"No Matter What" is a great one from Badfinger
This was one of the first singles I ever bought. Great record!
The song written by Paul McCartney for the movie starring Peter sellers and Ringo star called magic christian released in 1969
You're dead right Harri. There is indeed a demo which Badfinger followed to the letter. You will find it on Anthology 3. Paul plays all the instruments on the demo and his drumming style often has hints of Ringo in it.
Bad finger wrote Without You which was a number 1 hit for Harry Nilson when he covered it You must hear this. one. It well deserved its number 1It's a classic Come and Get It is the title song for a zany Peter Sellers film. The Magic Christian that co starred Ringo Starr
The story I read was that Harry first heard “Without You” on the radio while drunk at a party and thought it was John Lennon. The next morning he asked someone, “What was that Lennon tune we were listening to last night?” It’s interesting how Tom Evans could sound like Lennon and Pete Ham could sound like McCartney.
@@Fool3SufferingFools Yes I heard Harry Nilson thought it was a Beatles song and was scouring the Beatles track listing on their album until he arrived at the truth. This number 1 helped assuage my Beatles famine in 1971 when it hit the top spot . Of course a number one in the pop saturated 70s was unavoidable back then ! The song was everywhere
Badfinger,, One Of The Saddest Stories In Rock History..R.I.P. Pete,, Tom & Mike..Thanks For All You Gave Us..Gone But Definitely Not Forgotten.
As somebody else mentioned, when they were first signed to Apple they were called The Iveys. “The Iveys” was a name they adopted in tribute to The Hollies, who in turn had named themselves after Buddy Holly. And of course it was Buddy Holly’s band The Crickets that had inspired the name “Beatles.”
I loved this song. I had the 45 (single) & played it over & over.
Badfinger is a fabulous group. You should check out the songs they wrote themselves--Day After Day, Baby Blue, and No Matter What are some good ones to start with. And check out Harry Nilsson doing their song "Without You."
"Day After Day", "Baby Blue" and "No Matter What" are all excellent songs.
Let’s not forget “Name Of The Game!”
Brilliant little song there's Paul's cover on one of the beatles anthology also very great
"DAY AFTER DAY". It makes me sad to hear it considering what became of them. George Harrison produced the single and played the guitar along with the great Leon Russell on piano. George was supposed to produce the whole album but he was too busy organizing The Concert For Bangladesh. Bad finger was his backing band for the concert and I think Leon Russell was there as well.
Mccartney does a version on the Anthology album
And the original Paul sung demo ua-cam.com/video/kxtX_IIcLZI/v-deo.html
Need to correct your thumbnail. McCartney's demo is on The Beatles' Anthology 3. Just Paul. He told Badfinger "if you do it just like this it will be a hit." No Matter What, Baby Blue, Day After Day are all classics. Boy Band...um no. They play instruments and don't do choreography. A very tragic band though.
Yeah, the mentioned all the monster hits! Great, great stuff! Apple of My Eye, Maybe Tomorrow, Take it All, Carry On till Tomorrow..... All second tier great songs. Badfinger wrote the monster hit Without You. (Can't live..... If living is without you.) You may know Baby Blue from the Breaking Bad finale.
@@debjorgo No One Knows from their album Wish You Were (last from the original lineup) is a great song too. ✌
@@robertsaul234 I have to admit, I only have the Apple albums. I'll have to pick up Wish You Were Here.
@@debjorgo It really is one of their best👍
"Baby Blue" is a perfect song.
Harri! Badfinger also did a song called Day After Day. George Harrison played the guitar solo on it!
Think it was a duet with Joey Molland, but yeah, definitely George was on it.
Harrison produced that record too
Yes, McCartney wrote this song but Badfinger
were totally capable of writing their own hits,
and they did so.
Badfinger were literally thought to be "the next
Beatles". They are also from Wales, which is just
across the water from Liverpool. The main writers,
Pete Ham and Tom Evans, were not only excellent
singers and writers, but Tom had McCartney's vocal
range, which almost nobody had. Like the Beatles,
they were a 4 piece band, 3 main singers out front,
wrote their own songs, words and music, played
their own instruments, sang all their own vocals,
doing straight rock. Like the Beatles, they were
also very young, poor, gifted, hungry, and U.K. bred.
