The back focus has a simple fix and that is to go to the LENS menu and select NA for lens in use. I also bought the DJI zoom lens and it took me an hour to figure out the issue and I was also disappointed that all the UA-camrs who received the FREE sponsored DJI products never mentioned it in their videos.
You've discovered the issue I have with tech reviewers on UA-cam. None of them talk about the cons or faults of a product anymore. They only advertise the products. You want a new camera? Sorry that Sony camera only does 50p and 10 minute recordings, why does nobody talk about this? You want 60p and longer recording sorry you need the US only version of the same camera but no one is going to tell you that.
This seems to be more of an issue with companies that can gatekeep access to their products, which typically is going to happen more with very expensive products like this that reviewers are less likely to just go out and buy retail. So I don't think this is true across all of tech, but it probably is more prevalent in cinema/production cameras than smartphones, computer components, laptops, etc.
I love UA-cam tech reviewers. I get the dopamine hit of buying the new gear by just watching the reviews. I watch enough to get tired of the product before spending a dime. By the way if people REALLY kept buying useless gear merely because UA-camrs told them too the resale market would have loads of cheep barely used gear. It doesn’t.
You must be watching all the wrong channels to get your info lol. Gerald Undone, Dpreview/PetaPixel, and Camera Conspiracies go over stuff like exactly what you listed all the time.
Make sure the lens profile you're using is NA and do not calibrate it. Ours works perfect. This also applies to other lenses like our Sony 55 1.8. Flawless autofocus.
Interesting, I’ve had this camera for a while and never experienced “back focusing”. I did have an issue where I accidentally built a profile for the lens but learned that you don’t and shouldn’t use a profile.
The 17-28 is profiled in the firmware I believe, so there isn't a need and if you do, the lens doesn't respond properly. BTW I love this camera and use it a lot. I have footage on my channel, granted I'm not some epic video editor / colorists.@@Joechungphotography
Well, UA-camrs that highlights flaws do not get stuff to review (unless you're LTT or MKBHD). Some of the best product reviewers I follow have horrible subscriber counts, and even they do have a tendency to put their criticism in a "positive" light, rather than the "burn all 'em bridges" approach Gamers Nexus is trying to take.😅
This cam set up is ahead of its time. Reminds me of the very first $400 iPhone where it was new to jave a crazy data plan with no insurance protection and you had to buy at ATT. You also had to jail break your phone and that voided out the manufacturer warranty. If you brike your phone, the only replacemwnt plan was buying a refurbished iPhone. People eventually adapted and paid. $400 was a crazy peice for a cell phone at the time and people paid for it. Most those issues got resolved pewtty quickly
This isn’t a cine camera. I think the key defining factor of a “cine cam” is reliability. Your camera is responsible for the pay of everyone in the room - without a video, their jobs (and the clients money) are for nothing. Not a reliable setup if a firmware update doesn’t get released to fix a mission critical issue
The issues he´s having is with autofocus, which is not reliable in any system outthere, not even Sony´s... If you manual focus, as in actual cinema sets, the camera is amazing and more versatile than any camera I´ve used. And I´ve used most of them for feature films, commercials and network TV series.
why no youtuber talk about that ? well simple, they get paid, most youtuber will automatiquely remove most bad thing, as some of you said the youtube tech is a dark area, we can't trust youtube for honest review that why we should research on most platform possible, forum, social media... as we can, btw I suspect some youtuber to not testing at all, some just turn it on, do a video and that it
You’ve inspired me to continue building my camera rig myself. Most of the Ronin features can be accomplished by cobbling a bunch of stuff together from different manufacturers.
Why did you not find the issue in other UA-cam videos?!?!?!?! THEY GOT PAID BRO......... Dji:"Hey youtuber leave out that backfocus thing we're working on it and it will be fixed, also we won't pay you if you don't"....
You can go a long way with a tripod. Think about the framing and which camera settings you will use, decide which of these will work for the story you want to tell. If you do it well, it will be more cinematic - when do you need a hand-held camera? Maybe for your B-roll and your DJI Ronin with spider web 😊 comes into its own if you want to stabilize the shot. Oh yes, lighting and focal point - right now there is far too much that takes attention in the picture.
