You gave Apple a huge pass on the stylus front: the Pencil Pro is a $130 accessory, not included like the S-Pen. If you're looking at add-on pens, there are a lot of options for the S10. Not just the typical Creator Edition, Wacom One and Norris Digital, but Remarkable/Remarkable 2 pens also work with it. Even the Kindle Scribe Premium Pen.
There are also iPad pens that cost around $12, so you can choose. You are trying to justify your choice when, in fact, Apple accessories are amongst the biggest choices you can have, from pens to cases to keyboards.
@@andyH_England That $12 stylus is still an extra accessory you have to buy. $12 > $0. An honest question: does that super cheap stylus give a quality experience with pressure and tilt control, and good line quality? Are there off-brand Apple Pencil-alternative devices at that sort of price?
There's also the King Write EMR pen that has a side button and an eraser. I switched over from ipad to galaxy because wacom pen/emr devices have eraser support if you can find a pen that has one!
I feel like the Apple Pencil needs to get mentioned in the accessories category - you were talking about the cost of the cases, but the Apple Pencil has a cost too, it's not a pack-in. To get started drawing on iPad you need to to budget for both the tablet and pencil, whereas the Samsung is ready out of the box.
I got the S10+, its just amazing. I feel like I have the power of PC with me because of the file management system, how it deals with multi tasking, how it deals with secondary screens, the multiple volume controls, the link with Windows PC, etc... Not to mention the AI features, that I thought I was gonna forget about them and never use again, but some of them are actually usefull. The circle to search and that object generator are amazing! Artsy-wise, I think there is not much of a difference, but feature-wise Samsung (Android) is miles ahead. Oh, and the ecossystem... Unless you really need some apple exclusive apps, their ecossystem is totally overrated. There are some really impressive stuff you can do on Samsung's ecossystem that people dont even talk about. For instance, did you know that Quick Share is faster than Airdrop and you can share stuff with other devices and not just Samsungs (even with apple devices)? There is a whole lot of other features that people dont mention, and even Samsung fails to advertise properly.
I use my iPad every day, and here’s what I can say. Although this product has been on the market for a long time and plenty of great software is available for this undoubtedly fantastic device, it’s still a companion device. Alas!!! It’s very unfortunate and extremely frustrating that working with the file system is awful and inconvenient, apps constantly crash, and parts of the work often get lost… and that’s incredibly critical for a professional. I have to go back to my computer to complete some of the simplest tasks, just because my iPad, for some unknown reason, cannot handle them. For example, yesterday it stopped downloading my files from iCloud! What was that??? Or I can’t finish my work because the Affinity Designer app just closed by itself. I use m2 iPad Pro 2 tb. So can’t tell it is an old device. Thanks for your work!
Thanks for your comment since I was thinking about getting the ipad mini. Now idk since files isn't good and how Affinity designer is acting up. Plus samsung tab is close to windows with the how its open.
@@aoterou I think the M2 series is where Apple got complacent with quality control. I never heard complaints about M1 users in the long term. But Just this past year I've heard complaints from people who bought M2 ipads and M3 macbooks. M1 was really king. What happened...
M2 iPads are not old even if you have gotten one second-hand. I've only ever used affinity photo on my 2020 ipad pro, but gave up on it quickly because importing and exporting files between apps was more work on the apple ecosystem than it was worth, but I wonder if Affinity just doesn't put caps or limitations on function like procreate does to stay within your ipad's allowable memory. My base model ipad from 2018 would absolutely shut apps on me once the lag kicked in. Procreate never crashed, but once the canvas got large enough, it lagged enough to be unusable anyway.
@@justpain3637 How about some kind of storage device? However it's been a while since I connected a portable storage device but a while ago before cloud, the quicker way used to be burn to a DVD? so i just moved to ipad, bought old m1 ipad, ngl for me nothing changed wether i draw on android, ipad or tablet display for pc nothing really a game changer my drawing efficiency is the same, the pnly difference is that now i can draw anywhere i want. and i really enjoyed procreate and procreate dreams
@@kipporah i also move from medibang > krita > CSP (PC) and then now procreate. the only difference is features and preference that’s all. you can make god tier llustration in krita
A few things. It's quite obvious that you don't do video editing on either of these tablets. On the iPad, those apps use no plugins and are very limited. In fact, on Android, you have the same level of video editing apps like LumaFusion, PowerDirector, etc. Long story short, none of these devices are suitable for professional-like video editing. Also, Samsung had plenty of various cases, and you mentioned only one.
Hi Brad, worth noting that the high-end keyboard case for the Galaxy does have a hinge similar to a Surface Pro allowing for a much greater range of drawing angles. Also the Galaxy covers are all interchangeable. So you can use the keyboard front with the folio back, and vice versa. Not that this should affect your opinion, but viewers might like to know that.
Hey Brad, I'm pretty new to this world, hoping to get a drawing tablet this Christmas to get my digital art thing going. Really appreciate your channel here! I've been binging your videos comparing the different samsungs to see what I'll go for. Very straightforward. Very helpful. You're awesome, dude. Go buy yourself a churro.