As a teenager in 1970, I went from The Beatles
directly to Badfinger, because the sound was so
similar and so good, I could not believe it. The
Beatles had broken up, and it almost seemed
like someone invented Badfinger to lessen the
blow to the world. That's exactly what it felt like.
Their best album was "Wish You Were Here". In my
opinion, nobody ever came as close to the quality
of The Beatles, even to this day.
The Beatles, especially Paul and George, were
grooming Badfinger. When George Harrison
did his concert for Bangladesh, Badfinger were
there. Badfinger were also part of the backing
musicians for the "ALL THINGS MUST PASS"
album, by Harrison. McCartney wrote their first
hit because he knew they were good, and wanted
to give them a shot in the arm. Ringo also used
them on his "Magic Christian" Album.
*The band evolved from an earlier group called
The Iveys, formed in 1961, which became the first
group signed by the Beatles' Apple label in 1968.
It was the Beatles roadie, Mal Evans, who discovered
them and introduced them to the Beatles. The band
renamed themselves Badfinger, after the working
title for the Beatles' 1967 song "With a Little Help
from My Friends" ("Bad Finger Boogie"). From 1968
to 1973, Badfinger recorded five albums for Apple
and toured extensively, before they became embroiled
in the chaos of Apple's dissolution.
Badfinger had four consecutive worldwide hits
from 1970 to 1972: "Come and Get It" (written
and produced by Paul McCartney, 1970), "No
Matter What" (produced by Mal Evans, 1970),
"Day After Day" (produced by George Harrison,
1971), and "Baby Blue" (produced by Todd
Rundgren, 1972). Their song "Without You"
(1970) has been recorded many times, and
became a US and UK number-one hit for Harry
Nilsson and, two decades later, a UK number
one for Mariah Carey.
Tragically, Pete Ham committed suicide over
the band's management and financial troubles,
and a few years later, Tom Evans followed suite.
So very, very sad.
Joey Molland is the only surviving original
member now. He has kept the band's music
going as best he could over the years. Joey
also wrote several of their hits as an original
member.
Thank you Badfinger.
Rest in peace,
Pete Ham (1947- 1975) aged 28 years
Tom Evans (1947- 1983) aged 36 years
Mike Gibbons (1949- 2005) aged 56 years
*(some of this info came from wiki).
I appreciate the great info.

Badfinger "Baby Blue" "Day After Day""No Matter What" And Without You"
And "I'll Be The One"
Already been mentioned, but if you're going to do more of them, try Day After Day with Harrison on slide guitar.
I love this band even though their time in the spotlight was short. Their song “No Matter What” is my favorite. I guess I loved them because they did sound similar to my all time favorites.
The Badfinger song Baby Blue was the last song on the show Breaking Bad. It fit perfectly 😎
It sure did. And in 2013, Baby Blue charted for the first time in the U.K. because of it.
McCartney is literally a music factory! He wrote Peter and Gordons first single, "A World Without Love" . He wrote it when he was 16 years old. (But it's credited to Lennon/McCartney.) Paul was dating Peter Asher's sister, Jane at the time and he moved into her London Home and shared a room with Peter. He played it for him and Peter asked if he could use it.
And also he written, among many other songs, the hit Goodbye Goodbye sang by the lovely and truly beautiful singer Mary Hopkins 👍
@@B.R.0101 Paul also produced "Those Were The Days." for the beautiful Mary Hopkins.
Whenever I hear this song I think of one thing...the film "The Magic Christian" starring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr.
There IS a demo that was recorded, during the Abbey Road sessions, by Paul who had shown up to the studio well ahead of the other three, and he cranked out a demo that sounds identical to the Badfinger version (minus the vocal harmonies) -- and Paul recorded all the instruments! Here's a link to the official release from the Beatles' own UA-cam channel: ua-cam.com/video/JSCVOQv4j6E/v-deo.html
Reportedly Paul, who produced the Badfinger single, played it for the guys and said, "Record this just like this and we'll have a hit."
