    Lee, it was good enough to put on a Beatles album but Paul had been working on the song and just decided to give it to Badfinger for their first hit single after they signed with Apple. He insisted that they do the song exactly like his demo. Paul wrote several songs and gave them to other bands to record using an alias for his pen name. Another example of that is, Peter and Gordon's "A world Without Love" written by Paul . That was their first hit as well. He also produced and arranged Welsh singer, Mary Hopkin's first hit, "Those were the Days" (It was adapted it from an old Russian folk song). Then he wrote and produced her follow up single, "Goodbye". There's a video on UA-cam of Paul's original demo of "Goodbye" as well! The man was a regular hit making machine!

    Great choice. Paul is remarkable. He goes into the studio an hour before the Beatles showed up and recorded this demo for a Badfinger song playing all instruments. FYI Badfinger originally was The Iveys, a band discovered by Beatles road manager Mal Evans. At Apple, each Beatle was allow to produce as much as they wanted, but only George and Paul really got into it. George did Jackie Lomax, Doris Troy and the Hari Krisna choir among others. Paul not only did some Badfinger, but James Taylor's original Apple album. He also did Mary Hopkins two apple albums. She was a Welsh singer who won one of those star search contests. Paul produced her Those were the days single and wrote and produced her single Goodbye. (a great Paul composition) She left the music business after her two albums. John only produced on his Zapple label (a lot of Ono stuff and George's Wonderwall album) Ringo didn't produce.

    It's McCartney on drums. He recorded it on his own as a demo for Badfinger. There was only him and an Engineer in the studio at the time. It was never intended to be a Beatles song. Other hit songs McCartney gave away include World Without Love for Peter and Gordon and Goodbye for Mary Hopkins. Both classic McCartney melodies.

      Paul Mccartney did say later in the 90's that all songs floating around at the time in 1969 including this were under consideration for the Abbey Rd album.

    It simply put, was a Beatles throwaway song. They did it a few times with a few songs where he we're rather where they look kind of just throw something together and still record it. I think what surprised me the most. To be honest with you is the fact that bad finger would want to cover a song that The Beatles never flood anything of themselves.

    Theres a session tape around of Paul in the studio hands on producing the Badfinger session. He made them stick to his arrangement and parts with a couple of exceptions. Plus sped it up. Also: Baby Blue is essential. One of the best pop songs of the 70s. Started with George producing then turned over to a young Todd Rundgren to finish. Last song used in TV series Breaking Bad.

Music for the movie performance by Badfinger.. other Badfinger songs of which George Harrison was involved in the production of Day After Day, baby blue, no matter what the song baby blue there are two different versions one was a UK released. The other was a US release the difference being reaper being added to the snare drum. You should do those back to back see which one you prefer.

    The Badfinger version was a Big hit in the early 70s. The Beatles sort of mentored and underwrote Badfinger. Even (Like this) giving and writing songs for them. Badfinger was a one of the top new Bands, until everything started to go very wrong. They even sounded a lot like the Beatles.

    Paul dug Come And Get It out to play live around 2011 and it was great to hear it. Talking Paul, today was the release of One Hand Clapping a live document of Wings live in Abbey Road Studios in 1974. Originally a film that never saw the light of day apart from bootlegs the audio and more has just been put out and Paul is on top form.

    The creepiest cover version (if you want to call it that) of this song is from the early 70s documentary Manson, about the Manson Family murders, which were of course inspired by twisted misreadings of Helter Skelter and other songs from the White Album. At one point, the filmmaker is interviewing some of the Manson girls (Squeaky Fromme, Sandra Good, etc.) at Spahn Ranch (their hideout) and asks them if they're afraid of being caught by the police for the things they say in the interview. They immediately start singing "If you want it, here it is, come and get it".

    There's a much better Beatles remastered and remixed version on the Abbey Road Super Deluxe box set that was remixed and remastered by George Martin's son.
    Badfinger version has the benefit of a complete production. McCartney was just laying down an initial demo. I'd love to hear what a full Beatles version would have sounded like.

  • @Hernal03
    @Hernal03 14 днів тому +1

    The Beatles version was just a demo with McCartney playing all instruments and no harmonies or participation from the rest of the group --- it was simply recorded to give Badfinger a template for them to record their version ---- The Badfinger version is more lively (thanks especially to the harmonies they added) because it was intended to be a release unlike McCartney's version --- Paul's version was never properly finished or even intended for Beatle release. Just imagine the Beatles giving it the proper treatment (harmonies and guitars from John and George and Drums from Ringo) as they did with all of the Abbey Road songs around that same time --- it would have been great.

    You played them backwards. Paul's demo is what he played for the Iveys. Changed their name to Badfinger. They were the first band signed by Apple records (the Iveys played with the Beatles in Germany), but complained because they weren't being promoted. This song was Paul's answer. Great band. Tragic music industry story ending.

    This is what was considered a 'throw away' song by Beatles standards. In truth, there wasn't much to the song. It was basically two verses that were practically identical, repeated twice, plus a middle-eight section. It was not unusual for McCartney to come up with a tune and know precisely what he wanted it to sound like before it was recorded. He had the gift.

    If the Beatles version was actually produced for a record it would have been much more slick. It's mostly McCartney anyway (not sure whether McCartney or Ringo did the drums - and if they looped some of the drums parts, the fills all sound the same). Yep, McCartney on all instruments.
