Really quite remarkable and, unlike certain other extremely large layouts, this one is actually a world in miniature such is the attention to detail. Your own modelling skills are outstanding, and I learn a great deal from your scenic work, but kudos to you for showcasing exemplary home-grown talents that are the very pinnacle of the hobby.
Years ago I obtained some drawn grooved tramway rail in nickel silver and made an OO tramway. I have never seen the like since. So easy to make crossings and turnouts-no extra check rails. Without the equipment or a milling machine, I can only cheat in my final 3/4 inch (1/16) scale tramway and fabricate grooved rail using fine scale OO rail for the separate check rail.
Another fascinating video. I'm all for Great British manufacturing 👍✌️😊💜 I use a lot of Peco products and my father and I used to have good links with their editorial team for RM.
Great update Simon especially the Peco visit 😊 I managed a few sneaky trips round Healy Mills depot towards the end of its life. It’s sad seeing how it’s all overgrown and neglected 😢
Superb video Simon! I visited Peco with my daughter and few years ago and enjoyed … great to see behind the scenes inside the factory; very impressive kit! Also great to see the project progressing; the depot buildings look superb … totally bonkers project; love it!! One question; will you be adding any electricity pylons to the layout? Good luck with the next stages … look forward to the updates 👍 Mark
Cheers Mark, good point about the electricity pylons I know Severn Models do them in OO but I could do with a couple in O. Thanks for your support and the kind comments. Simon
Simon, another great video. Really great to see Healey Mills depot building coming along nicely. The depot building was nearly brought back into use by Marcroft as thr Horbury Goods yard was proving too small and difficult to access/shunt. Unfortunately it was leased to EWS and Marcroft intended to maintain Freightliner coal wagons at the depot, so that was the end of the idea. The inspection pit were cleared as a start. This would have been around 2004.
Interesting to see the track made. However when I imported some O scale points into Canada all the paperwork said Country of Origin China which seems to contradict what the Peco guy says in the video.
I’ve just laid 150’ of OO gauge code 100 concrete sleeper pandrol flexitrack. It’s wonderful however like many I find the sleepers too close and respaced the whole lot dropping 30 sleepers off each 910mm length, it looks so much better. Would save Peco a bit in plastic if they could do it for us! 😉
I quite agree. It would save them money in plastic. Re spacing them is definitely worth it. Ive done it in O gauge and the difference is very noticeable. Thanks for watching the videos! Simon
@@britainsbiggestmodelrailwa1428 Let me know if you want any more info, I was there to help look after it when it first arrived and got involved in a few mods and repairs. The crane has also been refurbished since it left HM.
Thank You ! As a North American modeller; I have used PECO track since the Early-70's ... Now using its Code # 83 range exclusively. As a ( Now retired ) Rubber + Plastcs / Polymer : Raw Materials supplier; I was fortunate to have visited the then Fenton MO / USA-based : Micro-Engineering factory in 2010 but sadly; have never made it to PECO itself ! In both cases; the labour-accented production process is indeed interesting; but may I humbly suggest that you re-visit the quality of the narration as it undoubtedly compromises the overall video presentation .... 🤙
It was great for you to pop by on your way back from Peco to see the current progress on the Healey Mills depot. Interesting how they make the O gauge concrete track now. If only that had been available back then for you Simon....oh well. Thanks again Steve Railway Laser Lines
HM seems a little more busy these days with the transpennine upgrades and other planned developments. So Network Rail might decide to use the land more on the back of all this TP investment.
the sound is terrible - sorry you cant hear for the baackground noises. I am losing my hearing and I can barely hear the guys talking. Would have been better with an added on interview. 😢 I cant watch it .😔
2 years ago i went here, only the shop / layouts etc, very unimpressed with the whole set up. i bought nothing too. the wife who is not really into it thought the same
@@britainsbiggestmodelrailwa1428 lol how about honesty? did you think the layouts were good? the cafe good? shop area well stocked and a vast choice? considering how long peco has been there a long while i expected better, a lot better. maybe it's me ?

Not much made in the U.K. these days 😊

You are going to need to model the Clarke Chapman 75t breakdown crane ADRC96714 which was at HM. Luckily, it still exists on the Gwili Railway.
Now that’s a great idea! 👍