I always get sad when I hear Badfinger. The story of what happened to them is too depressing to tell.
This song ended up as a centerpiece of Ringo's film with Peter Sellers of Terry Sothern's hilariously transgressive novel 'The Magic Christian'. Spike Milligan also has a great scene with Ringo and his old Goon Show mate. Having the Goons on his CV went a long way toward breaking the ice between George Martin and the Beatles at their first meeting. Guess he must be cool! Lmao.
From 'The Magic Christian' (1969) starring Peter Sellers and Ringo.
This song was featured in the 1969 Film "The Magic Christian" which starred Peter Sellers, Ringo Starr and Raquel Welch! .... A brilliant Black Comedy!
It Is Nice To Get The Chance To See Them Performing & So Happy,, Knowing Their Story & The Misery To Come For Them.
BADFINGER "NO MATTER WHAT",, "DAY AFTER DAY" & "BABY BLUE"
Badfinger alot of great songs, you need to dig into them more, because you never heard of them, thanks 😎🏹
"Goodbye" from the Welsh Mary Hopkin. Another McCartney song on the Apple label. You can definitely hear Pauls style in the song. Great song.
They don’t need any body they great
Great band with beautiful vocal harmonies and powerful guitars.
Bad finger were an amazing band. They had several hits, and the bad was set up pretty much like The Beatles. Pete Ham was and amazing song writer, and singer. He was the main one. Tom Evens was also amazing he sang the Paul parts, higher voice. Great, great band. Their story on the other hand really, really sucked. Very, very sad story. You need to look into Badfinger. They were discovered by Mal Evens.
I am clarifying who MAL EVANS is, in case Harry doesn't know. Mal Evans was their long time ROAD MANAGER from the days before they became famous
I really like that you comment on more unusual songs. No Matter What was one of the first singles I ever bought.
I do remember this song which haven't hear for long time. Completely sounds like a Paul's song.
What a tragic story about Badfinger. They would’ve been HUGE. They’d still be around.
Artist's Signed To Apple Records During The First Year Included Artist's Like James Taylor,, Billy Preston,, The Iveys (Who Would Become Badfinger)..Etc.Etc.
May I suggest some of Badfinger’s non hits gems: Perfection, Take It All, It’s Over, Sometimes.
There was an obscure Apple artist named Brute Force. The Beatles' label released a limited edition single from him called The King of Fuh. I believe George produced the song. It's a bit of a novelty song ("the fuh king"- wink wink).
George Harrison used three members of Badfinger for his backing band at the 1972 benefit concert in New York for Bangladesh.
Harri, love your reaction from an excellent but ultimately tragic band, who's members suffered depression and took their own lives because of it. My recommendation from them is "Day after Day", a beautiful ballad. Take care kid.
the beatles were very generous. try "bad to me" by billy j kramer and the dakotas. they write a song for cilla black and even titled it "it's for you".
Pete Ham, their lead singer hung himself in his garage. The band signed away all the rights to their music to an unscrupulous agent, and the band fell apart. They had a hand full of monster hits though. One of me favorite bands ever.
I knew all of them. Still breaks my heart.
beatles should have done this ...
Try thier next hit "No Matter What".
"No Matter What" was a big hit for them, too.
Badfinger: Some of their BEST SONGS:
1. Meanwhile Back At The Ranch/ Should I Smoke
2. In The Meantime/Some Other Time
3. Dennis
4. Baby Blue
5. No Matter What
6. Day After Day
7. Come And Get It
8. Just A Chance
9. Love Time
10. Name of The Game
Paul McCartney's original demo recording he gave to Bad Finger is also available. I have Paul McCartney's version on 45 somewhere. I bought it as a kid in the late '70s I think. They stuck very close the the original.
Paul recorded a demo for the band during the White Album sessions.
He played ALL the parts and vocals.
Told Badfinger to play it exactly like the demo.
It readily available on line or in the Anthology series.
Check out the film "The Magic Christian" staring Ringo Starr and Peter Sellers. Fun, avante guard comedy.
This song and others were featured in the film.
Please react to the 2013 Version of "Come And Get It" by the hollywood Vampires with McCartney on leadvocals. Its so cool:D
