Sounds very good to me putting the sh 101 comparison aside for a minuite. Its like getting a MC 202 and SH 101 in one box . Winner , winner !!!. Thanks for the vid Ken.
You didn't play DP, nor Gary Numan, but inadvertently did even better, you used the great Giorgio Morodor sequence which is practically the genesis of EDM. Long live "I Feel Love"!
Hey! Does anyone know if there's a way to quantize the triggering of another saved sequence whilst playing a previous one? That is, whilst you're playing one sequence, are you able to then choose another one that will play after the final step of the previous pattern has finished, instead of immediately when you trigger the pattern? The above description is how the TD-3 works and I wonder if there is a mode to do the same thing on the MS-101. This is with the intention of choosing between different patterns during live performance. Thanks!
you wouldn't believe the amount of times I see someone complain about a volume spike... or ask for compression on a video... I'm like "with compression you aren't hearing the real dynamics at all..."
I'm loving the new update Behringer clones demo's. I have the Neutron and super psyched about how it sounds and functions. Next week I'll have saved the cash for the Model D. I'm thinking this is on thie gas list now.
An analog replica of SH101 ,brand new for 299€,thank you Behringer, you're killing it.Pro 1 will be a spot on,maybe UB Xa module later on.Thank God I didn't buy the SH01a ,and waited for this.
This was an early prototype and the last product I assisted them with. I believe the sequencer was revamped before launch so I can not answer that with any degree of confidence.
Wonderful Mr Flux - thanks for doing this! Would like to hear tri a bit more but thats cool! Cant fathom that this will cost less than modding my OG 101 would! Wow! Sounds lovely and rubbery to me - even over YT. How are rests and ties on the seq? Thanks!
yeah I didn't show too much triangle cause I know people just gripe too much about "but thats not the sh sound" ... the sequencer is a tad fiddly on mine but I believe that will be updated so I didn't focus on it.
@@Fluxwithit - Great! Thanks again! Looking forward to playing with one of these and might even do a side by side if there arent a million uploaded by the time!
Hi Ken, thanks for your hands on demo, it sure sounds like an SH-101 to me :-) I notice that there's no auto mode mark for the glide settings. Is it a hidden function, or just missing in the Behringer design?
This is one of the reasons I did not go deep on the sequencer. I suspect changes are coming. So I can't answer that with a high degree of accuracy regarding the final product.
As many have asked before, will they be able to patch pattern transpose with a firmware update or has the unit been fully sent into production locked in without this ability?
The Roland IR3109 was used in the Jupiter 8, SH-101, Juno 6/60, MC-202, JX3P. This filter might be in other Roland synths but I only know these. So if "cool audio" is remaking these chips, it wouldn't make sense to only use them for the MS-101. Maybe they're considering a Jupiter 8 clone (or at least they should be).
redirishmanxlt coolaudio didn’t clone the IR3109. The 3109 itself is an implementation of an earlier Roland quad-BA662-based filter topology put onto a single IC. The MS-101 filter uses this topology as well, swapping in 13700s for the BA662s.
Sounds really good. I'm going to wait for the ub xa though. Really need a poly synth as the model D covers all the mono territory pretty well. Captions at 8:50 Coco Coco co co co co co gagagagaga!
Roland SH-01A has 4 voice polyphony and proper MIDI CC implementation. According to the Quick Start pdf on the Behringer's site it looks like this thing has no support for CC parameters, so you can't tweak the sound parameters in your DAW.
Wouldnt call them cheap imitations thou. Perhaps Miniature imitations.. I love my SH-01a cause its so small and has the SH-01 sound and simplicity I love. Will get the MS-101 as well cause well, just look and hear it, damn, keytar aswell ;D
Hopefully there will be other color options. I don’t want a bright red plastic synth in my studio. Nice work Behringer nonetheless. Perfect amount of upgrades while keeping it true to the original.
A genuine sh101 is going to be 30+ years old at this point, so there will obviously be differences just from the age gap between the two. I can only imagine the behringer 101s will only sound better as they get older
Yes you can glide the whole sequence. And you can also choose to glide all the notes or just specific notes. You have to make sure the glide switch is on when you do it, that was my first mistake and I thought it wasn't working.
Took delivery on one of these on 20th April... Hmmmmm... Jury's still out guys... Build quality and decals are poor... Key bed is uneven and some of the keys have scores from the moldings...
EDP Wasp please Behringer. You know how to do it. I'm pretty sure the synth community would love this one back too! You could call it the Behringer "Sting", credit me and throw me a free one for the idea as you would make Millions! Oh hell, call it what you want, just make it already🤔🙂. I'm asking as you've done such a great job with this must have MS101.
Well... close enough for me.... But the thing is : a real 101 is 30+ years old and can be repaired by recapping and other simple stuff... but the ms101 is highly integrated and won't last for more than a few years, If at all... I don't buy my synths to trash them after a few years. Synths are not cell phones.
This is what is referred to "talking out your ass"... The ms101 is no less repairable than an sh101. Have you been inside the unit? I have. Your statement has ZERO truth to it.
I'm still trying to figure out why people think smd components are some how non repairable or different than through hole. Are people scared of tweezers?
An 80's board can never be recreated because most of the chemicals originally used on the PCB components is forbidden today. Chemicals play a big role in analog synthesis development & design.
Sounds very good to me putting the sh 101 comparison aside for a minuite. Its like getting a MC 202 and SH 101 in one box . Winner , winner !!!.

