Any reason that you did not use a flexplate stiffener such as performance automatic PA26470? Also, if you still have the info, please give us the p/n for the bolts.

Flexplate bolts from Ford are M-4216-A300
My AOD came from Lentech automatics. Flexplate was bought from them as well and crank was balanced with it. They never suggested running a stiffener.

@@MrStangdawg Cool, thanks for the feedback. Use of the stiffener for AOD is hit and miss by Ford. I recently pulled an AOD out of a junkyard F-250 and it had the stiffener. However, years ago my buddy pulled an AOD out of a T-bird and there was no factory stiffener. Every Ford I have had with a C-4 or C-6 has a stiffener. I am using one on my AOD so the combined thickness with the flexplate & stiffener is 0.165 which makes the thread grip length of the M-4216-A300 bolts 0.572" into the crankshaft. Is that enough? Probably, the thread depth on the 393 Scat crank is 0.85" so I would prefer a slightly longer bolt. Thanks for the tips buddy.

Great video man,i was looking for torque specs and you have them here right and center, thank you,ill be doing this in the next couple of days, im using brand new oem flexplate bolts From ford and they have thread sealant on them so im guessing that will suffice but ill be using some ARP lube under the head of the bolt.
Im installing a mild 347 and i was lucky to actually find a OEM flexplate that came on 351 cop cars LTD's with a 28oz inbalance, those things are rarer than hens teeth,my builder gave me a scat flexplate but i dont like it, its too thick and kinda worried me about converter clearance plus i wont be laying down the hammer on this new engine so sfi would be overkill for me,just a pleasure cruiser that i might get on once in a blue moon.
Those are some pretty sweet heads you have there, how did your install go, everything ok?

Motor has been in a while now, did a lot of the wiring and odd and end stuff and now getting back into the engine bay. It's a grind as mostly confined to working on car on the weekend. I bought my flexplate from Lentech as I didn't want to guess that I had the right one (and it's SFI rated).
On a 347 crank, the holes go all the way through so probably best bet to add some sealant just for insurance against any oil seepage around the bolts.

@@MrStangdawg Hey i did have something else to ask you if i may, i have the same bolts that you have for my flexplate but the ones that i pulled out of my old motor are a tad lower profile, they are identical in shape and everything but the head on the old ones is smaller,my old ones are .23 and the new ones like yours are .32, both are oem Ford bolts, i wonder why that is? we were gonna stab the motor in today but ran into some issues so thats been cancelled for now.

I am a little confused as to which bolts to use on what application. For example, I have a 302 with an AOD. My crank bolt holes are open (go all the way through). Do I use the long bolts or the short bolts?

For the bolts themselves, you will want to use thread sealer as they are exposed to crankcase oil.
AOD flex plate bolts are shorter than flywheel bolts. If you are going from AOD to t5 you should buy "flywheel" bolts as they are longer. Many of the kits are 7/16-20 by 1 inch. AOD bolts are 3/4 inch.
It's cheap insurance to buy new hardware instead of reusing flex/flywheel bolts.

the plate is what aligns the starter to the flywheel.

@@limitlessautomedia9794 it's actually not that bad. I recommend getting a new TV cable from performance automatic as you can't get the new from Ford anymore unfortunately.
The key to the AOD is setting up the TV cable and if you run it hard, changing the fluid and filter more frequently.
