- The T-80UM2 in War Thunder is the free event tank for Operation Winter. Top Tier Tanks in War Thunder can be frustrating but when it comes to a T-80 it's easily one of the best tanks at its respective battle rating.

EDIT: this does not only apply to walls but almost any destructible object (bush, trees, haystacks, etc.) which causes APFSDS to act like HE or HEAT, it doesnt even hit the target even if the target is directly next to it, the dart just vanish

Hey Odd. A quick explanation on why your KA wasn’t firing its atgm. You need to line up your crosshair INSIDE the “laser basket” (the bigger green boxleft of your crosshairs shown) 21:20 then you can unrail a missile. Hope this helps

God, I was playing this thing stock yesterday. The Russians really don't have to even try at top tier anymore. Just a sea of T-80 variants. Knock one down, chances are the person has more to respawn in. Between the T-72, T-80s, T-90, Kamovs, Su-27s, and the big Chunguska, it's like playing a PVE mode. And if you put the Mi-28NM on the lineup too? With half Vikhrs and half Khrizantema missiles? Everything dies.
Meanwhile: The real Russian Army is not even the second strongest army in Ukraine. Only if they had no-spall RHA, carousel not exploding on a direct hit and volumetric...
It's almost as if warthunder is basically Russian propaganda.
The game was so much better before they introduced more modern systems. For fucks sake the games engine and maps are balanced for WW2 tanks, there's no way it can handle modern tank combat in a remotely enjoyable way.
If they can't win in RL , then propaganda and win in game with mythical make believe vehicles. For what it's worth , I mostly play Russia, but this tank is full blown fake news .
Y'all just love to complain about something. There are definitely some countries that lack vehicles at top tier (italy primarily) but most can put together a decent lineup. What, do you need 10 vehicles a game? I have the full russia top tier and the number of times I've taken out 4 or more vehicles in a match is super low, the games are decided much quicker.
@@aidanriess4946 And there's good reason they're decided much quicker. The Russian vehicles are on average better suited for War Thunder's gameplay, especially with Gaijin's terrible map design for high tiers. And there's more of them to choose from. Several of them now have been free event vehicles like the Moderna and this new monster. So top tier Russia is also more accessible. There's a reason tons of people know it as the training wheels nation.
I gotta say that the most amusing thing was getting saved from a Bradley and Apache at the same cap point, and then laughing off the Apache until a friendly Tunguska blasted it out of the air. Really satisfying to play this tank, and use it strictly as a backup for day maps and help grind the rest of the tech tree with the squadron vehicles, and such.
If you want to grief on helicopters, try the anti-helicopter helicopter i.e. the Z-10. With 16 TY-90s, the thing is a flying Sam site

Yeah, formidable *when* they were accepted into service until the late 80's. Not anymore they're not. Their dropping so fast, Russia is dipping into the T-62's to try and make up for the losses.

Look what happened to Leos 2A4s in Syria and Iraqi and Saudi Abrams in Iraq and Yemen and Israeli Merkava in Lebannon (2006) when they were met with actual modern and semi modern ATGMs. The only reason for better survival record of Western tanks is that they never really faced a true peer opponent in an actual war. @@still_guns the T62M's were shipped to the DPR & LPR militias, its not for frontline use but just as infantry fire support and i failed yet to find an ukrainian grunt complaining that his position was blown up by a 115mm HE instead of a 125mm HE, its not like there are big tank battles, the ukrainian T64s were largely destroyed within weeks of the invasion and most of the stuff they captured are inoperable or they would use it more.
I love how people defended the 2S38 not being overpowered for 9.7 and that the puma is better... Puma didn't even take your track while the 2S38 almost killed your commander, took your breach, and damaged your driver as well all frontally in a tank that shrugs off 120mm APFSDS rounds.
More over, the PUMA is a tech tree vehicle and it's stock ammo is effectively worthless, even sideshots can be difficult. You need to grind out actual usable ammo to fight any ground based vehicles. And the ERA? It's chemical energy weapons only. Yeah you'll have trouble against things with HEAT, but sabot will go clean through.

they should make it so the nuke plane spawn point dont take from what you collected, if you fail you should be able to spawn thing to fight back, not just go back to garage because half the enemie team J'd out to spawn anti air or plane just for one kill

