We show you how to specifically run a water inlet valve test on this Kitchenaid refrigerator, which is also a Whirlpool refrigerator, since Whirlpool makes fridges for most of the major appliance manufacturers. So if your water dispenser is broken, you need to follow our tips here on your Kitchenaid fridge and get your fridge water dispenser working once more.
In this video we also show you how to perform a water inlet valve test, before you consider a water inlet valve replacement when your water dispenser is not working in your Kitchenaid refrigerator. this will help you confirm if this is the root cause of a water dispenser broken and not dispensing water.
Fridge water dispenser not working
If your water inlet valve has stopped working and now your fridge water dispenser is not working even after a filter change, then it's time for a new water inlet valve. A water inlet valve replacement is highly recommended, do not get cheap and try to rebuild the water inlet valve, they often fail soon after you repair the water inlet valve. - Навчання та стиль

My GF just bought a new fridge. When we went to install water line (which she has never used for 20 years), no water comes out of the valve. Do plumbers/contractors ever install a secondary shut off maybe under the house?
Thank you Jeff! Your video was a money and time saver! Our water in the reservoir was frozen. Your video helped us fix it in minutes! Thanks you, again!
What an excellent video! I haven't tackled the project yet but I am now armed with the knowledge that I need. I loved your 5 point presentation describing the possible causes and I just replaced the filter about a month ago so I know that isn't it. I'm guessing the solenoid connection, but I will check the others. Thanks!
After watching this video I used the hair dryer for 3 minutes inside the fridge and the water worked!!! Yea!! Thanks so much as the water has stopped for than once and then came back on...now I know what to do it it happens again! Great video with 5 ideas for why water might not be flowing! Simple FIX!!!
It worked!! Even though the filter was just two months old, replacing it fixed the problem of no water coming through. The explanation was clear and I started instructions in the order given. The simplest one worked. Thank you for your service.
Glad it helped Samuel!
This just helped me fix my frig. I really appreciate your walking through this! My water line was frozen. Thank you !
Has your fridge ever stopped dispensing water? Let us know what you did to fix it in the comments below.
You only listed 4 reasons
I take it back
Wouldn't unplugging the fridge to allow the reservoir to thaw out on its own? I have a Samsung and the reservoir is not so obvious to see to aim a hair dryer at...
I can't thank you enough! I tested my line just before the door and had no water, but had water through the filter just before the solenoid. Metering the solenoid showed 360 and 180ohms so I pulled the water line and sure enough had water directly out of it. The water line from the back to the front was getting pinched under the fridge!
You only get handy, but trying to be and finding mentors along the way. Thank you!
Love this!!! The hairdryer trick worked like a charm. Thank you so much for what you do!!!
This man is legit. This video helped me diagnose and fix the water dispenser on my side by side Frigidaire. It was the water valve. Thank you!!
Awesome, glad to help solve your water dispenser problem
Jeff, you’re amazing!!! Thank you!! Had no idea the water reservoir (and tubing) was behind the crisper! I was ready to pay a service call, thinking it was something serious!! Thank YOU!!!
Although our Kitchenaid Architect II refrigerator is different than the one in your video, your suggestion on how to repair a frozen water dispenser worked wonderfully well! I removed both crisper drawers, then ran my hair dryer over the water tubing (ours was built with an enormous amount of tubing) for a few minutes. I heard the water dispenser click and, sure enough, water came out! I can't thank you enough!
Could you see ice ? I can't . But I'm going to give it a try I also have a lot of tubing and it's small tubing .
You saved me $$$$$$. All needed was a hair dryer. I would never have figured it out without you…..thanks so much
Thanks Jeff for taking the time to show us how to fix this issue..great camera work too!!!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
Jeff! You’re a lifesaver. Never knew the water reservoir tubes were behind the crisper . Was frozen but not now! Thank you.

That was my problem…..I wouldn’t have known without this very clear video
Same issue here.....just fixed it! Thank you!

Thank you Jeff! Very helpful. Ordered the part and replaced it. All is well. Wouldn’t have tackled this myself without your help.

