I’ll get it back out if the weather gets dry again.
