- Hello everyone and welcome to today's episode of Beyond The Mask. In today's installment, we're going to be analyzing Billy Loomis, Stu Macher and Ghostface. Or more specifically... Why Billy and Stu picked out the Ghostface costume as their outfit to carry out their sadistic killing spree. In order to understand that, we have to take a look at the costume itself and Billy's overall masterplan. Join me today as I provide you with a theory on WHY exactly the costume was worn and the significance it held for Billy personally.

One of my favorite bits of deception in the film is how you aren’t really clued in on how much of a movie geek Billy is. He totally keeps his mouth shut, and allows Randy to be seen as the “movie freaked mind” guy. Up until the moment he reveals himself. He more or less projects his actual motive on to Randy without realizing it.
Eh, I got the creeps from Billy when he told Sidney at the beginning of the movie, that he was watching THE EXORCIST and thought of her
JIll as well! We see Kirby as the movie geek, but Jill is the one with movie posters on her bedroom walls and she's the one who calls Kirby and explains to her that Psycho was not the first slasher movie with the viewpoint of the killer. In the vain of making a remake of the original Woodsboro killing spree, she followed Billy's movie geek persona pretty well.

Billy was the grim reaper and he succeeded making the greatest horror movie ever. Nothing better than the original. "We all go a little mad sometimes."
I find billy way more scarier than most of the other killers in scream. This was his concept…They all just copied
You just blew my mind, hard. Now I see Billy and Stu choosing Sidney's dad as the scapegoat because they probably realized they had already created a tragic and/or disturbing backstory for him as a slasher villain indirectly, with the costume being the cherry on top. No wonder Billy took the time to stand up to Sidney when she tried to blame the movies as opposed to someone like Mickey, who was absolutely willing to throw them under the bus... Excellent video.
Funny thing is, Roman started Billy down that path but ended up following Billy by wearing the mask in the end. Genius!

Every killer failed to kill Sidney, so Roman gave it a go himself. He was so mastermind as a killer, he didn’t even need a partner to sellout in case he was caught

@@frankdees507To be fair, Sidney would have died if it weren’t for Gale saving her life. Stu and Billy would’ve made it to the sequel, so technically Billy was the closest to killing Sidney more than any other Ghostface.

This could be a theory…I believe billy wears the costume because it represents the darkness glooming inside of him. When he wears the mask, it felt like a different personality that has been unleash since he murdered Sidney’s mother.

This channel always goes into so much detail with the Scream franchise. They should have him involved with future instalments, his key eye for detail could really help the franchise.

Billy is clearly number one to me. Dated the daughter of his fathers mistress whom he murdered. And manipulated syd who is still grieving the lost of her mother into having sex with him. While still butchering everybody that’s close to them including syd friend Tatum etc. while still putting on this front as innocent and dragging stu for the ride🙃 bill is the most twisted ghost face to me who acted off pure revenge. Next after Billy would be Jill to me

Billy created the mold. Every killer after we’re crafted from that mold. It was his idea. He made it reality. For me he will always be #1.

This is a really interesting examination of Billy and Stu's motives. It also reinforces the idea that the in-universe Stab movies validated what Billy wanted all along--to make his killing spree cinematic in nature. In that sense, Scream 5 brought the Stab movies full circle, from real-life creating a movie series, to fans of the movie series engaging in real-life violence to "improve" the movie series.