The biggest reasons I went with iPad were the OLED display, the Apple Pencil, and iCloud integration. Though every time I see you show off the Samsung I can’t help but think how awesome a device that looks to be.
YES! Im hoping this means the S7 FE will get cheaper too. Its kinda sad that they all hit the same bottom price no matter how old they get though. I haven't seen an S7 FE under 250 on ebay yet, but I'm hopeful that one day I'll see one for under 200..
I love my Samsung S6 Lite with Clip Studio. I have everything i need: free brushes, .psd files, "infinite" layers, pen and case included, sd card! And for a regular price!
do you have the old S6 Lite from 2020 or the newer one? People swear by RAM these days, but on tablets you just dont need any more than 6. Like you said, infinite layers. Of course if you're one of those . . . "different" people, anything less than 500 is unacceptable. but I can't think of any feasible reason why you'd need that. A layer for a finger nail is pretentious
Forgot to mention too that for accessories, unlike apple, android will work with 99% of all bluetooth devices out of the box. So you can do a nice desktop mouse and keyboard if you want, through bt or usb even.
Weight in a pen makes you feel "oh high quality" but i find that the actual quality is nicer with the s pen (mostly the nib) and also a lightweight pen will be much more comfortable in long sessions personally
Some company needs to figure out how to get good pen tech, desktop class software compatibility (like Aseprite, Unreal, GMS2, Photoshop) and the ease of use of android / iPadOS into one device. I love these mobile tablets, but their biggest drawback is software (especially ipad). I hate having to carry around a tablet AND a laptop just to get the stuff I need to get done as a game artist.. I would rather use a Surface b/c of this even though the pen tech is bad.
Look into Moonlight. If you know you will have reliable internet wherever you go (even coffee shop wifi is usually good enough) and you have a computer at home plugged into LAN, you can stream your desktop pretty much lag free from wherever you are. I'm also a game dev and I use this daily. It's become THE essential piece of software for me since now I just need a tablet (and keyboard cover) and I'm always ready to work.
Mhm, i don't know man. I prefer multiple monitors for effective work, but not necessarily for drawing. Wouldn't want to replace my pc, but it would be nice to have a nice work and drawing setup on the go if i need it, which isn't truely effectively possible either at the moment.
I haven't the time to look through the comments in case someone has clarified this, but the back stand on the Samsung cover does fold to support the pad in the vertical position as well as the horizontal.
These are both great devices. Like you have mentioned before I feel like your going to go with whichever ecosystem your already in. I have found the best experience is to match your phone. Iphone -ipad. galaxy phone- galaxy tab. One plus combo is good too phone and tab. As I mentioned before I just started my new comic myself (Noir style detective comic based on my dog) its cooler than it sounds lol. I recently switched to an aandroid phone after being an iphone user for years, and honesty im liking it a bit more so I decided to get an s9 fe+ and they pair so well together. I do all my drawing on my desktop though with a huion kamvas 22 + QLED. Very affordable massive drawing screen and quality too especially for the price.
@@thebradcolbow The goal is a dark noir detective story all main characters are animals, side characters and like comedic one off ones may be humans. IDK seemed cool when I was writing it.
I cant agree, mainly because if you're an artist, the "ecosystem" that matters in your workflow isn't the one from your phone. It's the one that has your files, which for most people would be their PC. While Apple has MacOS, I've never found it to be super friendly with iPadOS. Since Windows isnt either Android or Apple, its sorta just about visual vs practical preference at that point
@@theinkticiani think it's about practical preference. The apps and programs i use work significantly better on my private windows pc than in my work mac. And my pc was significally less expensive and is still stronger on top. BUT if you got more than one apple product they are really nice. In my country most people use android devices, that's why most of the time no one can really make use of the apple ecosystem which interacts great with every apple device. With a windows pc i don't have this great ecosystem, but i can make everything on my pc personal to my needs without it trying to lock me out from it... so, it's totally a practical needs thing, yeah.
Missing category - use as a drawing screen for a desktop? Would be good to see how well the devices support a rival OS too (iPad with a PC and an Android with a Mac is at all)
I love my iPad to bits but I would never buy it again. The flexibility of Samsung and android are more valuable to me compared to the polish of the iPad os. Though the iPad has odd bugs too
@@anaserratails4892 I think that it depends on whether you have other Apple products. If you have a Mac then you can do more with your iPad like using it as a second screen easily and the iCloud and syncing features are great too. I don't own other Apple devices so i can't really benefit from that.
ipad os is super user-unfriendly, but it does seem to have way better creative app support. i am hoping for krita to arrive on ipad sometime now that third-party app stores are available, procreates fine but imo krita is much more enjoyable to sketch with
The thing that's disappointing for me when it comes to Galaxy vs Apple for drawing is that it would be the only Apple product I own. And I think I'd have to get a new CSP license for it :/ Apple has done a great job. The pencil and apps alone are awesome, just thinking about sharing files between OSs. Although, I use OneDrive, so it'll prob be fine...
