    I played my MS dry for about a week....then I simply added reverb and delay..... instantly ended up with S.I.M.P......I love the MS.

    Just got my MS-101 last week - my first Behringer clone (Also have Neutron and DM12D) .. Incredible synth - I love how the sound will fit in any mix, not overwhelming - just cutting right through. It’s such a playable instrument -super easy to shape sounds on the fly... oh and that FM modulation of filter adds so much to the sound pallet - especially just using a subtle amount, or cranked all the way.

    I got my MS101 a few months back. The MIDI was an issue out of the box, but was quickly fixed with the update using Behringer's Synth Tool (which includes a rudimentary piano roll sequencer that can send patterns to the synth). Worked great after the update.

    sound quality is always first of course but form factor makes a difference too. The Roland boutique range of synths sound good but are not designed to be used by full grown humans with actual sized hands.

      That's what keeps my attitude toward the Roland Boutiques a bit on the cold side too. Not made for adult hands.

    Interesting you mentioned the Moog Matriarch. Watched some vidz earlier today. Not sure yet if it fits what I am after. I still love the sound and features of the Moog Sub 37. To your point about non musicians...man, I would love a youtuber reviewing gear based on using the gear in song creation and playing. I don't need a manual tech spec tour. Show me how easy it is to make music and play in the mix and interact with other kit!

      Check out my TRACK MEGA DRONE and you will hear the SH-101 on it. As the twisting side to side synth: open.spotify.com/album/2iW6UH634qIS0BAJuuGEDZ and as the BASS line too.

    7:31 “i am not slamming Rolland. I am just use it as a midi controller now.” 😂

      @PureAmbientDrone  5 років тому +3

      Okay that's funny but unintentional on my side of things. But it is true it has just become a midi controller at this point.

    im not shocked that the MS-1 sounds as good as or better than an original 101. people seem to forget that the original was just a cheapo model for beginners, and the main reason it got popular was because it was cheap enough for the early house music pioneers to afford. Really any analog synth should be fairly easy to replicate so long as you place the same components in the same spots on the PCB, but for a cheaply made basic synth like the 101 it oughta be especially easy to do.

    Totally stoked for the Behringer RD8. Very likely my next purchase.
    I'm jonseing for the Oddessey, Pro One and the Crave. In all likelihood the RD8 and the Pro One will be next...

    Nice video, not really a review but interesting gear talk! 6:44 - Please don't be so quick in calling the sequencer on the MS-1 better. It has a couple of extra features but is limited to 32 steps instead of 100. I am not a huge fan of the entire Roland Boutique range but when it comes to the SH-01A I suggest comparing it really closely to the Behringer MS especially if you're looking for that original 101 sequencer, more voices and patch and pattern memory. They are both great remakes with different additional tricks up their sleeves but all in all, especially for those running out of workspace, I'd say the SH-01A is the better choice. Four voice polyphony gets you quite close to "Juno territory" and - what nobody seems to talk about - the unison mode in the SH-01A also sounds incredible... If you're sceptical about the sound being digital - check out the comparisons on UA-cam.

    Only thing I'm GASing for is more memory for my samplers so I can capture/mangle these new synths once they hit the secondhand market in the next few years.

    I just got all pumped from your talk and I am totally GASing over the Prologue. Every thing else just looks a little lackluster to me. I played it in-store and fell in love with it. I have a Minilogue and no matter how desperate times get, I'm holding on to that one.

    I also would never firmware-update my newest toy right out of the box. Firmware updates sometimes fuck up... and there's nothing worse having to sent away your brand new synth for repairs. When Novation released firmware for the Peak the facebook-group was filled with people that killed their Peak with the update. I had just installed that update successfully before reading all those posts else I had probably never installed it.

    I agree with you on the monopoly. I have that thing. Its what I call a nerdy synth.
    You say your an analog guy, what do you use for effects? analog effects?. Or your not into effects at all?

    • @PureAmbientDrone

      I use MOSTLY in the BOX effects. But I do have a two pedals that I hardly EVER use.

    • @PureAmbientDrone
      @PureAmbientDrone  5 років тому +2

      Its just a firmware update is needed. I got one of the older units that was labeled a mess 101. From what I understand the new units labeled ms1 don't have that problem out of the box. Entering into

    Judging by the many, very desirable, synths beind you, I was expecting you to jump right on the Behringer hate train and toot the horn as well.
    Very nice to instead hear a thorough, subjective review, based on the SOUND! To often it seems that the sound is lost in synth conversations.
    Great job! earned my sub
