After only watching the first part of this video, I jumped up and ran to my refrigerator. We haven't had filtered water for several weeks. I opened the door and covered the inside food with a towel to keep it cold inside. I grabbed a hairdryer and only used it for less than five minutes before I tried the water. It worked and water was coming out at a regular rate!! You saved us from buying a new refrigerator!!! It was either that or a service call. This refrigerator wasn't worth the cost of a service call. You are the MAN!!! Thank You!!

I just want to thank you guys who are selflessly put up videos like this which allowed me to be able to fix my fridge and not dread that since one thing broke the rest of the fridge will go. (hair dryer works same as a heat gun) Thank you!

Using this advice I solved a neighbor's problem.. Didn't realize these refrigerators have an in-door freeze issue. Do the water line check first to eliminate any possibility of control valve failure.. I used a hand held hair dryer and a 4 foot length of trimmer string (.095 inches or 2.41 mm bright yellow color) to probe for how far up (inside the door panel) to feel for blockage. I believe the trimmer string extended all the way to the outlet port on the door. Using the trimmer string while directing hot air through a small funnel into the water line (with the freezer door open) throughout... I managed to estimate that the trimmer line was slowly moving into/through the blockage. At the very end of the process (before water flow was restored I probed the water outlet to the water dispenser, and after a small amount of effort managed to push through the ice blockage at the water outlet and push to remaining ice plug down to the under refrigerator connector. Not a large amount of ice but a little is enough to cause the associated headache.

The trimmer line tip is a pro move, because a heat gun wasn't doing anything for me. My ice blockage also was very close to the dispenser since I got at least five feet of trimmer line inside

2024 here: how long was it before you noticed the trimmer string moving? How long did the whole process take?

    • @joepieczonka7620
      @joepieczonka7620 Місяць тому +1

@@cgstadler Only several minutes, I think this problem occurs when the refrigerator sits idle for several hours (as when both people work) or leave the house over a long week end. Friends who had this problem have since sold and moved away.

It took me two ten minute cycles with the hairdryer to melt the ice and allow the water flow to return. During the second ten minute cycle, I left the freezer door open to warm the entire tubing running inside the door. I almost gave up , and then suddenly, a small chunk of ice came out and the water flow returned. Thank you for helping me fix my fridge and remember everyone, don’t give up too soon!

Thanks for posting this comment. After 2 cycles of using the hairdryer, I almost gave up, but I re-read this comment, gave it one more try, and an ice chunk flew out of the line and cleared it.

I was quoted a $99 Service call fee + Labor + Parts in order to have someone come & look into why my water dispenser had stopped working. I was resigned to just go without until I decided to search UA-cam & found this video. IT WORKED!!!! My only regret is that your company isn't local. You'd have a customer for life!! Thanks!

We set the temperature in the refrigerator colder because of Hurricane Ian, then a couple of days later, no flow from water dispenser. It turned out that the water filter was frozen. Unscrewed the filter, ran hot water over it and now flowing well. Moral of the story- reset the temperature of the refrigerator back to its normal setting after the hurricane passes. Your video was extremely helpful and explanations were clear. THANK YOU.

I watched the video and was preparing to try the fix in the morning. I happened to turn on the light in the dispenser area and left it on for 30 minutes. Came back and low and behold, the water line was working! The heat from the light was enough to thaw the ice in the line. Easiest fix ever! Good video, thanks.

Thanks for this video. I would like to echo the previous comments. After about 10 minutes with the wife's blow dryer a small puddle of water came out of the plastic tube and I had water flowing again. The hardest part of the whole repair was getting that darn toe kick trim piece back on!

I would like to share that your video saved me hours of troubleshooting. I found my 2 year old son had messed with buttons and lowered the temperatures in both my freezer and fridge! Rotten child...ha Took some time to thaw out a little, but it all came back. Saved big bucks on parts and service. Plus my wife thinks I did it all by myself so guess who's getting lucky tonight! ha

I used a blow dryer (on low heat setting) and held a small funnel against the end of water line and blew into the large end of the funnel for approximately 2 minutes. I also left the freezer door open for about 12 minutes. Problem solved! I ruined a plastic funnel with the heat, but well worth it. Thank you very much for the video!