I just can’t see paying these prices right now. Not in this economy. Probably why I’m still using my old 2018 , 3rd Gen 12.9 iPad Pro. But, when I do finally decide to upgrade, it will be with a new Samsung tablet and phone.
Correct decision, prices are insane and apple especially will not change anything about that in the future. Only what worries me is that samsung is often one of the first to jump is apples negative footsteps
I'm still using the same iPad Pro as you. Been considering upgrading to a Tab Ultra but then ZBrush came out on iOS and now I'm unsure. Maybe I'll wait a bit longer.
@@jamesbulloyou can use the ultra as a screen display with ur pc if you have z brush there,,, not the same experience as the on the go ipad z brush but an alternative option:)
One thing of note, in the accessories category, is you can actually buy the Apple Magic Keyboard case dealy ... I've been trying to find the Samsung keyboard cover with the trackpad for my S9 Ultra and it basically does not exist. Not in Canada at least. Even Samsung's own website doesn't have it. So 3rd party cases it is - and yeah, I picked up a Royal Kludge mechanical keyboard to go with it for travel. The REAL deciding factor is if you are already an iOS or Android user. If you're already using/used to Apple stuff, the iPad is a no brainer. If you're an Android user, iPadOS will likely frustrate you because it won't work well with anything else you're using that isn't also an Apple product. The Galaxy at least works pretty well with other Android devices and most importantly your existing Windows computer. That's really, in my eyes, the biggest factor to consider. Otherwise, both are great premium options.
watching this on my Ipad pro 11 2018 version and its still runs smoothly. and im sure all other competitions on that year is already 6 feet on the ground right now if not sluggish or lagging and no updates. even the galaxy tab S8 year 2022 pretty much already dusty right now. literally worth the money i paid for on its release day and sure will continue to run good for the next few years. will upgrade to the newer ipad pro and will give this to my son, its still has some good years on it.
@@BearHandsGaming Surely your not surprised right? Drawing doesn't require much on tablets lol. 4GBs of RAM and a 800 series Snapdragon cpu is literally all you need to use Clip Studio without layer-induced lag on android
@@theinktician drawing yeah, maybe?, but been using my ipad with lightroom, Procreate and Lumafusion, this thing can still play new title games as of 2024 no problem like genshin impact, duno if SD can handle that, you may draw on that but rendering and saving how many working days should you wait till its done, not hating, did use Samsung before its fast when its new but when newer device comes out its slows down. and for the fact that you will like get like 3 major updates? if your lucky. and as if developers will still optimize their apps on old android OS
Tried both. I love my iPad Pro more cuz everything runs smooth on it. Not to mention it uses desktop-level chip. I make art as living with it and doing any creative stuff with this thing feels fast and responsive (music making with garage band, editing video with capcut, and graphic design with affinity designer).
A huge missed pro on the Samsung book cover keyboard is the kickstand on the magnetic back. Turns the tablet into a Surface-like device and is worth every penny alone in my mind. More manufacturers need to have adjustable kickstands available for their tablets
You said you are reviewing them from an artist's perspective and you were consistent. So I'm fine with the results. When looking at them as general-purpose devices, the Galaxy Tab wins by a large margin.
After trying the tab s9 and the s10, as well as the ipad in tech stores over the last few weeks, the s pen seems SIGNIFICANTLY worse than the apple pencil, even though I prefer the galaxy tab otherwise and really dislike i(Pad)OS even though I use macOS daily I don't know why my experience was so different from Brad's, but here's what I've noticed, if anyone is interested: The palm rejection works in a bit of an odd way on the Samsung devices - Whenever you move the pen close enough to the screen for it's position to be detected (when you can see that little circle), any and all touch input on the screen is disabled until you lift the pen again. This makes it effectively impossible to hold down the side shortcuts in clip studio to e.g. make a straight line or constrain the aspect ratio of a circle. Luckily you can set those shortcuts to toggle instead of holding them down or connect a bluetooth keyboard. But any action where you would use your finger and the pen at the same time, or even using a menu while you're still hovering over the screen, is impossible. This is _almost_ a disqualifying factor in my eyes, but depends on your usecase. The Apple Pencil does not have that issue, as well as being usable at shallower angles. Over all the Apple Pencil just felt better and more well-rounded when trying it out, epecially with it's weight and the haptic feedback. But it's also a 150€ addon to an already relatively expensive tablet. I tried it again after a while and the difference between the Samsung tablet and the ipad in terms of tilt is way more noticable to me now. The pen doesn't respond at all, if you use it at any angle past maybe 40 degrees off perpendicular, which makes it significantly more frustrating to use for both writing and drawing. The S10s the store had on display didn't have that issue. The store employee I asked said that that's the intended functionality for the S9 series - I'm not sure if I buy that though, because that seems like a significant enough issue that I can't imagine no reviewer mentioning it… One major benefit of any android tablet over an iPad in my eyes is having what I would consider a "real" filesystem where I can work with folders like on a dektop OS and granting Apps limited storage access where applicable instead of having apps siloed to the extent they are on Apple and giving each app it's own storage. As someone who would also read and annotate documents on a tablet, as well as moving around files quite a bit, this is very important to me. microSD is a huge bonus, too, of course. The iPad definitely seems like its ecosystem of apps is a lot more refined though. On the other hand I personally really like that Android feels so much closer to the level of control you have on a desktop OS, even after it became increasingly locked down in recent years. Idk, I just wanted to throw my thoughts out into the world, maybe they're useful to someone else.