Sounds great. A very nice looking synth as well.
I have no idea what an SH-101 sounds like and I don't care....the MS-101 is DOPE! Thanks Flux! I can run my Tempest through this thing...

Please help. Can the ms101 take guitar pedals?
If so how do I connect them?
Yes, I’ve done it. I probably just plugged into the output jack…
Buying RD 808 and MS 101 when they are released and for that matter the RD 909 as well.
On minute 8:25 I noticed that you played 2 notes on the same blinking step. Is that normal?

Is there a way to set the tempo with any degree of accuracy?

First good sound review thanks... And I like the sounds.. Are the envelopes fast enough? They seem to be
Awesome demo! Will you be doing one like it on the RD-808?
Yup, I posted a short demo. I'm waiting for the latest firmware before doing another update
@@Fluxwithit Cool! Can't wait for a more in-depth demo from you! :)
Are you externally sequencing it or using the internal sequencer Ken?
is it possible to program note sequences with "empty" steps, to make something rhythmic?
Yes, add rests
The sound is somewhere between a SH-101 and Pro-One imho
So can you transpose the sequence by pressing another key?
This is one of the reasons I did not go deep on the sequencer. I suspect changes are coming. So I can't answer that with a high degree of accuracy regarding the final product.
@@Fluxwithit thx!
Sounds pretty good; I noticed the tuning knob is not positioned in the center. Is the tuning unstable?
no, thats just where I wanted it tuned.... center is not always perfect tune on any analog device.
Gotcha & very true. Thanks for the reply, have one on preorder.
As many have asked before, will they be able to patch pattern transpose with a firmware update or has the unit been fully sent into production locked in without this ability?
as stated in the video. not going deep on the sequencer as the firmware for that may change a bit
Any word on sequencer transpose?
🙂Does it come in blue?
Yup

Sounds good but the envelopes are very slow and not bouncy. The core sound is fine but the envelopes are totally wrong.
Interested in your changes , did they get rolled into the production model? - as I watch you explain... The pitch/mod area
Yeah, it was more me finding some quirks that needed slight corrections before production. And yeah it's done

Much better demo, definitely did the unit justice. Now, WHEN can we buy this? Some suggest March time? @ $299. :O
yeah march is what I have been hearing. Not 100% sure though
Let’s hope. It’s definitely a pre-order. Despite everyone’s whinging, I think it looks and sound great. And I’d prioritise it over the Boutique. :)
this vs a monologue?
This is more iconic than the Monologue. The Monologue is great though in it's own way - and has motion sequencing, unlike the MS101.
i own a monologue its not really that great to be honest
Modulate noise with noise, play with filter to emulate a Saturn rocket launch.
