Riding a Can-Am Spyder in Hot Weather
Just looked it up.will not harm your motor.you dumb people do some research.
30 mag is not very good
None of what you said true, have had none of these problems and have 40K miles on mine
Could you please be more specific when you say “none of what you said it true”? What did I say that isn’t true?
brave riding around in those conditions. even with 3 wheels, the stock tires are junk and traction is always an issue on anything but dry pavement. keep an eye on that drive belt with all that salt too.
Corrosion from the road salt will also be a big concern. We’ll see how things look after my first winter using this as my only vehicle.
It’s now I don’t know Monday the December 8 and I’ve had my spyder in storage in the garage for a month not on the trickle charger. I should make a video of me starting it this week. due to some personal issues, I was unable to ride or start it for the last month and now it’s winter and I’m in Hamilton Ontario so close to you. I’ll have to test and see how nicely it starts before I connect the trickle charger. I actually bought one of those battery monitors. I’ll have to install it at the same time I install the trickle charger and I could check via Bluetooth how it’s doing. I want to go to port Dover’s Friday 13th this eeek but I don’t think I can make it considering it will be well below freezing this Friday but hopefully I’ll get it back out if the weather gets dry again.
Nice ride Chris
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh, I know...the other comment...I wear a kemimoto heated jacket and it is one size bigger than what I wear so that I can still wear my level 2 armor underneath it. I used to ride to work when it was cold but it only took 20 minutes so I could take the cold. Heated gear and warmer heated grips (the F3 has only one setting, so I have heated grip wraps) have been a game changer for me and extended my riding season. Yes, you have to stay warm!
I’m intrigued by heated gear. I’ll see if I can go through this winter without it. I’ve ridden my two wheel motorcycles in winter for years, though never on slick roads.
@@SpyderChrisYT You are very brave and to be riding on those slick roads. Be careful!
Hope you are able to meet your goal of not having a car. We don't have the ability for insta cart delivery or ubers here where we live, but we only have one car ...and a tractor lol
My biggest concern is corrosion from salt. We’ll see what transpires after this first full winter.
@SpyderChrisYT Yes, I understand that. It's raining here and all our snow melted so that means the roads are cleaned off and I'll be able to take a ride on the next nice day!
@ enjoy!
@@SpyderChrisYT thank you💜🤗
Gotta love YT...left you a comment yesterday and it's not here...let's see if I can remember what I wrote...maybe it was too long, lol...I'll try splitting it up! I wouldn't think you would have an issue starting with it being on the trickle charger, but who knows. I keep mine plugged in whenever I'm not riding, even in the summer months. Pretty Christmas decorations. Would love to see those at night.
That’s odd about a disappearing comment. I had someone else tell me a comment disappear, they speculated it has something to do with a link if I recall.
@@SpyderChrisYT links I think are a setting you can change. I know I don't allow links on comments in my channel. I didn't leave a link though so I don't know what the problem was 😅🤷♀️
Looking forward to your Christmas ride. Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
Thanks for watching! I’ll schedule a nice Christmas video for the Sunday before Christmas.
Got it, just as I thought. Keep up the good Spyder work.
So Chris, what's in RI?
Family.
I think the rider point of view is awesome. I love your videos. They are very informative.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing your experiences about Spyder long journey, reliability, handling, and comfort.. Last month I completed a coast to coast journey, from Florida to California and back on my 2018 Spyder RTL. The 7300 mile adventure was a trip of a lifetime. My Spyder performed flawlessly, the comfort was outstanding, and the handling and performance we're awesome. I've ridden in the flatlands, mountains, and other challenging areas. I've done the tale of the dragon. Numerous times as well as the back of the dragon several times. I consider the Spyder the Ferrari of motorcycles. I had no problems mechanical or electrical with the bike. On average, I got 32 to 35 mpg, depending upon the quality of the gas, the riding conditions, etc. This was my second long journey with my Spyder. I now have over 40,000 miles on it. I am planning another 7000 miles plus trip for next summer up into the Rockies. I have the utmost confidence in my 2018 Can Am Spyder RTL. Bob in Florida.
Wow! Thanks, Bob! I hope to do a cross country trip at some point. I’d love to ride down the Pacific Coast Highway.
You 100% need a trickle charger, good on you for that. What they don't tell you at the dealership is the spyders, RT, rykers have a 40 MINUTE DRAW DOWN time. I.E. the bike will continue to draw more than necessary for 40 minutes after it's shut off. This results in serious battery issues. Tire pressure a little low. Coming from a can am shop, tire pressure is 25 +/- 3 to 5.
Great info, thanks!