I happened to be prepping for some painting and had a box of precut plastic sheets laying out. So I propped my door open and taped a plastic “curtain” over the freezer to retain the cold and protect my food. I had to leave my freezer open for about an hour, but didn’t lose much temp. Thank you for the easy-to-follow directions!

I can't thank you enough for posting this video. I found it AFTER two other failed attempts and, of course, your solution was so straight forward - a frozen tube!
For others trying to troubleshoot, I mistakenly replaced a perfectly good pump/switch mechanism on the back of the fridge. I was also getting ice but no water and a paid technician thought it the part in the back rather than the simple test shown in this video based on the symptom section.

This all worked wonderful. When I took the coupler off, I had an issue with water coming out after re-attaching. I later realized that I needed to trim part of the hose as it became “uneven”. After that, no leaking and the water came out of the door as intended. Thanks for saving me a lot of stress with the tutorial on what the problem might be, how to get at the issue and how to fix it.

This worked! Thank you for posting this video. I used a hair dryer on the hottest setting and left the freezer door open at the same time for about 15 minutes. A little water dribbled out of the line and that is when I knew that the ice in the line must have thawed. The only note that I would add is that the bottom guard of my refrigerator was attached with 2 screws (not snap in). Just check if you have trouble removing the guard.

Thanks for posting this great video. I had just changed my water filter and suddenly water wasn't dispensing. I was sure it was related to the filter, but followed this video to confirm that water actually was flowing through it. I did 2 cycles of blasting a hair dryer through the line with the freezer door open and almost gave up. I tried a third time and an ice chunk flew out and cleared the line. Thanks again for this excellent guide.

Yes, it worked for us too!!!
We’ve had our side by side for 11 years and really haven’t had too many problems. So very happy this tip worked. It took about 10 minutes of the hair dryer on the hose and 5 on the door to get the flow back. Thanks so much! It worked! This is exactly what my issue ended up being. Water could get to the valve but not dispense water. It ended up being frozen water in the water line up to the dispenser on the freezer side. Followed the simple instructions and used a hair dryer to send heat up the water line and then down the water line from the water dispenser. Just took a few mins. Be careful to not melt the plastic water line. I also increased the temperature setting to 0 on the freezer in hopes of not having this happen again in the future.

A lot of people here talking about how this fixed their "no water" problem with their GE fridge, and yes, it fixed mine too, (temporarily), but nobody here talking about the root cause that caused the problem in the first place. About 30 minutes after I "fixed" mine with a hair dryer, the problem came back and my water line was frozen again. My temperature control board for my freezer was set to 0°, but the freezer was showing a temperature of -5°. So I needed to figure out what the root cause was for it getting too cold as this really had never happened before. Was it the thermostat? Was it the control board? No, not in my case. What it turned out to be in my case was several packages of meat that I crammed in my freezer a couple weeks prior. My freezer was so over packed that those last 7 or 8 packages of frozen ground beef were at the edge of the freezer shelf, and right up next to the interior wall of the freezer door that housed the exact location of the water line and water/ice dispenser. So what was happening was the freezing temperature of all that rock hard frozen meat so close to the dispenser was causing the line behind the door wall to freeze. When I realized this and moved that frozen meat to other crammed areas of the freezer, my water lines thawed out on their own and the problem never came back again. I know this explanation sounds trivial, but it fixed my issue, and it might just be the root cause of your problem and could fix your issue as well.

Thank you for this, Ace Appliance! My water has not worked for a year and this video helped me greatly. Only needed to thaw the door which you talk about but don't show how to do this without losing the frozen food in the freezer side. I used 4 flattened, corrugated cardboard moving boxes taped to make a 4 ply thickness of cardboard which I taped together. I taped the assembly to seal off the freezer compartment while the freezer door remained open for about an hour and a half. Worked like a charm.

