This so far my favorite “teaching” video on the channel. Explanations from Jenya are extremely helpful and very detailed and Jenya seems pretty confident in what she thinks is most important on a boulder. Just wow
Really great content Hannah, Jenya provides fantastic coaching tips - 45 degrees of force into volumes. Love these collabs, it’s so relatable to see you progressing as a ‘normal’ climber trying and learning with this kind of input, I think it’s good for the 80% of us who are paddling the same boat.
Thanks Jed, I really appreciate that! I’ve been learning so much from climbers I’ve been working with lately, and I hope the tips translate into practical applications for viewers to improve their own sessions too ☺️
Great video. Jenya hasn't really been on my radar before but I'll be rooting for her big time this year, especially after reading the letter she wrote to the IFSC.
I love Jenya's attitude to climbing and her slab knowledge and teaching is second to none. It was fantastic to see your progress and confidence grow with each attempt. We all need a Jenya with us at the climbing gym 🤩
Mate I really like what you do. This looks just like a personal training session, with a good teacher you really vibe with. It doesn't feel scripted at all and so much of it applies to my training. Also the faces you pull as you climb are everything. Very relatable
This was awesome. Learned a ton from this, especially how Jenya analyzes the angle of force of the foot on volumes. And jeez, flashing that green problem was so impressive, that jump move was even sketchy for Jenya haha. Keep it up!!
Thanks Nick! It was a really fun move that I was pretty psyched to stick. The 90 degree rule will be a game changer for me for slabs in future I think!
@@hannahmorrisbouldering Not gonna lie, when my skin and arms begin to cry for mercy, I just look around for a slab 😂like "there's still rubber on those shoes, let the balance game begin"
Great explanations. You want your foot as far as possible from the wall, so you can lean into the wall, and you want to apply pressure vertically onto the volume. However, what they didn’t tell you, is that both of these tips are contradictory as by moving the foot farther from the wall, the angle will become steeper or worse compared to the vertical degree. So it’s a trade off: You are slipping -> put your foot closer to the wall You are falling of the wall because you can’t lean into the wall -> put your foot farther from the wall.
Man I love these MasterClass videos. I love slab, but I'm not so great at slab, but I want to be great at slab. Slab. I also love how down to earth Hannah is. Her fears are relatable (even though she crushes wayyyyyyyy harder than I do). Also Jenya 😍
This may sound silly, but seeing that you’ve uploaded a video has brightened a bad day. You’re my favourite bouldering UA-camr and your videos are so accessible! I learn so much from them and now positively obsessed myself!
Jenya is awesome! BTW, for the last boulder... last sequence, J used the left foot up rather than right - push with right hand on the volume. Might make a difference.
Jenya is a talented climber. I’m enjoying watching these videos as I have recently (2 weeks ago) have been hit by a lorry. Which I have been bruised and concussed from. These videos help as when I’m better I will put all of this valuable knowledge when I am back climbing. Thank you Hannah (which is also my name) 😊
@@hannahmorrisbouldering Thank You. Your climbing videos inspire me that bouldering isn’t that scary. Which is what I struggle with. You are the sweetest 😊
The excitement on your face when landed the start to boulder 2 was amazing! Great work on the blocs Absolutely awesome video, I feel like I learned a lot watching this! Loved how encouraging Jenya was
Glad you enjoyed it! I feel like that 'aha' moment captures the best of climbing. Really glad you took some useful tips away from Jenya - she's a great teacher!
I've seen Jenya in my home gym in Kingston Ontario!! I've been watching your channel for a while now, so it feels weird seeing someone I've seen in person with you. Love the video, Maybe one day I'll make it out to London to see you and Nate!
That was a super useful episode! I never thought about foot angle and I'm always uncertain about my foot slipping. Now i think I'll be more confident next time! Also Jenya is very cute, great smile. Cheers!
Since i saw Jenya some years ago for the first time climbing in the ifsc worlcup, she is definitely one of my favorite female heroes. She and Staša Gejo. I can't really say why. I think they are both working really hard to stay where they're staying. Nice Video. Good Content here in general. Thanks
Wow, Hannah really improved in trusting her feet. Especially in the last boulder! I think it will serve her well, because she had such good hip mobility. I foresee some great slabs in her future!
I actually just got back from a really fun slab session so you might be right! I’m getting more into it the more I understand the movement. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Really interesting and helpful video. Some great tips and climbing. Shame I just got back from my climbing session. Tips for the weekend visit though. Thank you
Those looked like some tricky smears on that last problem! I feel like not trusting a foot becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy in those situations because it won't stick unless you put a good amount of weight into it
I’ve been betrayed too many times by “a weighted foot never slips” hehe! Learning to trust my feet more and more though! I think learning how to fall properly has helped me work on the fear of trusting my feet too. ☺️

I also enjoyed it. The tips are really great, and I never heard them before.
I love how you're bringing all these comp climbers on recently! They are always a joy to watch^^ and educational too
Glad you enjoy it! I'm hoping to be able to share more sessions like this this year :)
Jenya seems cool. Always find myself cheering for her in world cups. Great collab.

From Shauna, the crimp queen, to Jenya, whom I think is the best slab climber on the circuit currently, you are crushing it!

I love that she said the red was a good warm up it took me the best part of an hour to get that boxed off 😂 once again though great video thank you!!
Being able to do slab climbing is a matter of knowing every detail, Jenya just gave those to us!
Slabs are so underrated ! We need more slab boulders in climbing gyms !
6 months ago I wouldn’t have agreed, but I’m slowly learning to embrace and love the slab!

Me neither. I recently learned the 'drop your heels' tip too and that helped so much to help my fear of slipping. Glad you enjoyed the episode :)
new subscriber. new climber (3 months) and have been enjoying your channel. This video with Jenya is my new favorite. (sorry louis)
10:11 i swear every gym does this now. My local (boardroom deeside) has started doing it too
Yes! You and Jenya crushed the slab 😍
YESSS!! Hannah Morris upload. You guys are looking soooo strong and so bad ass :) I'm going to start using "slab wizard".
Also, the 90 degree thing was super interesting to hear about. I'm definitely going to start thinking about that every time I do slab.
Woot woot, Jenya was deffo a slab wizard of the highest order. Thanks for commenting!
Great session and excellent coaching from Jenya. Thanks for this!

Could you do one for dynamic climbing? I am good at static climbing but scared to slip or hurt myself with dynamics.
There’s a few on the channel with Louis which focus on dynamic movement and we have one coming soon with a guest looking at dynos in particular! ☺️
Gained a lot from this, great tips and video!
Glad it was helpful! Happy slab climbing :)
This video is so informative 😊

post videos of you trying the red and blue problems thats what i need help with