I would give the pen point to SAMSUNG because the S-Pen is included for free in the box, and there's an upgraded version called the S-Pen Pro and S-Pen Creative could present a strong competition for the Apple stylus.
Hey Brad, great review as usual. However I disagree with the overall result. IMO the one thing. that kind separate both device and makes a huge difference is the screen !!! Hear me out, the Samsung does not leaves fingerprints !!! You are able to draw without a glove, pinch and zoom without leaving fingerprints all over... It makes a huge difference because for those who don't like the "noise" effect that matte screen protector add to the device, you can actually get the Samsung tab without worrying. Plus you can choose the stylus... Wacom, Staedler, Lamy, S-Pen... Whereas on the iPad you only have one choice. For my part I use the Wacom One to pencil and the Staedler to ink, it's juste a matter of feeling but at least you can choose. I haven't tested the S-Pen Creator edition but apparently it kinda mimics the Apple Pencil. This being said, the problem with Samsung and Android tablets in general is the softwares... They are definitely not up to what you could find on iPads, but hopefully Procreate could get on Android devices soon.
Are you sure those 3rd party stylus which have plastic nibs aren't gonna damage your Tab screen or feel too smooth for control? There's a reason the S-Pen has a rubber tip which is made for glass smooth surfaces.
Regarding the DeX. I'm using it every day with bluetooth keyboard and mouse (except I'm in bed. Even then I sometimes connect to 65" TV). I connect S8 Ultra to external monitor and I have Dex on it with reference images, mails, UA-cam, etc, and using the tablet for drawing. The feeling is like you connect Wacom Grafic Tablet to the PC. Very nice and useful feature.
The problem for me is that I'm both deep in to the Android eco system (and could never dream of making the switch) AND the Affinity apps which apparently will never work with other than the iPad. On one hand I feel like I have prioritized the right products for me but is still missing out on some good integrated workflow!
I have an iPad 9th gen that i use every day for drawing and just general use, i plan on upgrading this november, unfortunately, apple’s price ladder got me… i started at an iPad Air 11 inch, and ended up wanting to get an 11” iPad Pro…
Great comparison, that you very much! I am a massive Apple fanboy, but considering the Samsung one just to try it out. As a traveling photographer with assignments all over the globe I used to bring 2022 M2 iPad Pro as my only editing machine. Amazing and quick in Lightroom even though files was 80mb/61mp big. The only thing I really hated and something that made me sell it, it was the file handling. It was so slow importing and exporting photos. Lightroom also took up storage even though I deleted the RAW files. So, now and then I had to reinstall Lightroom. I know, luxury problem but every second counts. And this is not supposed to be fixed on M4. Enough rambling. Questions: 1. How does it handle Lightroom? 2. How is the import/export speed? 3. Battery life on full power, is it as good as iPad Pro? And just wanna add, here in Sweden the 200 dollar keyboard is included when buying Samsung 10 / Ultra. Which also is freaking nice. Thank you!
Not quite comprable, but Lumafusion still works amazing as a very-nearly pro video editor for Android. Hoping for that enhanced keyframing to come soon🙏.
I will say that with the pre-order of the Samsung Galaxy Tab s10 Ultra, Samsung included the premium keyboard case and pencil. So, even though it is not as powerful, and there are not as many big name brand apps... it does become a much more affordable build into an ecosystem.
Thank you very much for comparison. I'm curious about battery long term usage. Like, after 3-4 yrs. I have S8 Ultra, and after using it for 1.5 yrs everyday for art and enjoying, I can say that battery significantly depleted. In beginning it was 8-9 hours and now 5-6. I love the size of my Samsung and will keep it (Samsung line) but I'm interested in new function of Apple pencil - Pen Rotation for art creating. I'm using Wacom Art Pen on PC in Rebelle, so I'm spoiled with that option :) Thank you in advance.
I have an iPad Pro and a MacBook, using it with sidecar has been such an upgrade. I used to work with a surface book 2 and that was such a waste of money
Why dont they just combine the two aspect ratios to become a 3:2 display? Its what we see a ton of in traditional media anyway. 16x24, 24x36 - companies that supply mixed media paper and canvases have been supplying these in bulk for ages. The transition has been getting easier. Why stop at 16:10?
Yeah it's the best aspect ratio IMO. There are lots of chinese 3:2 tablets though. Apple should make 13.5" (or bigger) 3:2 iPad Pro. 11" iPad Pro is 3:2.
Really good review. Very unbiased through the lens of an artist. I'm more samsung, but that's because I have samsung phones and a Windows laptop. I plug my tablet into my TV to use as a media center so dex makes more sense. (Anyone remember WebTV or just me? Lol Eventually, I will be getting a TV that I can wirelessly cast dex to.) Also, audio production is nicer on 16:10 screen. Audio production apps are technically better on Apple, but both are great if you know how to navigate.