I’m toasty warm at home and have a good chill watching this.
From December 1st to March 15th, winter tires are compulsory here in Quebec, which makes it virtually impossible to ride the Spyder. Plus, the amount of snow and some of the frigid weather we get is not suited nor good for the Spyder. I am glad you are capable of riding this time of the year and I am looking forward to your Florida trip.
Thanks for the info!
@SpyderChrisYT that's the great thing about the Spyder community; sharing a passion and sharing the info!
Stop and lookat the warming store you can get heated gear there . I wreckamond gloves coat liner pants a 2 zone controller you nead that and a wireless remote and a controller clip on pouch from California heatI have all fo theas items. It was worth the $750.00 or you can check out heated 4 you, I think there having a sail. You will nead 18 inch power extension and a flush mount plug in and 90° connector wier mail on the 90° and femail on the end of the spiral wound. wire. The California heat gear hash lifetime warranty. Included on all closing items. All items are wind and waterproof. I have all that gear and I like it. It keeps me warm, has not failed me. Yet.
I may add heated gear at some point, but I’ve been riding in the winter season (not on snow) for years without it so I’m not in any rush.
Check out Hot Wired coat and pants from Cycle Gear. Clothing is like a thin windbreaker material but will keep you very warm in this kind of weather. Clothing has a cable running from your Spyder battery for power. Highly recommended.
Go easy Chris in the cold weather especially when there is ice around! I know in the park you mentioned salt but do you have gritters to take care of the main streets? Also, a lot of people have heated under garments like Keis that they plug up to the bike or indiviual battery packs to keep them warm. 🥶🥶👍👍
I don’t have heated gear, but it’s something I need to consider. Thanks for watching!
Good information, appreciate the vlogs.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this vidéo, I appreciate a lot. Carefull on the road.
Thanks for watching!
Heated jacket liner. It's a game changer 😊🌞
I see Gary beat me to the punch 👍 You'll wonder why you waited so long.
Heated liner is a game changer.
I’ve heard. I don’t have heated gear, but it’s on my radar screen.
Yeah, no thanks to riding in weather this cold. Bravo to you for making your choices work but my Spyder is all packed away safe in the garage until spring. I'll hopefully get it out on the early side, don't mind some chill... But chill, not freeze. lol I am very interestingly watching though to see how things go for you throughout the winter.
It should be an interesting winter. Thanks for watching!
Thanks again for sharing another video. I always enjoy watching and learning something. Safe travels.
@@charleyhough4355 thanks for watching!
fun stuff
Be careful out there! I remember slipping and sliding on Rochester roads, especially when snow is on top of the ice.
Thanks! My next video will have more snow and ice.
@@SpyderChrisYT If you're going to wear standard clothing during your rides, I'd suggest getting Bohn armor shells to wear underneath. I have the jacket and pants that are Lycra with armor.
I prefer your helmet cam 80-90% of the time and the rest from the handlebar mount. Don’t care for the 360 cameras.
I appreciate the input, thanks!
HI Chris, which tires do you use? I do have a 2017 Spyder RT limited and I need to use it during winter here in Ottawa. There is a lot snow and freezing rain sometimes. Unfortunately, its not a minimalist approach but rather a necessity. That's going to be my first winter riding. I really appreciate any advice you can share. Thanks and good luck to you Chris you are awesome.
I use the stock Kenda tires that came with the Spyder. I just shot a video that is scheduled for December 15th, riding on slick icy roads. I posted a couple of videos back in March in similar conditions you may find helpful. Good luck and ride safe!
Good topic...I think the best view is the one you enjoy using/editing when creating your content. So use what you like! Everyone is different and not everyone likes the same things. Congrats on your 2K subs. That's great! 💜💜🤗🤗✌🏼✌🏼
Thank you!!!
Hi Chris, really appreciate your youtube channel.
Thank you so much!
Being a native Buffalonian who left in ‘91. I love watching your videos and gettin a glimpse of home and a cool Spyder !!
Thank you for watching. I’ve posted many videos riding down the 190 between downtown Buffalo and the waterfront.
cameras don't matter as long as video and audio quality is good. walterific has over 2 million subs and has only ever used one camera. I don't feel like messing with the 360's, it's not worth the hassle unless you are doing a ton of group rides and stuff.
I’ll have to check out Walterific, thanks!
My point of view ? Spyder minimalist...I like the driver POV to visit new areas I won't see otherwise. The "arial POV" is not adding to my experience. I do not like camera pointed toward the driver. It is not a back and forth conversation and I don't want to watch you ride. If you must have a face pointed camera, do it stopped where I have the feeling you are concentrated on the viewed and not distracted by driving... The content is what keeps us coming back, not fancy camera tricks.