Very happy I decided to grind for this tank rather than the Tornado since that one got nerfed. Very happy with it so far . Great Vid as always.
Im gonna sell the t80 but keep the Tornado, i have 4 ground trees at 11.0 but except for the mig23ml my air units for those nations are only around rank 4.
So now i can skip the Russian air tree, german air tree, and British air tree (im halfway the rank 7 squadron Harrier).
That leaves me with the American one but so far im using the current battlepass A-1H and that is basically an A10 Warthog without smart ammo.
(Im going to buy the 2S38 with the gold i get from selling the T80)
Can't wait for the next update where Russia gets another 35 top tier MBTs which are all 99% identical.
Next update will just remove all ammunition from all non Russian tanks, so the Russian players can just turkey shoot as copium.
Don't forget the 4k silver lion repair cost

@Joe nuts I'm fairly sure he doesn't think he's too good to use arty. He's a very good player without a doubt and I'm genuinely curious as to why he doesn't use arty on tanks that he can't shoot. I do and sometimes I get lucky or it might flush them out. I'm nowhere near as good as oddbawz by the way. LOL.
Apart from the lack of thermals this tank is great. I'm actually glad to have grinded this one.
I wanted to grind this vehicle so bad! At the beginning of the event, i was bearly reaching rank III. And when i actually got a good lineup, i just flop and couldn't keep up playing war thunder everyday. Sucks for me!
Enjoy the low tier process, when youre in toptier, you will know what youre doing every game.
Bring a low tier vehicle that you're good at to higher BR matches

You can get

3.0 BR higher vehicle killed = Skill Matters - 5,000 SL

"Sometimes doesn't get set off" No, what happens is that the vertical charges that are well known to be *the* most dangerous part of this model of carousel hence the T-64, T-72 and T-90 having them horizontal instead, just does NOT detonate. You have to hit the *inert* shells that are at the bottom to detonate the carousel, the charges don't blow up

The T-64 has the same style carousel as the T-80, the T-72 and the T-90 have the other safer carousel.

I'm about to get this vehichle, I wish it had thermals but it's still good without it.

This performs as good as you'd expect from a T80 but as someone who relies a lot on thermals especially for long distance sniping the lack of it is a deal breaker and the APS is really not special, if a missiles travels above 700 m/s you're done, it won't stop optically guided missiles either if I'm not mistaken.
I literally don't understand how Odd can claim that this thing is "overpowered" when it
a) literally doesn't even have thermals at a BR where virtually everything you face has Gen 2/3 thermals making you a deadweight on many maps
b) still retains the same shit gun handling and reverse speed that's a common problem for all Russian MBTs (other than the T-80BVM and T-72B3 in the case of gun handling)

No, whenever someone Js out, they are given as a kill to the nearest enemy. The drone player probably used up its 2 missiles and decided to dip because there was nothing more he could do, that is why Odd got a free kill.

I was off the week for xmas and I have 6 air and ground stars. I have some time after work I could probably grind out the 2 left I need for each vehicle but the grind has me burnt out so I think my spare GE from the xmas sale will be invested for them instead..I just can't play war thunder right now I'm just not having fun and need a break

In general I think most Russian tanks are very survivable take the T-34 and the SU-152 for example the can take a few shots before dying and have great cannons, if you take my German tank performance and my Russian tank performance you'll notice a big difference
The thing is the Russian ammo rn. It just won't detonate. I get 7 kills average each game and when I face Russians the ammo will blackhole 2-3 times. Like that's not okay. If ur gonna look realistically on the matter, a hit in the ammo on a Russian tank ALWAYS ends in either a fire or detonation

im currently playing the first t34s in the soviet tree because 8.0 us isnt as fun and honestly....i dont get how i survive so much dumb stuff with it. im pretty sure alot of russian ammo racks are also bugged, i had a match where i got shot 3 times in my ammo and it didnt explode once.

I barely use thermals anyway unless they are 2nd or 3rd gen.
After death in T80BVM you can respawn, T80UM2 is great in the mid-game, because then players respawn in: helicopters, drones, planes. Unbelievable that they didn't add it to the tech tree because it balances the game perfectly! When they add radar missiles to Apache, only T80UM2 will be playable, for others the gameplay will require you to hide from Apache, by going cover to cover.
They already confirmed radar missiles op and they wont add it, i asked them.
I got 5 tanks grinding this event (4 accidentally) i grinded GRB hard that i didn't realized that i got gepard 1a2, wiesel tow, 75mm half track, and IT 1 (also this t80um2)
I accidentally grinded half of israelian air tree by playing Vautour IIa the whole time, which I got a booster for on the 4rd or 5th day
I'm sorry but I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, I keep getting shit on in this tank, like what should I do? Is there a way to get the tank with everything researched on it or do I have to suffer through the grind of getting every little modification? Someone please answer I'm so confused.