You can't give the pen to the iPad as you must buy it separately while the s10 it comes free.. That also applies to the accessories. I got the keyboard cover for free with the device
Beside what people are saying about the apple pencil in the comments, didn't samsung release a professional pen for artists just like the apple pen? Would have loved for this to be included in your already great review
I have a galaxy tab s9+ and recently bought the newest ipad with every possible upgrade, specifically for zbrush. I figured I would move over to ipad but hounestly I hate the operating system, so now I am using the ipad for zbrush and my galaxy for everything else. I had been excited to try procreate finaly but I found that I prefer clip studio. I did buy a stand so now I can watch videos on one while I sculpt on the other on the couch and that has been nice. I do like the apple pencil though!
Personally i would . Keep in mind that I have a deep seated hatred for apple and i have used galaxy tabs, phone , and laptops for a long time so i am very bias. I did try to keep an open mind since i spent 3k on the tablet but the interface just feels clunky to me. It's worth 3k just as a zbrush device though, at least for me.
I wanted to get Samsung, but I got iPad for procreate but turns out procreate don't have customizable key binds and apple pencil is really bugging me out. It only lasts for 5-6 hours of drawing and iPad screen is already bent out of the box. And they said the problem too small to replace. Really bad experience.
thanks for comparing them as tablets, and not as a pc alternatives don’t need the whole ordeal with keyboards and stuff, it’s nice to see new features & possibilities but the tablet is a tablet first, and then all that pc stuff people keep talking about
Tab S10's SoC this year seems like has issue about battery management, it is observably has less device up-time than last year Tab S9 and it has some issue with 5G variants. In the end, if you are working in the creative, iPad will be your best investment for at least next 3 years. This is coming from Galaxy Tab S9 user. I chose Galaxy Tab S9 because it was cheaper, came with S-Pen, and expandable storage. I need S-Pen for note taking at best. I always wonder why Samsung won't follow Apple by giving more square-ish screen ratio.
One thing they dont tell you is that the microsd storage does not merge with internal storage. You wont be able to store your games using it unlike older versions
Idk if you've done this and i'm sorry if it's too much to ask, but i wish you'd list recommended tablets and/or 2-1 laptops with their ups&downsides. Cuz too many people just complaining on your vids that confuses me to the point i feel like none of those worth to buy lol😅. And i hope you'd specify the consumer needs too (like whether they're fully drawing on the gadget or simply do editing or nothing of that at all)..thanks..
Having fun in this review aren't you? And thanks for the Remarkable 2 review I thought about buying it just to write journal entries at night so I don't hurt my eyes and for that purpose it would be great but I decided for that price I might as well just get an Ipad air and a good pen No confetti, LOL
IMO the ratio is actually quite a big thing in favor of iPad. You will use all of the vertical space in landscape mode while drawing, but you very rarely use the side space in this setup. If I am using a 16/9 format I will have to make a layout in CS Paint with a great deal of palette displayed at all time on the left or this will be completely wasted. Also if I use a timeline, this will need to eat on the whole available height no matter what, oof. Unfortunately Apple being dumb ruined that a bit by having a mandatory line taken just for its frigging multi task controller. Offering us to trade something useful 99,9% of the use time for something useful 0.1% of the use time. Genius designers, really. OTOH the current pricing of iPad is horrible, with you having to pay extra for the version that has the best drawing texture and apparently some $500 tablet have a better one. If Pro Create Dream reach *actual* 1.0 though it could be a final cut reason all by itself. Also suspect this one will be harder to copy than pro create.
I think you are for forgetting that the S10 Ultra has a screen that is just as high and much wider. You aren't sacrificing any screen since you are getting more on the horizontal and the same vertical space. And with that the S10 Ultra wins overall
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Oh I know that. But I have the iPad and i am patiently waiting for something operationally bigger and S10 isn't. It has more surface, but not really more surface that I can actually use. Unfortunately Samsung will never embrace the best format for artist, so we have to wait for Apple to actually release a 15inch iPad pro which they're taking they're damn sweet time to do. Or maybo some other brand will do it. We'll see.
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI No. Neither is great imo but the ipad does have a bit more flexibility. I wish a manufacturer would just combine the two to make a 3:2 aspect ratio, since thats what people actually us in most traditional media. Mixed media and canvases at 24x36 and 16x24 galore. Colleges stock up on these like crazy

I just bought the samsung (now waiting for it to arrive). For me the main thing is that I'm an android, windows and linux user, so it doesnt make sense for me to get an apple product as it wont work with my othrr devices. Mainly this video for me was seeing if it will be good enough for drawing as I've only ever heard people raving about the ipad for drawing. I'm glad to see it was still worth getting 😊 Question though, as a complete digital artist novice, would you suggest just using the already installed drawing app on samsung, or downloading something else?
hi, Mr. Brad which one do you think is better between ipad pro M1 with pencil gen 2 vs ipad air m2 with pencil pro. since they have similar price point. i hope you can read this thank you :)
I started really enjoying krita-ai-diffusion because I can't draw that well (10:10). I'd need to use a remote server, but my desktop can't run flux 1.1 very well either. All of a sudden I'm sorta tempted to get an android tablet...or a 16" 4k screen that has touch input.