Software issues are 100% a deal breaker !. Such a shame for such beautiful hardware 😢 If sony and or canon copy that chicken neck its lights out for DJI
Off topic - "Yeah buddy join the club" is the saying coined by Blackmagic URSA shooters (4,6K and 12K) which hasn't been updated in YEARS and is their highest end cinema camera they sell so not only DJI. Pro camera companies are very slow on updates as they have many products they sell and support and they often play "favourites"
Man I love my S1H I paid $6500 for the Panasonic LUMIX S1H & The LUMIX S Pro 24-70mm F2.8. I’d love this for the horizontal & vertical stabilization on the axis
Sorry for your discovery post purchase, I'm sure that hurts, but watching you let DJI have a piece of your mind made me go, "OH HECK YEAH!" We need more tech reviewers like you folks.
The 4D is not a good value as it honestly is quite niche for what it is especially for the price. It has it's pros but some pretty big cons. I only know one person who owns one (DJI sent it to them for review) and their daily driver is still their URSA Mini Pro G2 because of the limitations the DJI has. I personally have a URSA Mini Pro G1 and a Pocket Cinema 6K G2 for run-and-gun (with wireless video) and for myself, that covers it and the price is way less. A Sony A7SIII is a great camera! Just toss the Cosmo C1 or Mars 4K on your belt and run a cable to it. No need to mount it to your gimbal setup. I mount my C1 on the back of my G2 inline with some rails and a custom bracket I milled on my CNC machine. Works great and keeps the rig light and less cumbersome.
Question: is this only an issue on DJI lenses? Or an issue on all zooms? I wonder if DJI designed the LIDAR to only be used with primes originally, and then went OH FUCK when their lens division came out with the 17-28 power zoom.
3:40 the only reason gimbal is an issue for balance is because you are using the wrong lens. Switch to a cinema lens. When they zoom there is no increase in size.
This whole video is wrong, what do they even need raw video for. And even just Sony 16-35 PZ F4 is perfect for gimbals, internal zoom and its parfocal.
After considering its price you still really get A LOT even if its the 8K version, which is rather cheap at just ~12000 bucks. Of course not something a consumer would buy but definitely highly interesting for professionals. Its also very impressive that you can operate this alone rather easily. Sure its unfortunate that the backpack takes forever to come out but in the end you could still build one yourself and therefore benifit from a lot of its features at a cheap price. Since you are not shooting some blah blah broadcast news low budget production stuff but more like commercials and movies, etc. on something like this, you can bring a camera assistant to operate the focus and even the gimbal orientation for you. The only downside that matters in my usecase is the rather slow rolling shutter, at least with the 8K version. The 6K version has quicker rolling shutter at the cost of dynamic range and resolution of course.
Regarding HDMI audio out on the High Bright remote, the firmware release notes for August 2022 say “Added HDMI output audio ability for the remote monitor expansion plate.” You tried it and could not get it to work?
I have the rs2 gimbal with raveneye and a pocket 4k and even when using a vmount battery, it all balances fine. It makes zero sense that you would buy a Ronin 4d and spend thousands, and then not shoot raw.
For the kind of production you are doing, and the needs you described, I really think you would be best off with a proper shoulder mount ENG camera, like the Sony PXW-Z450 or Panasonic AJ-CX4000.
I bought first product Ronin S gimbal and found they did not allow to switch to front camera of the phone so that I can use the phone also as a monitor(sort of) during active track. They marketed raveneye for rs2 for the function which could be fixed by 2 lines of programming code. I did not buy any brand new dji product as of today as a protest.
I’ve had to learn the hardway about UA-cam reviewers. A lot of good reviews on shitty mics and what’s the deal with people swearing by Elgato. I’ve bought a lot of Elgato stuff and the only piece of equipment I haven’t had problems with is the teleprompter. Stream Deck is trash.
thx à lot I wanted to move from my Canon C70 to the Ronin 4D. finally when I see the seriousness of canon on my camera with more and more brilliant updates, we will wait later
That camera produces an image that looks like garbage though… I’m assuming this is raw or something like that but why does the raw look so much worse than that on the 03 air system camera?
