action in abundance! it's nice to see how the players figured to exploit the beetle's weakness. those are some interesting critters! also it is good they avoided the stirges!
P.D. remember to tell the Dungeon Minister he has to apply for his emmy nomination, otherwise he won't get it.

That sounded like a fun little adventure. Somewhere in an overly cluttered bookshelf I have the Book of Lairs and the "Sites" series that were similar to this, though some of them were not presented quite so well. I am going to have to check this line out.

It's a neat line of modules. I grabbed a few of their low level offerings, I haven't checked out their higher level stuff yet, but will get there eventually.

Skulls, black candles, a pentagram, and a chaotic portal?
    Holy Satanic Panic, Batman!

Yeah, good thing we had the Dungeon Minister join in the quest! 😁

I ran this after seeing your review. I substituted fire beetles from a previous adventure. It all tied together. It took two runs to get through.

Sean, Oh my gosh!! great episode. loved the ministers musings. The paper with "U Stupid" seriously lol, priceless, I'm using that. Also I agree seperate map page(s) needed.

The best part was that paper with the 'U Stoopid' on it is actually a spell scroll, but they just tossed it back into the chest and left without examining it further!

Creation's Edge has a bunch of good mini-adventures for all levels. I have used The Alchemist's Task and it ran well, while also providing an NPC that could provide healing potions for a group that didn't have healers in it. Both of the goblin-centric adventures (A1 and D1) are great starter adventures or add-ons to a campaign. There are also some other neat low-level modules like The Ruined Hamlet and The Gloaming (BL 1-2), The Night of the Stirges (E2), which is a bit silly but still good, the Wrath of Grapes (E4) and The Restless Knight (G2).
Love how this worked into the campaign and great to see the Special Guest Appearance. He didn't die quite as quickly as guests did on Police Squad, but he did it with honor. Looking forward to what comes next.

Definitely some good offerings in the line. I've run a few others for different groups - the Almost Thief, the Blue Crystal Mine... Night of the Stirges is waiting in the wings... Even this one has been adapted for my 5e game and run with them.

Great recap. an Epic guest star!
I have ran a good number of adventures from that series, Sorrowblight is a good lead into a "bigger threat" if you want it too.

It's great having Aaron pop into the games. We're trying to make it more regular.

    Another great episode.
I'm curious how you handled the piercer knowledge. Did you have the player roll for the knowledge or was that a judgement call based on the character's background or your base level assumptions for general knowledge in your fantasy world.

    • @Merlinstergandaldore
      @Merlinstergandaldore  Рік тому +4

I have a 'you know what you think you know' philosophy regarding lore and monsters etc. In an age where players are likely familiar with things, it becomes tedious to police knowledge, so if they know something, then so be it. BUT - I'm not obligated to correct them if they're wrong, nor am I obligated to inform them of changes I've made to create exceptions in a given encounter. Monster entries are the typical specimen, but there will inevitably be variation.

@@Merlinstergandaldore I've said it before but this is one thing I loved about AD&D monster entries - Frequency.
Frequency really helped me, as a DM, decide what monsters, in general, would be more or less known to the PCs. There were, of course, some exceptions, such as in the case of dragons or giants and other creatures that might warrante substantial legendarium despite their rarity but the Frequency entry on monsters became useful for more than just determining how often a party might encounter them.
