I love that the actual band members thought about that when making her character :-)!! I’m glad her being Japanese wasn’t sidelined for solely speaking English and having an English accent and they thought about the implications of her solely speaking Japanese until she met the rest of Gorillaz and started learning English + being around people with English accents. She’s such a beloved character I’m glad she has that depth

I love that she went from a heavy Japanese accent to a lesser one that was still prominent. It just really shows that she was raised around British people and took on some of their accents. I love cool little details like that!

I like how they put a lot of thought into what the characters would sound like which makes it more natural. I wonder who voices Noodle? It sounds like a Japanese person who has lived in England for a long time, which makes sense for Noodle who arrived when she was 10 and has grown up there around local accents she picked up. I love how 2-D gets annoyed at her not translating everything lol, been there with friends who want me to translate but when you're not a professional business translator it's hard to do it fully so you provide a summary of what was said both ways. A professional would take notes while listening but she has to do it back and forth in her head and does a quick version of what was said. Had friends complain I'm not telling them everything but I gave them the important bits lol.
Kids can often pick up accents fast and more so if they still live in that country so Noodle feels accurate. It's like how Newt from the Aliens movie had an English twang to her voice at the time because her dad was in the air force stationed in the UK at the time, she went to school in the UK and was around those accents so it changed. The actress moved back to America with her family later and now has a completely American accent. Noodle would keep that twang she picked up since she didn't move back to Japan later.

I'm in love with the subtle details in this that really make this interaction feel alive and real. The animation is far from ambitious but the little fidgets and shifts and leg bounces paired with how natural the conversation feels really goes a long way.

Noodle really speaks English in the way many Japanse people who is learning English speak.
It's typical ''Japanese-English''.
And why does noodle speak Kansai-accent？ It makes her more lovely.

Because she speaks Kansai dialect, not standard Japanse accent, we see her as somewhat "innocent" .
Many Japanse people go to Tokyo or Kanto region when they get an adult, because they have to go to university,or have to get job in Tokyo. And since then they stop speaking their original dialect, start speaking standard Japanese. This means they are "colored" by Tokyo,and have lost a kind of innocence.
Also, people in Kansai region is known as having cheerful and friendly character.
This is why noodle seems lovely to us.

It’s awesome to hear Noodle’s voice again after so long! I heard the reason we have not heard her voice in so long is because the actress who voices her had a baby. Last time we heard her was the jaguar advert but I swear that must have been a different voice actress as the voice I am hearing here is the voice of the original Noodle Haruka Kuroda who has been voicing Her since the beginning when the character was still a child , so it’s nice to hear her reprise her role as the character