So, you filmed handheld with a simple camera, and instead of trying a gimbal you thought to go all in to a new, version 1.0, entirely different system, meant for different uses (like advertising and documentary and shooting outside) and not product unboxing videos?
I think you should look into a ninja v and atomos connect module. You can get a lot of similar things such as cheaper ssds, remote monitoring, live streaming, a lot cheaper than that.
I would return that. That's a lot of money to spend on "coming soon" features and bugs... considering it's already been over a year and none of them have been addressed.

There’s something about the footage coming from this DJI Ronin camera that I strongly dislike. It’s the movement and the general image I keep seeing… bothers me…
I wonder if it's that whole thing about creators having access to pre release firmware or not final firmware, and if they do discover an issue, because it's not a full review, or they claim they will fix the issue soon, they aren't allowed to comment on this issue? Hard to say.
I work as a 1. Assistent Camera for features and Commercials. Yeah it makes good Pictures. As I agree with a lot of your concerns as I own this camera myself. The film industry would not be in most cases be streaming audio out of that monitor as its intention is to be a directors monitor / 1 AC monitor for pulling focus. What I do have an issue with is they are the Apple of cameras with all of the addons you need. including no SDI out on the main body of the camera or TC sync. One thing you do need to keep in mind this is a cinema camera first, not a streaming camera.

I haven't had the backfocus issue since the last update months ago, I use it several times a week and haven't had a single issue for my use cases, which are doc/interviews/real estate, event coverage etc. It isn't a perfect camera, but dang is it close considering the integration and features.
@@906MediaProductions Majority of people still have under 4K resolution monitors :D So there is no big benefit of filming and releasing 4K - 8K content. Since only few people can actually see it in 4K or 8K. 1080p looks equally good to 4K if the bitrate and camera is good. UA-cam just has bad bitrate and overall bad quality for 1080p
The JVC has built in streaming booth ways , so you can take a feed from a studio, sound quality is as good you'll as you can get, on most you can plug in a receiver pack, have four channels of audio with low cut and limiters . They are expensive but they will work and will keep on working.

why buying a 4d and then using as simple camera on a gimbal attached to a cord. the interesting part is the 4th axis stabilization imho
Honest. Bravo.
Keep the videos coming!!
Clearly Robin was not made for static
people don enjoy hand shake camera in youtube, but they really like in tv/streaming series and movies, so dumb situation.
Hmm, never hit the 4K _as why bother_ , but well... narrow DOF is more noticable AND WTF is falling from the ceiling? Wads of cottonballs?
Switching back to 1080p and will just listen more than SEE. _bro, set is a mess!!!_
Hey... not going anywhere, just say'n
edit: shot your load at @10:50 and gotta say... impressive stabilization, not like I know anything but it was kind of spooky to see how well that expensive kit works - not a videographer and even my dumbA is impressed
edit: system updates/issues/formats... umm, just wondering how much does it cost? easy to find out $6,200 - $6,800 - OH, those are YOUR issues, never will be mine - bugging out as it's not made for me, and that's OK. For others who are _(for lack of a better word)_ Creators, I'm sure this is priceless info. Be back soon for more consumer tech news. _(sup w/depricating Hot News - didn't even notice the change - my bad)_
Make an example and return all of the fancy stuff until DJI fixed the backfocus issue. DJI has become one of those companies who push new products before fixing existing ones…
So you watched loads of videos before purchasing, but didnt go on any user forums for real feedback until after your purchase?
Thats hardly a cinema camera
Not to say its a terrible camera, but as someone who works on big shows and movies, I would not call this a cinema camera. It has its place though.
Three sensor cameras have far better colour reproduction and the b4 lenses are par focus and a vast zoom range in comparison
The JVC has built in streaming booth ways , so you can take a feed from a studio, sound quality is as good you'll as you can get, on most you can plug in a receiver pack, have four channels of audio with low cut and limiters . They are expensive but they will work and will keep on working.
