- We return to the Midland Railway Butterley to continue our exploration of the sites signalling thanks to our hosts the Midland Railway Butterley,Alex Homer and Michael Powell for this in depth look at Swanwick Junction Signalbox and it’s very interesting signalling, plus a look at some of the other cabins on site in their various uses.
Signal gantry came from Guiseley Junction
The 4 Blocks you saw in the Demonstration Box are in fact 2 Blocks for a 2 track line, One Pegger (Forr Accepting) and one Non-Pegger (For Offering) per 2 track line, with a Bell for each pair, so for a simple double track box you have 6 items on the shelf! 2 Bells, 2 Peggers and 2 Non-Peggers!
Many thanks, it’s a lovely setup there, worth another look at some point when there’s a gala on 👍
As you say such an interesting set of signals, sad to see their condition looks bereft of care. I have no doubt that the pandemic has not helped in that regard and would love to know if the situation is planned to be resolved ASAP. These are priceless relics of signalling.
Yes the s and t are working upon that, as you say the pandemic has prevented a lot of work being undertaken
The railway is in the process of track relating presently and when I visited they were about to do a shakedown of Swanwick cabin post pandemic.