12:55 i wish to have better weight towards head of the pen, to me the excessive weight on the rear is too much and i feel it more cause the apple pen is heavier than a regular pen, if the ceter of mass was on the grip zone it wuold be perfect
Also you can go into DEX mode and turn your tablet or phone into a console while your traveling or just at home. Connect your tablet wired or wireless to the tv then connect a Xbox or ps5 controller, play games on your tablet or stream games. Samsung 💪🏾
hey Brad! can you tell me which is the best Samsung tab among S9FE- S7+ and S8 or any Xiaomi tab for an artist? please do reply would love your suggestion before buying one
Brad could you make a course of how to draw, use clip studio paint and make a comic / (manga/ webtoon) with clip studio paint (android/ ipad version) for total beginners ?
the microSD on android is very overrated by reviewers who themselves probably got the 1/2 TB internal storage version. I use a Galaxy Tab with the ability to use a MicroSD slot. Most apps won't move to it. some apps will move but keep crashing. You can't store app cache or data on it. the app MUST BE itself on the card to store its data there. so my large PDFs on Adobe Acrobat are just accumulating on internal storage. you even have to keep moving your files manually to the microSD card. the only app that can automatically save data to the microSD is the camera.
I've always used pc/laptop+graphics tablet for digital art (wich I do as a hobby, not as my actual job), but I've been thinking on switching to a more portable set up and getting a tablet. I'm a windows and android user, wich, together with the price tag, makes me a bit more inclined to a Samsung tab. But I'm wondering about durability. I'd rather not be *forced* to buy a full new device in say 6 or 7 years (I've had my current laptop for almost 10, and only in the last year or so it is really feeling old). I guess the Ipad is more durable, both hardware and support-wise, am I correct? Is there a big difference in this aspect? Either way lately I've wondered if maybe the best would be to break the piggy bank and just get a nice 2 in 1 (of which we need an updated Brad Colbow ranking, IMHO). Now I'm so lost! 😅
@@thebradcolbow Yes. But please, mention which GPU the device possesses? You can easily check with the "CPU-Z" software/application. Freely downloadable as well. GPU also plays a role in performance comparison.
as an M2 iPad owner, this was still rather biased. As peak as apple pencils, its should be important to mention the price of the stylus compared to the spen.
You can feel you biased this review is toward apple. “The iPad Pro is so good outside esp with the textures screen”. Reality: at high brightness you are going to have 2h of battery life max. Yeah great. Money wasted.
@@AChannelINeed I'm not sure why you're unnecessary rude to me...? I use my iPad too outside. And i use normal screens outside too. I do also agree that it will strain the energy way too fast.

@@thebradcolbow Ugh, I can't remember which UA-camr said this comment. That's how you know which phone to get."
I just really love the light and thin S Pen. I know I am a bit alone on this, most people like heavier, thicker pens, but to S Pen is pretty much optimal for me, the Apple Pencil is too fat and too heavy for me. Also think of this: There are thickness/weight adding cases that you can embed a ligher pen in, if you like it heavier and fatter. You can put the Apple Pencil on a diet on the other hand :)
Samsung needs to work out some kind of licensing deal for these high end creative apps, otherwise app support is gonna be an area they continue to lag behind in.
I just wished i could use procreate on android, because i really don't like my iPad that much. Sure there are some nice exclusive apps, but there's so much more i can do with windows and android. The apple systems are just way too locked for me. I hate it.
You always mention the apple pen is an added extra expensive cost but didnt mention it this time. As if it comes with the ipad. Samsung comes with the pen
Only the Samsung Galaxy S10+ and S10 Ultra, along with the S Pen, have an IP68 rating. I've sunk too many iPads in my baths, and the Apple Pencil isn't waterproof either.
Google planning to let Android user install Linux Desktop apps. If that happens Android Tablets will have many more great Desktop grade apps. Also, Gnome planning to port GTK to Android. So, even if Google doesn't let us install Linux apps, Linux app developers will be able to port their existing apps to Android.
@@drewbaker4175 I use a cheap one as I only take notes. With the iPad, you can choose from hundreds of pens for whatever purpose you need.
@@andyH_England none of the 3rd party Apple pens support pressure sensitivity. That's proprietary to the Pencil Gen 2 and Pro models
Yep, excellent point!
Absolutely right
I am liking the pencil pro especially the hover feature feels like a magic wand
100%. With things like samsung dex, and the ability to sideload apps, the samsung tab can be a legit laptop replacement. The iPad cannot.
I agree with you. These are totally companion devices for me. they do a handful of things super well but still most of my day is spent on a PC.
Thanks for your comment since I was thinking about getting the ipad mini. Now idk since files isn't good and how Affinity designer is acting up. Plus samsung tab is close to windows with the how its open.

Whats it called?
Well Brad you forgot to mention that the Apple Pencil has a very high price by itself and that can be a huge down side for some people.