Interesting analysis. I think Billy Loomis had some hidden anger towards Hank, his own father, for sleeping with Maureen Prescott and driving his mother away. Both Billy and Mrs Loomis, who appeared in the sequel as the mastermind of the Windsor College murders in a revenge plot against Sidney Prescott for killing Billy, displayed psychopathic tendencies and must have always had a closer bond than the one he had with his father. Loomis" mother leaving him drove him to become a killer and he found out through Roman Bridger what his father had done. Bridger was dealing with being rejected by Maureen Prescott as "Rina's child" and had begun a vengeful, stalker like plot against his biological mother. Bridger discovered that Loomis was capable of murder and drew his hidden anger out by influencing him into killing Maureen Prescott.
From there Loomis was in control of his own destiny and the anger he had towards his own father for sleeping with Maureen Prescott obviously drove him to try and frame Neil Prescott for the murder spree during the timeline of the first film. The costume they chose being called "Father Death" in the Screamverse is heavily meta and intended to influence the police into looking at Neil Prescott as the prime suspect. Loomis may have felt since discovering that his father's infidelity that he was "dead to him" as his mother abandoning him clearly took a toll on him psychologically, further influencing the decision to use that particular costume.
Something about these killer theory videos with that music is just haunting and fits. I get chills because these characters are literally not among the living anymore. At least in fiction.
Actually the reason they picked father of the death costume was because it was a Easter egg that billy was trying to frame the murders he and Stu did on Sidney’s father. That was done on purpose Kevin Williams talked about that. Cause at the end they were gonna say the dad did it. So that’s why Kevin had the costume called father of death it was a nod to what Billy’s plan was infront of us to go oh it’s a lil Easter egg
It's so mixed but this shows why this topic is interesting. It's hard to understand how Billy ticked, he was so complex.
Psychologically it’s the putting on of the mask that is the true face for the killer(s). Even for heroes and antiheroes like Batman and Catwoman. With Billy being such a horror film fan it’s safe to say the mask also served as homage to Halloween and a signature he knew would work due to Halloween’s cult status.
I find it interesting that they call their victims before attacking, surely it would be better to attack them whilst they are unaware?
In the tv series the killers calls were used to mislead the characters, putting them into a tense situation where they had to think on their feet to escape, placing them into a trap.
In the movies ghostfaces calls are more like a villain revealing their plans with a grand speech, leading to the killer becoming unsuccessful in their attack.
Another thing, I wonder if billy and stu had multiple costumes and masks in canon to get rid of evidence and hid their tracks?
I’ve always been baffled by that too. Why do they call before they kill?

The calls were used to distract and terrify the victims in the opening they used it to distract Casey while they were bringing Steve to the back and then used to make her answer questions while one of them snuck in side for Sidney they used it lure her to the front door while so Stu could sneak inside and when Billy was in jail a call was used to make the police think they had the wrong guy

This is why I think Roman never actually met Billy or Stu but instead takes the credit by making out he does as, in his twisted mind, it makes him feel like he's somewhat superior to both of them.

Well he does confess to Sidney that Billy never liked seeing his father in his videos at all. He personally showed Billy the video to spark his murderous rage

The first Jason killer was Mrs Vorhees. Jason was not the killer until the sequel, as detailed in the opening scene of the movie.
There is also the fact the costume was widely available thus giving them an easy way of getting the costume and not drawing attention to themselves (it was hard to track) and the whole trope of the killer could be anyone

Listening to this, just makes me wonder, what if Billy and Stu got away with their plan? They don’t seem like the people to just stop, other wise they wouldn’t have gone on to make their sequel. Were they going to take the part of Sidney and just have the killer stroking them, but really they be the killing framing someone else or would they have gone down the road of the original idea for scream 3 and have ghost face become a cult?

How is it possible that Billy overlooked (and even Randy never mentioned) the biggest of the slasher movie tropes: the final girl trope?
Billy didn’t overlook it. That’s specifically why he pushed Sidney to have sex. Once she was no longer a virgin, the rule didn’t apply to her anymore. And more than anything, it was to punish her mother.

Ghost face for sure. They were in every store when I was a kid in the early 2000’s. The regular ones and the ones with the pump for blood to squirt around inside it .

@KH because she didn't have sex with him? Did you not watch the film. He was making her feel in love for 2 years just to taunt her until he eventually would try to kill her. He never liked her I believe he only dated her because of what happened to his family

Billy left leaving cottons jacket a Ghostface outfit wouldn't make sense.
I have a theory that Roman and Billy were half brothers through Hank. I know it's supposed to be Milton but what if Hank and Maureen got together before that night with Milton and Roman was the result.
That would do at least two things to Roman:
1 He goes to find Maureen and not only does she reject him but he finds her with his father
2 It would give him even more of an incentive to mess with both Billy and Sidney seeing them as the accepted children while he was abandoned

Didn't go where to say that Sydney I thought she saw cotton where you worried that black leather jacket. And Gail says " you saw someone leave wearing that coat, the same someone who planted the coat in Cotton's car framing him"

I feel it would have worked.
There a simple explanation into why they wore the Father death or choose the costume. To conceal their identity as anyone could be behind the mask while it's not Halloween while there no date in the film. And seem early school year. Billy and Stu as one wore Cotton Weary jacket walked after killing Maureen Prescott. That how they got the idea it is not a dumb question.
I always figured he chose Death because that’s who he became, the Reaper. 🤔

In between plotting to kill Sydney’s mom, Sydney and etc. That was his top priority.
The Ghostface mask is scary. However, I think that the surgical mask worn by the killers in the Scream tv series is much creepier and scarier. It really enters the uncanny valley.
Another reason he probably picked that costume is because is was so regular meaning it could b bought In every five and dime in the state so it would b very hard to link him to the murders 🔪🔪🔪🩸🩸🩸.