Your reaction at the beginning when no water came out was nowhere near vulgar enough :)
The hairdryer thing totally worked, btw!
Thanks
Oh wow! Glad to help out another one! Been getting a lot of people reporting the hair dryer trick worked. Too bad our's was a lot more work to do changing the filter head in another video.
Finally a good walk through of the issues. Solid video

Thanks for doing this. Frozen water reservoir was the problem. Saved me a bunch of money!
I just want to say THANK YOU for helping me fix the problem. We thought it was the Water inlet valve, but yeah still no water after changing it out. We did not however know about the jug thing in the back of the fridge..... Well, that was it. Took my hair dryer to it for less than 3 minutes and bam we had water. Thanks so much for posting this video you're a real life saver. Keep up the great videos.
Hair dryer is now part of my DIY tool bag - thank you so much!! Frozen reservoir was my problem. I will look for you the next time I have a fix-it issue!!

Hairdryer ftw! Thanks!
Like most of the others is was a frozen reservoir. Never would have thought of that. Thank you!
Awesome, glad to hear you fixed it Bobby! In my fridge, unlucky me it was the expensive and pain in the butt fix. I had to replace the filter head and hose assembly, $65 part.

It was the frozen reservoir all along !!! Caused by being away on vacation for a week. The hair dryer did the trick. Many thanks !
OMG!! Fixed on the first suggestion! So thankful! It was the water filter inserted incorrectly.
Glad it helped!
Thanks soooooo much. Mine turned out to be frozen. You saved me a bunch of time!
Very nice, I appreciate your work and video. Thanks a lot.

Awesome!!! The hair dryer trick worked like a charm. Thank you!!!
Glad it helped!
Thank you great video
An added advice is to make sure the temperature of the fridge isn’t above what’s recommended.
As well after warming up the water reservoir place a foam , type of insulation, behind the reservoir to prevent it from freezing up again.
Dude I love you man!!!!! It was a frozen line. Thanks so much!!!
Glad I could help Patrick! Glad to hear you solved it!
Hair dryer worked for me! Thanks so much

Glad it helped lots of others reporting that it helped!
Thank you for putting the video on here. I had an issue with no water coming out! Used a hair dryer for 5 mins over the water storage unit inside the fridge. Water is working fine now, thank you👌🏻
Glad it helped Adam! Numerous people are reporting that our hair dryer trick worked for them too! Glad it wa snot your $70 water inlet valve.
Thank you.
I can't believe you actually had me blow-drying my fridge. But I really can't believe it actually worked!
Thanks!
FYI, my reservoir was inside a little door under my veggie drawers when I pulled them out. And I had a single outlet water valve, so this fixed my water and ice!
Fantastic!
Worked for me too!
I got out the hair dryer, put it on high, and glided it back and forth across the "hidden" reservoir for less than 3 minutes. The water dispenser immediately worked perfectly again ... on my first try!
Thanks for the video and instructions on how to fix. Your solution was not included in the Kithenaid manual.
Great video my friend. Very straight forward and extremely beneficial. It solved my problem. Thanks very much!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
Jeff, very helpful. We have a GSS25LSTASS GE Side by side. The reservoir was frozen, and the set point was 34F. Adjusted the setpoint to 38F, thawed the reservoir. At the same time, noticed that the solenoid that controlled the ice flap door was rusted. We had observed that when the water or ice button was pushed, the display went blank. Removed the solenoid, verified that it was not open circuit, and then removed the solenoid plunger, sanded it lightly and now we have both water and ice!!! Thanks!
Frozen water line yup hair dryer trick worked perfect, saved me a lot of money you’re the man
Jeffostroff I liked your video very much, excellent job, I will try to fix my fridge soon. Thank you
Glad it helped let us know if you are successful
Jeff, we followed your video instructions and are not screwed!
In the end, it was a frozen water line but that issue wasn’t immediately apparent. We took the hair dryer to the door and, with still no water, looked at the water inlet valve. After ordering a new valve on line ($100!) we pushed the fridge back against the wall which I think jostled loose the frozen bits in the line. After getting it back in place we decided to give the water dispenser more Hail Mary press and we had water! Needless to say we are returning the inlet valve once it arrives. Thanks for your video.
Awesome
Thanks Jeff your check is in the mail !!!😆👌🏼
After checking filter, clogged water line all of which were fine, then I used hair dryer on water reservoir. Bingo!! Now we have water in door!! Thank you soo much!! You were a life saver
Thank you so much. Our water was frozen and the hair dryer worked perfectly! Thank you sir
Thanks! This one helped me! Mine was kind of #4. I went to look at the valve and found it had somehow come unplugged. The refrigerator came with the house, and it had never worked. Your video and 30 min of troubleshooting and it was working!
Awesome Doug, glad to hear you solved it. Those valves can be $70 if you have to replace. Previous owner would be upset to know that's all it was!
love this video going to try this for my water....we are sure it's frozen....what a lifesaver of a video thanks for making this....😊👍
Thanks Sir for the good Video...I have the same or very similar fridge my water started freezing then stopped. Items in the fridge are frozen as well an ideas. The filter is almost new..Thanks Rob

After watching this, I realized it could be that the water filter wasn’t put in right. I took it out and put it back in, and voila! The water dispenser is working! Thank you.