Yep, While Samsung comes with a high quality Stylus, the iPad user has to pay an extra $130 premium for the same experience
Yup reason why I gravitated towards the S Tabs

Some company needs to figure out how to get good pen tech, desktop class software compatibility (like Aseprite, Unreal, GMS2, Photoshop) and the ease of use of android / iPadOS into one device.
I love these mobile tablets, but their biggest drawback is software (especially ipad). I hate having to carry around a tablet AND a laptop just to get the stuff I need to get done as a game artist.. I would rather use a Surface b/c of this even though the pen tech is bad.

Fair assessment I have both and enjoy both equally for their respective pros
These are both great devices. Like you have mentioned before I feel like your going to go with whichever ecosystem your already in. I have found the best experience is to match your phone. Iphone -ipad. galaxy phone- galaxy tab. One plus combo is good too phone and tab. As I mentioned before I just started my new comic myself (Noir style detective comic based on my dog) its cooler than it sounds lol. I recently switched to an aandroid phone after being an iphone user for years, and honesty im liking it a bit more so I decided to get an s9 fe+ and they pair so well together. As a dog lover I'm intrigued :D

I just can’t see paying these prices right now. Not in this economy. Probably why I’m still using my old 2018 , 3rd Gen 12.9 iPad Pro. But, when I do finally decide to upgrade, it will be with a new Samsung tablet and phone.
Yea I want it bad but almost 2k for a tablet is ludicrous. I gotta wait down the line to get a beefy ultra device.

Otherwise, both are great premium options.

cmon brad release the comic already omg. each video we see a bit of it and it's so good
You said you are reviewing them from an artist's perspective and you were consistent. So I'm fine with the results.
When looking at them as general-purpose devices, the Galaxy Tab wins by a large margin.
you NEED to NEED to review Huawei Matepad 12.2 matte with their GoPaint apps
After trying the tab s9 and the s10, as well as the ipad in tech stores over the last few weeks, the s pen seems SIGNIFICANTLY worse than the apple pencil, even though I prefer the galaxy tab otherwise and really dislike i(Pad)OS even though I use macOS daily
I don't know why my experience was so different from Brad's, but here's what I've noticed, if anyone is interested:
The palm rejection works in a bit of an odd way on the Samsung devices - Whenever you move the pen close enough to the screen for it's position to be detected (when you can see that little circle), any and all touch input on the screen is disabled until you lift the pen again.
The store employee I asked said that that's the intended functionality for the S9 series - I'm not sure if I buy that though, because that seems like a significant enough issue that I can't imagine no reviewer mentioning it…
One major benefit of any android tablet over an iPad in my eyes is having what I would consider a "real" filesystem where I can work with folders like on a dektop OS and granting Apps limited storage access where applicable instead of having apps siloed to the extent they are on Apple and giving each app it's own storage.
Idk, I just wanted to throw my thoughts out into the world, maybe they're useful to someone else.
thanks! that was very insightful!
I would give the pen point to SAMSUNG because the S-Pen is included for free in the box, and there's an upgraded version called the S-Pen Pro and S-Pen Creative could present a strong competition for the Apple stylus.
🔴 If Apple added the pen in the box next time next time for just 100$ more I'll by it
Hey Brad, great review as usual.
Cover for Samsung tab actually can be used as a stand not only horizontally, but vertically also
Mr Colbow, you're the best of the best!
I see there is already some discourse in the comments, but if I was interested in the Samsung but wanted a better stylus, what would you recommend?
Regarding the DeX. I'm using it every day with bluetooth keyboard and mouse (except I'm in bed. Even then I sometimes connect to 65" TV). I connect S8 Ultra to external monitor and I have Dex on it with reference images, mails, UA-cam, etc, and using the tablet for drawing. The feeling is like you connect Wacom Grafic Tablet to the PC. Very nice and useful feature.
You should do some drawing tutorials for both tablets.
The problem for me is that I'm both deep in to the Android eco system (and could never dream of making the switch) AND the Affinity apps which apparently will never work with other than the iPad. On one hand I feel like I have prioritized the right products for me but is still missing out on some good integrated workflow!
I love your art and art style. Do you post art regularly anywhere, or have an art/illustration book for sale?
Nope not yet!
I have an iPad 9th gen that i use every day for drawing and just general use, i plan on upgrading this november, unfortunately, apple’s price ladder got me… i started at an iPad Air 11 inch, and ended up wanting to get an 11” iPad Pro…
What's your experience with the iPad? Is it actually good for drawing?
Questions:
I had an ipad and absolutely hated the apple pencil. Genuinely was the worst drawing experience for me. S pen is almost perfect.
So would you recommend the tab more than iPad?
Personally i would . Keep in mind that I have a deep seated hatred for apple and i have used galaxy tabs, phone , and laptops for a long time so i am very bias. I did try to keep an open mind since i spent 3k on the tablet but the interface just feels clunky to me. It's worth 3k just as a zbrush device though, at least for me.
watching this all I can think about is how anybody can convince themselves to pay for either of these???