Ok I initially thought I could not do this myself and I was rather sad. Then I read Faith's, Lisa's and Margaret's comments and was like, "wait a minute, let me try!" I got out my ceramic hair dryer and I went to work heating from the top and bottom and along the door and viola, I got my water flowing again! #GirlPower

Thank you so very much. Could not afford to pay for an appliance tech. Followed your video, and yep frozen at the top of the line in the door. The hair dryer did the trick. Now we have flowing water again. We had been away on vacation for about 10 days and left the ice drawer full. This may have contributed to the freeze up of the line. This may help others. I hope so! Again, thank you very much!!!!!

Water stopped dispensing so I tried replacing the water filter which was due for a change anyway. But the new water filter didn't resolve the problem and now I'm thinking about a service call and a repair bill.
I followed your instructions and took a hair dryer and heated the dispenser area for about 3 mins before I noticed a little spurt of water when the ice plugging the line melted. The water dispenser is now back online and it was a simple fix. Thanks for your video!!!

I can't thank you, ApplianceVideo.com, enough for this tutorial. I'm not a handyman and had called several companies to come out to fix this. One was supposed to come out today, but the tech called in sick, so I checked out UA-cam and came across this video. I took a blow dryer to the tube, and actually, at first, it didn't work, and I gave up and put everything back together and was gonna call the repair guy again, but gave water dispenser another try, and it must have taken a little time to defrost further up the tubing, and now, my water dispenser works like normal again. Thanks for saving me a Benjamin Franklin!

Although I have a slightly different model number, it looked exactly as it was shown. Amazing how simple this was, but I would have had no clue where to start. Also learned another tip, stick a piece of weed whacker cord up in the tube, it will help to break up any remaining clog. Now everything works perfectly and cost me nothing. fixed thank you for this video and thanks to some of the comments below I was able to get my water flowing again. about 3 min with the hair dryer and I opened the door for about 10 yesterday I figured out how to fix the ice maker which was probably the culprit for my ice freezing up. Good advice. I used the heat gun on the ice dispenser. Inside and outside. You do have to be careful not to melt the plastic. But it worked like a charm. Didn't know the trick about checking solenoid by disconnecting the water supply on the bottom. That was KEY.

Great video -- thanks! Two things that might help: 1. With the freezer door open look right below the chute where the ice comes out. I glued a piece of styrofoam insulation (looks like a piece of an old styrofoam ice chest) right beneath it to prevent freezing. 2. When the line eventually froze after many years (Why? Who knows!) I took a piece of weed whacker line and feed it up through the water spout all the way down to the bottom of the fridge and that did the trick. All FYI.

Hey It worked. I did as you instructed and checked to see if the problem was in the door and it was. I then used a hair dryer for a short while and a few drops of water came out. I had some flexible thin wire that I use on my remote control planes and pushed in. I could actually feel the ice crystals and a small amount of water came out. I reattached it and it Worked!!. My biggest problem was getting the grill that covers the bottom back on but figured that out as well. Thanks again. Terry

This was a big help! I was actually shopping for a new frig. My GE has had a number of small issues over the years and this was pushing me to think of replacing it. I disconnected the hose in the front and tested the dispenser and it squirted. That was encouraging so I broke out my heat gun that I rarely get to use and after a little top and bottom rotation ;) I eventually got it to squirt. I hope you enjoy your job as much as we enjoy your video.

Awsome short n sweet to the point video for the person like me who knows how to handle most situations. Simple removal of the shark bite. tested for water flow just as he did. removed all the items from the door and began with a hair drier ( heat gun is at my shop) about a minute warming the door pocket. inside of the freeze brought the temp on the door panel up so it wouldn't keep the line froze. Heat to the door side of the hose all the way up the outside of hose to the hinge.. watch for water to flow.. and by god it did. Couple of concentrated mins till water made a good size puddle at the end of the door hose twice. Cross the fingers for luck it was enough. Reconnected and turned the water back on. closed the door and pressed dispenser. Water ...!!! 2 gallon pitchers of water until it felt the same temp as straight from the faucet. Lowered cold number in freezer from 5 -3 and will keep n eye on goods inside. Thanks.

Thank you, 5 minutes and my frozen line was sorted! Just to point out that my GE profile cover plate is held on with two screws so check yours before you try to pull it off.

Tim, you’re awesome! My husband and I watched this video twice and it was exactly as you said! We used a hair dryer for about two minutes and it worked like new! Thanks again🙋🏻