Great news rocky, congrats
Thanks for the video! Finally figured out my issue after trying so much and looking at all the videos of yours. You set me on the path lol. Our previous condo owner had installed a leak safety hose and when I changed the filter it set it off. That was the issue. Just needed to reconnect to reset the hose switch thing. You should add this if you ever update the video.
Great to hear!
This totally fixed my issue! The water in the line was frozen and the blow dryer tip worked. My fridge was a GE, but still solved the problem. Thanks!
Excellent!
Thank you helping to check register.. My refrigerator has an issue that contact between water filter and water contractor. It somehow doesn’t go all the way in. Great trouble shooting. Thank you again !
Thank you Jeff! The hairdryer did that trick.

Thank you. Never knew the water reservoir tubes were behind the crisper . Was frozen but not now! Thank you.
Glad to help Paul!
Thanks
Thank you sir
Yes Jeff you're a lifesaver I was getting zero water out of my water for my fridge I went on Frigidaire to find a manual when I typed in my model number toasters came up so my biggest problem was those two little plastic tips you have to push in so I took the airline and the wife blew it out I pushed the plastic tips I heated up the inside of the fridge to thaw my water reservoir then I blew backwards through my water reservoir the wife caught all the water then I took a large syringe and I pumped in a couple of syringe's full of vinegar in the line that feeds everything right from my RO machine I don't have a filter because I use an RO machine. You were a lifesaver now my wife and I can quit fighting for a little while.
great video, thanks!
You're welcome!
I have a maytag, same setup you have in video. The water Reservoir was frozen. The hair dryer trick worked.
Thanks so much!
The hair dryer trick worked for me. 😊
I'm so glad!

Glad I could help!
Super helpful!
Glad it was helpful Andrea
Thank jeff this video really help's to fix my problem
Way to go Nelson! Which fix worked for you?
Thanks Jeff you fixed my ice box, water dispenser!
What was the cause of your problem?
Thank you so much! The hairdryer did the trick and we now have water again!
Glad I could help! Wish my own fridge had been that easy, I had to change out the filter head
Thank you so much for all the info. I was able to fix my fridge and avoid the expensive of a tech. We first checked the water lines in the back which seemed fine. I then replaced my filter thinking it was clogged or just old cuz I'm sure it was overdue. The water was still not dispensing. My daughter had mentioned the soda was frozen this morning so I tried the hairdryer technique and I got some flow but was still not normal. So I pulled the fridge back out and it seems when my husband checked the lines he also kinked the line. We had 2 issues, original issue frozen water reservoir, ours being a coiled line in behind the veggie drawer, and then a kinked hose. Lol Thanks again!
That's why I hate copper lines, those 1/4" lines kink so easily
#3 fixed mine. The water reservoir was frozen and 5 minutes with a hair dryer did the trick. Turns out, someone left my fridge open all night so it must have been cranking cold air over night and froze it. Thanks Jeff!
Thanks for sharing
My issue were the two white dots. I pushed them in with a pen and received a blast of cold water to the face!! We don’t have a water filter installed so I just put back on the bypass cap and voila. It works again! Thanks for the video
Yes! Thank you for your comment! I first tried the blow dryer and it didn’t work. But I read your comment. So I took a pencil and pushed in the dot and got sprayed in the face too 😂
So right then I knew that there was running water getting to the filtration unit. So I pushed in a second time just to get more in, and then I twisted the filter much more this time. My wife always has an issue with how much I twist things and asked me not to do it again… well… once I twisted it enough I could hear the air release from the filter and knew I was in business!
Thank YOU for the comment and thank the man that posted this video for getting me on track!
Just did the blow dryer trick and it worked thanks 👍🏽
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
I have not changed my filer since I purchased the refrigerator. I will try that first!
Wow! Once you find one that fits and works good, buy extras. We change them every 6 months to a year
Thanks for the walkthrough, same fridge so that was nice! Frozen reservoir was the culprit for me as well. Super helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video brother! Great help! And great camera work from your son too!
Thank you James
Thank you so much!! The hairdryer did the trick for me too : )
