Several years ago my son took his for an oil change. They left the dipstick partially out and somehow got in the serpentine belt and tore it to shreds. Naturally they wouldn’t do anything about it. I wouldn’t go there if was free now..

Run over to your local automotive tool store. You can purchase a good set of oil filter removal tools. They look like a oversized socket and fit over the filter and come in a variety of sizes to fit the different filters. They have a square hole in the middle to fit a socket wrench. Obtain a long handle breaker bar or ratchet wrench. Another good filter wrench is a strap style that uses a socket wrench or breaker bar. On your next oil change have that tool with you. Then if you encounter another super over tightened filter. Easily slip it on loosing the and your done in 10 minutes. Save yourself the hassle and headache.

My own experience was to clean the oil filter surface, , lube the gasket with some of the drained oil, screw on the filter after you meet resistance tighten 2/3 of a round never had one leak . I have seen this , my air filter left loose, a new Ford Ranger and they pulled the radiator cap(1992) and told me it failed the pressure test, No calibration on the machine.LOL transmission oil pan bolts left loose , lucky on that Ford I did not burn it up coming home. and last the tech pulled the trigger on the oil hose before he had it in the oil fill hole. Oiled the outside of my engine . I only go to dealerships now. for many many years. Quick lubes ruin more trannys and engines than you can count.

I have a 2017 Sil;verado LTZ with the 5.3. Because it's direct injected, I put an oil catch can on it. Every month I dump about a shot glass of blow-by oil from that can. The hoses from the catch can help stabilize the funnel when I refill the crank case. I love the menu on my Silverado; you just toggle straight down to get where you want to go. Some other vehicles, you have to go down and toggle left or right. We actually had a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk where you had to step on the gas pedal a couple of time to re-set the friggin oil life gage!

Over tightening is a big problem with some places. Last fall I had some new tires put on my truck. And later decided to check my brakes myself. Literally couldn’t believe how tight they had gotten the lug nuts. If I had not been able to jar them loose with a 2lb. Sledge hammer. .good that I didn’t have a flat in the middle of nowhere.👍

I wouldn’t say it was Valvolen specifically. I would however say this is a problem with almost any shop that specializes in oil changes. I’ve had them put antifreeze in my wipe fluid and strip out the drain plug. On top of that most of them won’t use the oil required with decos 1 and will cause engine issues in these newer vehicles. Even if they say they are using it.

Back in the 90's my cousin took her Ford SUV to a quick change for oil change. That car actually had a drain plug in the trans pan. Sooooo after they got done needles to say she made it about 2 miles up the road & the car quit. After having it towed, they realized the quick change drained the transmission fluid & then put engine oil in. So it has Zero trans fluid & twice the engine oil !!
She took them to court but it was close to 2 yrs before they finally paid up ! In mean time she had to buy another car to get to work & was still paying for the messed up one.
I WILL NEVER use a quick change place nor will i use Walmart. I've heard horror stories from them too.

Eqsy to do on the drive type of job. Nothing complicated, even the quick places should be doing it right and very quickly given the frequency they do the job, the fact they mess it up is nuts to me!! 0w-20 for the ambient temperature you have there seems liggt, we use 5w-30 here in Ireland and no issues, given summer is 20deg C! At least you got it sorted. All the best from Ireland 🇮🇪

I have had the Caddy dealership mess up on my XT5 oil change. First time I did the oil change myself and….Drain plug on way too tight and when I got it off noted the built in gasket on the plug was missing. Not stuck on the pan. Screened the oil from the drain pan into a clean container…..no gasket. No doubt that gasket was missing for who knows how long. Went to the local Chevy dealer and picked up a new drain plug. The parts guy was stunned that it hadn’t leaked. Oh, and the filter? Took a bit of time with the oil filter wrench to get it loosened. Have not been back to the Caddy dealer since. That wasn’t the only problem I have found with their work.
