@@RoPFilms-j1q I sold it 2 months ago. Incredibly cool piece of tech and a stunning looking image, but the files were way too large and focus was far from reliable. Some people seem to have figured it out, but I would never use it for a client gig out of fear of missing the shot.
@@React104 Noted, that is what I fear. The last wedding I filmed from from 11:00am to 10:30pm and large files is what I fear. Focus is key. If you find a good camera with a good focus, please share. Sometimes, wedding guests come up to my lens screaming and I am like backtracking to keep camera in focus. lol
@@RoPFilms-j1q I could probably shoot 4-5TB of footage in that time and not even be shooting 8K. I know some people will say I’m overshooting, and that’s fine, but that’s my workflow and how I shoot. I’d rather throw stuff away than not get enough. I can shoot for the same amount of time with my FX3 and be around 1TB with a near identical image and have 10x better autofocus.
Again, I love what that camera could be…it’s just not currently what I needed when I bought it.
By far one of the MOST underrated channels on UA-cam.

I enjoyed watching and laughed hard when you the battery and memory card issue at the beginning. I film wedding with a GH5s or S1H depending on the length of the wedding. I am considering the Ronin-4D 8K and getting multiple batteries and memory card will solve a few issues and keep things calm. Great footage and glad it all worked out for you.
Thanks for this Ronin 8k overview ❤ After renting the 4D 8k for a shoot I decided this is my next camera purchase to accompany my Komodo X. Two great cameras that fill each other’s gaps. With the Flex add-on and the Pgytech backpack the 4D is even more versatile and enjoyable to shoot with!

Also I would advice to use thunderbolt external ssd to fully use the bandwidth of your macbook, cause samsung T9 is usb 3.2 and I may suggest to use Hedge Offshoot to backup your footages.
Great video!!! Were you shooting exclusively with the 4D 8K or did you have an additional camera getting an additional angle? I'm trying to see if it's possible to cover an entire wedding as a solo shooting with just the 4D.
Hey thanks! So as I show at the end of the video I did have my 6K Pro on hand as a secondary mostly as a backup but also for more tight shots as my only ronin 4D lens is the 17-28mm (besides an anamorphic lens) so to answer your question if I had a 50+mm lens for my 4D I 100% would feel confident in that being my only camera. I think it’s built for events like weddings to be honest.

Yes
Just so you know you can power the camera with dtap or other power standards and use much higher capacity batteries.
In terms of only using 1 mag. You're wild for that lol

How is your handheld ability with the 4D? Do you always use sports mode or just lock the gimbal?
I'm wondering how good you can actually do handheld with this because I don't want to do gimbal work all the time.
Your gambled time that you had left of 30% of battery time was great enough because of the cinematography of each shot you’ve taken so quickly like it was a million dollar movie 🎥

If you were delivering in 4K, was filming in 8K more of a curiosity thing? I feel like the stress of not having the space would just make me drop to 4K to get more SSD space if I knew I wasn't delivering in 8K 😅
100% it was for me testing / I personally always want the best quality I can. I’ve shot for big broadcast companies who ask for 1080p and I still will always shoot 6-8K RAW for my own personal archive if it’s a cool project 😂

I think it's ok to shoot 8k with the Ronin 4D, but I would have more ssd and a Data Manager/Wrangler. =)

So Prograde makes these cf express B cards with write speeds of 2400mbps (way higher than the DJI SSD) curious if you know if it would work with all the formats and codecs + frame rates on the 4D?
How did you covert the 8k footage to the smaller size ? What are the steps with that? Sorry a newbie to that.
Is ok for me also 8k raw for every thing l would record,just about what yoy said we need some ssd memory and finish the Quality is the quality .
Did you check your shots to ensure none were transferred corrupted? This is why you should never format the main card until after you have checked this.
Yup, I quickly cycle through each clip to make sure there’s no issue with the files before formatting and backing up.
But that never happens with the new ssd's like the T9 4tb, mabey that was an issue with past hardware

ProRes RAW! Sadly it’s the only way to get 8K 75fps.
@@initialfocus yeah, i hope theyll bring an update to use those anything higher 8k/30 in prores hq. When we tested it, it didnt have a raw license so we didnt really try it
@@VirtueMedia Yes we need more than 8k 30 fps Pro Res 422 HQ on the inspire 3 drone as well especially because of the awful rolling shutter jello effect

Early 2023 M2 Max 16” MacBook Pro. Edit just fine in resolve usually just change to quarter resolution playback. I hate proxy workflows lol

Im considering the ronin 4D however, would you know if they fixed the back focus issue especially zooming in and out?? and do you have a review of the ronin 4d? id love to know if I could use my sony E mount lenses. 🙏🙂
I’d definitely stick to the 6K if I was shooting weddings all the time haha and if you mean the par focal issue then yes! I think 3 videos back my main 8K (vs red Komodo I think in the title) video. Watch last 3-4min and I talk about that fix 👍🏼

Basically all the footage I see coming out of this video camera has that dull red brownish cinematic look. Is it possible to make the colors look more like canon or vibrant sony colors?
6k pro looks so much better than the ronin! Im shooting a wedding in Jan. komodo X, OG and the 6k pro!
That’s a killer combo! As much as I love the 4D Blackmagic really nailed the BRAW codec and Gen5 color. And the Komodo X is just 🤤🤤🤤
I agree. But I think that we value the color science but the client doesn’t car. As long as it’s better then a cell phone. I’m sure they would love it. That’s why I wouldn’t get the Panasonic S5 II. Great camera but Sonys color science is way better to me. Dare I saw. Better then BM. I’m 50/50 on that one.

Bahaha I’d argue it depends who colors it. All cameras now days are mostly 10-12bit and some version of LOG. A pro colorist can match or make any camera profile look killer.
I think color science is relevant to most of us who want something that allows us to style to our liking with ease.
@@bmefilms6879 I think it really depends on the scenario. I Think certain skin complexion’s really complement the more magenta tones of the Sony. But in the more average scenarios yes the black magic does usually look better. But it does have the advantage of being able to shoot 12 bit. So I wouldn’t say it’s an exact apples to apples comparison. I do however prefer Sony over canon for sure. If you’re looking at one 12 bit image and another 12 bit image graded by the same person

3TB?????!!!! FACK THAT 😅😅 OMG LOL 8k is not it lol or even filming a wedding on this camera. It's like yea it can do it. But there are wayyyyyy better tools for the job.
Yeah, especially considering the downsampled 4k still uses the 8k sensor with all the benefits and more DR with SNR = 2. Unless youre doing VFX work or heavy grading it's not worth!
Do you really need to shoot 8k for wedding? Even 4k😂, most people even don't know how to playback😅
A lot of the benefits of 8k are not to deliver the video in 8k, but for extra sharpness / effect / colour grading work. It also reduces noise! If you look at DR charts the DR increases a lot at SNR = 2 in the downsampled 4k! Also the 8k has more colour bit depth so smoother colours, as well as a bunch of other stuff

That’s quite misleading and useless IMO. I’d rather prefer to see your face to get that’s it’s your video/channel, than always see your girlfriend (I suppose) when YOU post a video.
Revisiting this video could you have possibly filmed in 4k 60 or 6k to save storage space or does the 8k sensor only film in 8k? and at 5:08 when you switched lenses did you have the ronin on a tripod or handheld or a combination of both lol?