Very good points, and much appreciated.
Change the name of this video to "I just talk the entire time and never actually USE the radio.. " Cause your title is misleading as hell. Thanks for wasting my time, enjoy the downvote for doing so.,
I really appreciate the comment. It helps my channel and I do appreciate it.
Just a shout out to Y-DER and S.I Ryker who shoot vlogs with cameras facing them and the also give front facing views. I enjoy watching their vlogs as much as watching yours and I don't really have any objections to any viewing preferences. I have also watched others who have cameras on the side of the bike, showing wheels turning and forward motion. Check out Richy Vida and Freddie Dobbs for some great motorcycle vlogs and views from different angles of the bikes. I think those insta 360's have some great features.
I watch Y-DER and S I Ryker as well, and enjoy them thoroughly. I’ll have to check out the others.
There's no "one" best setup. Based on the success of your channel growth, your setup is just fine, Chris. However, if you're like most of us, and it sounds like you are, you will start thinking about trying something different. I felt the same as you before I added my 360 camera, but I took the leap, and I was worried I wouldn't like it, and it might be too much work or too complicated. Well, it is more editing work, but for me, I found that I really enjoy 360 editing. Pretend you're sitting in the very center of a sphere. The entire sphere is the footage that the 360 camera creates, and now you get to have all the fun during editing of choosing the size of the frame you want to put into your video, and you get to swivel yourself and the frame all around yourself to capture different directions, all completely under your control, and YOU are controlling abd choosing where the frame is pointing. It's actually fun doing that in editing. For me, I got hooked on doing this part of the editing, and I really enjoy it. It means I never worry about where the camera is pointing at the time I'm recording, and I have found some funny things that the camera captured, during editing, that I didn't see while riding, because the camera captures everything. My concern at first, how long does it take to learn how to edit 360 footage. I am NOT an expert with the 360, far from it, but I did find that the learning curve for editing 360 was far easier than learning how to edit when I first started. All you need to do is watch some "how to edit 360 videos", there's plenty of them out there. Last thing, today for the most part, I only use 1 camera, and it's my 360, and I can get all the multiple angles I want ftom just 1 camera, and I sometimes use 2 cameras. So ask yourself, Chris. Do you need a 2nd camera? Probably not. But do you want to start adding more interesting stuff or camera angles to your videos? Maybe you do, maybe not, but that's up to you, not us, it's your channel, you get to do what you want. For now, I'm pretty sure you don't have any regrets how well you've done with your channel, so if you're considering changing things, just choose something you want, not what we want. But for anyone who likes you or your channel, they're not going to complain to you if you've added diffeerent canera views to your videos. Just keep having fun so that you enjoy creating your content. 😁👍👍
Incredibly good input. The sphere analogy is excellent. Thanks!
Insta 360 is nice. I do like what you have now though
The set up you have now is great, but I have seen other vlogger's use the 360 on motor bikes car's, air planes helicopter's etc and does bring a cool look if its not on the globe like setting and more like following like setting.
I prefer your current setup. While you are a handsome man and all. The camera facing the driver doesn’t do anything to improve my viewing experience. For reasons I won’t go into. Owning a Spyder isn’t in the cards for me,so your vlog is my opportunity to feel like I’m actually on the bike.
Hello Chris, I like the POV chin mount on helmet. I primarily use the same. I do use a 2 camera (GoPro) set up sometime; one facing me. I got the hang of syncing both and alternating playback. I use DaVinci Resolve for post edit. Hope that helps.
It does, thanks!
Thank you
I want to video log my spyder rides, get opinions, most say not to use helmet cam, instead use 360 cam, if I could get your suggestion
I would watch this video to see how I handle my motovlog: Motovlog Setup: A Tutorial ua-cam.com/video/bbkdeovlTBo/v-deo.html
Speaking of the Bills. I live in Western NY and know that Buffalo got hit with a few feet of snow. Did you get that in Niagra Falls? Be careful in this weather.
Niagara Falls is dry. We don’t get hit with the snow that they get south of Buffalo. Thanks for checking in!
I like the way you are doing the video. It looks exactly like when I'm riding my Spyder.
Thank you!
I like your current setup!
Thank you!
Those 360 cams are cool, but you do what you want. I like the view you currently use!
Thank you!
@ your welcome
Hi Chris, I like your current vlogging set up. I’m not a fan of the 360 cameras as the views are very distorted for me.
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated!
I prefer the way you film it as a point of view. No offense meant but I don’t want to see video of you driving with the camera facing you. The old saying, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
Much appreciated, thanks!
