I bought this unit and it is ridiculously easy to set up. I will say that it does have bugs as not everything works... ex. the switch to turn off the LED's doesn't work. I need them to figure out a way to allow Tailscale to be installed for remote work though. I bought two 10 GBPS transceivers to convert to RJ45 and they worked out of the box. I configured my VLANS for my 4 WIFI networks and set the DNS server to use my Pihole for ad blocking etc. and done! I use a Mikrotik 10 GBPS RJ-45 switch and I use Unifi WIFI 6 access points with a gen 1 cloud key. Everything works and I couldn't be happier! This is a home set up BTW.
So, I have Spectrum 1 gig home internet, and I had to throttle my speed to 1 gig to keep it from timing out my modem!!! I was getting 1.14 GBPS plus down, and it was timing out because that's more than I pay for.
@@JasonsLabVideos I know right? But this is true. The modem was giving me more bandwidth than I was paying for and it was timing out and causing me to reset it several times a day. By capping my upload and download speeds in the router at 1 GBPS, this stopped the timeouts.
I called Spectrum several times and they sent two different technicians out because they couldn’t figure it out. They even replaced the modem with a new one and still the same issue.
Thank you for sharing the teardown. Just sharing a suggestion, please use a spudger instead of the screwdriver to avoid touching/shorting any metal contacts :) by accident when prying the board out of the casing. There might be undischarged capacitors which may discharge causing a short. It happened to me and learned this the hard way. 😅
Looking forward ot review it my self. As it stands it looks like its fairly minimal and I guess like all new devices theiy have a workflow in mind and we probabbly cant see it yet as so many things are missing still. I am hoping for Site to Site Magic kinda VPN as well and if that was the case we should be abel to move a number fo them. Nice Video by the way and keep up the good work
At 3:40 you say the Back Plate is 'Aluminium' - WTH is that? Besides, It might be Zinc Cast, it's thermal conductivity is even higher than other metals like Aluminum by 10% (around 120W/m-K)
None of my sfp+ modules worked with it so I want able to do anything interesting for above 1Gbps. So unfortunately this will have to wait for another day :/
@@SPXLabs well, that is not a good start, they said that they should be compatible with pretty every existing SPF+ modules, anyway, thanks for the info.
@pbrigham well mine were TP-Link branded, Ubiquiti Branded, and FS.com generic which should have worked but idk. Also my finistar ones didn’t work but those are 1G.
"freedom units"? really.... bruh! Only United States, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Liberia, Palau, Marshall Islands and Microneia uses Fahrenheit, the rest of the world uses Celcius...

I was using OPNsense on an industrial, fan less, mini pc with 2.5 GBPS nics but I had issues with stability so that's why I switched.
It’s going to be very interesting how this thing gets updated. My understanding is it runs openwrt under the hood. So the possibilities are endless
@@SPXLabs I just got an update notification yesterday, and it was a simple click, reboot, and done. I haven't noticed anything different, though.
I’ve had several updates now and most of the bugs have been worked out. The LED controls work now etc. Still waiting on Tailscale implementation
Good to know. Mine has been buggy also. Like it just stops allowing my computers to connect to the internet until I reboot it
I have high hopes for them. I should have one in my hands by end of next week :)
Same! Definitely going to be very interesting to see them grow and what they do with their products.
10 gig but can it actually route that speed?????
sure, because there are no rules preventing anything, the rules on the unit aren't working yet. It's a "router" it moves packets.

if your under network click on the image not the renaming to open the settings instead of going dashboard and clicking more

#face palm, really ? You're comment suggests you know nothing about electronics at all.

Very true. All of their stuff has been pretty simple so far it’s likely so will everything else. The future can’t come fast enough!
Create a firewall rule, Block traffic from vlan1 to 10. See it work !
It’s too hard. Do it for me?

I guess it could be. I’m just making assumptions here
@@SPXLabs Thanks for taking it apart - it looks well built, with capable Chips inside. Hope they deliver the missing SW Features soon!
@jfkastner it looks like openWRT under the hood. So I’m sure it will be easy ton implement but they have to put their flair on it

I did something wrong with my incantation because it obviously isn’t working. 🤔
Is a 10GB router right? should be able to route at 10GB speeds, so what about some inter vlan routing to see if can actually do 10GB.

I could try, i put all types of modules in mine and had no issues at all. 1-10 gig. MM & SM & a Dac cable.
I was going to ask what brands you used. I’ve got to get some new ones apparently.
Can we get some better views of the chips? I cannot read any of the numbers.
Is that the Level 1 music playing towards the end?
Nice little box, will need some plastic pry tools. Tk U for sharing
I have them I’m just lazy and dont enjoy cleaning up afterwards.
Odd that they bring out a router with 2.5Gbe ethernet ports yet all their switches have only 1Gbe ethernet ports... 🤔
For now sure but better to come out with it now then refresh later when they release new switches that are 2.5G+
@@SPXLabs Yeah you're right but it does make me wonder why they didn't release 2.5Gb switches from the off, in all honesty.
My best guess is it’s because they are so brand new into the market they didn’t want to screw anything up
Not overly impressed with this new host....wheres the guy with the beard?
He retired. New guy taking over