Not a full time illustrator, for sure hahaha 😢
Don't buy these if you're not a full time artist looking for something very portable to sketch/paint on.
You don't. You convince yourself to wait til launch to buy someone's "old" tab S8+ for $350
I wanted to get Samsung, but I got iPad for procreate but turns out procreate don't have customizable key binds and apple pencil is really bugging me out. It only lasts for 5-6 hours of drawing and iPad screen is already bent out of the box. And they said the problem too small to replace. Really bad experience.
Lmao where did u buy that ipad from
@@salmonie Of course apple store, not every country has stores that care about customers. The only problem is I ordered it fkn online.
thanks for comparing them as tablets, and not as a pc alternatives
don’t need the whole ordeal with keyboards and stuff, it’s nice to see new features & possibilities but the tablet is a tablet first, and then all that pc stuff people keep talking about
Tab S10's SoC this year seems like has issue about battery management, it is observably has less device up-time than last year Tab S9 and it has some issue with 5G variants.
You wont be able to store your games using it unlike older versions
at this point the only reason to go for an iPad for me is because Affinity still hasn't released an android version of their mobile software
In android you have a little bit more control over your data and files. Especially when you're still using other android devices and a windows pc.
And thanks for the Remarkable 2 review I thought about buying it just to write journal entries at night so I don't hurt my eyes and for that purpose it would be great but I decided for that price I might as well just get an Ipad air and a good pen
No confetti, LOL
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Yes but iPad is very slightly taller with "much" more pixels in that direction, more pixels overall, higher PPI, brighter screen, better screen, Dolby Vision (HDR) support
I prefer to use a Wacom One pen for the s10, the grip is great
Can you please tell me which is better: iPad Pro M4 or Samsung Galaxy S10+ for a design student to do illustration and to use 3d software.
Samsung all the way. It's just plain superior.
Fact
Also you can go into DEX mode and turn your tablet or phone into a console while your traveling or just at home. Connect your tablet wired or wireless to the tv then connect a Xbox or ps5 controller, play games on your tablet or stream games. Samsung 💪🏾
Hate how Samsung has skipped the 11" model this time around, I just wanted a tablet, not a space odyssey monolith.
hey Brad! can you tell me which is the best Samsung tab among S9FE- S7+ and S8 or any Xiaomi tab for an artist? please do reply would love your suggestion before buying one
I wish Samsung would make a Magic Keyboard. You can't use the S Tab as a laptop with the standard keyboard cases.
When you speak of CPU, do not forget about GPU as well.
Kinda, with mobile devices the CPU and GPU are combined with some cores handling traditional CPU tasks and others handling GPU tasks.
@@thebradcolbow Yes. But please, mention which GPU the device possesses?
You can easily check with the "CPU-Z" software/application. Freely downloadable as well.
GPU also plays a role in performance comparison.
The prices though... It's like half the price of a workstation laptop $4-5k... (Aud)
as an M2 iPad owner, this was still rather biased. As peak as apple pencils, its should be important to mention the price of the stylus compared to the spen.
Wow Brad! How does it feel to own so many great digital art devices?
pleaaaase do a video on duet display using an android tablet as a wacom display for a mac !!
You can feel you biased this review is toward apple.
“The iPad Pro is so good outside esp with the textures screen”.
Reality: at high brightness you are going to have 2h of battery life max. Yeah great. Money wasted.
The screens are also already so bright it hurts your eyes so why would anyone turn it even brighter?
@@bluemusic039 what part of “drawing outside” did you not understand? Under sunlight / outside the screen at max brightness is just okay
@@AChannelINeed I'm not sure why you're unnecessary rude to me...? I use my iPad too outside. And i use normal screens outside too. I do also agree that it will strain the energy way too fast.
*drain
@@bluemusic039 you are right I am sorry. I am too used to deal with ppl arguing in bad faith
ipad with software created for workstation and s10 with software created for phones.. and both of them fail because some american rich boy said "tablets are not for work but only for fun" hahahaha..
can you test which screen shows adult videos better?
I had to take that out because of UA-cam's terms of service :D
@@thebradcolbow Ugh, I can't remember which UA-camr said this comment. He joking about how the difference between the normal version and the pro version is "You buy the normal version if you consume adult content, and you buy the pro version (with the good cameras and mic) if you make adult content. That's how you know which phone to get."
U didn’t say about processor where apple uses M chips which are used in laptops
I just really love the light and thin S Pen. I know I am a bit alone on this, most people like heavier, thicker pens, but to S Pen is pretty much optimal for me, the Apple Pencil is too fat and too heavy for me. Also think of this: There are thickness/weight adding cases that you can embed a ligher pen in, if you like it heavier and fatter. You can put the Apple Pencil on a diet on the other hand :)
A referb s9 ultra is $750 with an included s-pen.
I’m not certain I can justify buying an iPad anymore…
For future-proofing I would take iPad Pro M4.
I hate it.
Ipad m4 will see also an update to turn off one of the processors... it's mocking simply this
You always mention the apple pen is an added extra expensive cost but didnt mention it this time.
Tab S10 is Trump 👑 iPad is Kamala Harris ❤
